My little dot MKVI+ used to operate anywhere between 5mA-100mA+ bias current thanks to the Chinesium grade resistors in mine. Gutted all chinese junk parts and replaced with Mills brand for power and Yageo 1/2W 1% resistors. ROCK SOLID now. Such a wonderful sounding headphone amplifier when working.
Justice League you have one I take it? The culprit in my amplifier was the stupid little 1/4 watt 300 ohm resistors. You heat them with a hot air pencil, mine would drop down to almost 240 ohms. Replaced with quality 1% and now bias is rock stable. Yageo 1/2 watt 1% from digikey. Parts with quality standards. I still have an issue with the left channel dropping out at times, where I have to “flick” the volume up quickly to restore audio. Still working on that one.
Yes, very nice. I need to ask you, My source is an 8 to 10 yr. old Pioneer blu ray player with an HDMI conection to a Pioneer 7.1 or 7.2 reciever, also 8 to 10 yrs. old. CD's are ok, probably not the best.As you might remember the DV336se is on the way & I'll be using hd600's. Do you think my source is ok? Good? Should try to get a turntable & vinyl's? Or what? If & when you get time I'll await your answer. I will probably move up to the hd800's later depending on your answer. Your advice, ect. still rings true. I can see much more clearly now when watching & listening to some of these other (audiophile's). Greatly appreciated & thanks again. Grady.
Sorry I don't know much about those equiptments- But here's from someone that does and this is what he advice/ "The old blu ray will have older dac technology, and that seems to be where the evolution takes place. Amps last forever, DACs are always changing. As for vinyl, you can never go wrong. I run an older dual turntable into a preamp into my Metrum Musette into a Wells Milo amp. I love the sound of vinyl. It is basically the sound every dac is trying to get to. Your set up is fine, it just depends on what you are after. HD600s are fantastic, and will be much less source dependent than the HD800s. But, as Justice League so accurately expressed, pair them right and the sound is unparalleled. As for your system, I would upgrade the DAC first. If you want to go the vinyl route, spend your money on the cartridge. The preamp isn't the most important piece, you can get a good one for $100. Update a piece and listen. And then again until you find the right combo for you. To me, a turntable into a decent preamp, Chord 2Qute would be my start. You will then know if you need to upgrade the receiver to a better one or a better amp." Geoffrey Alter
Thank you very much. That's valuable information for one who doesn't know. And I don;t know. Now I do.I received the DV336se and have been enjoying it with my hd600's But am now in the process of trying to find much better tubes from a great list you provided.I could go on and on. YOUR INFO IS THE F...... BEST! After this little deal, I might get a little more expensive amp, in the neighborhood of $500.00. I hear a lot about the bottlehead crack. Do you have one? I would have to buy one from the company already assembled, I think they are about $500.00. Would be ok with me. Your opinion of the crack is very important though. Is it that much better than my DV336se? Especially since I will find better tubes from your list. Thanks again to Justice League and Geoffrey Alter for the unparraled help.
What are the power tubes you are using, and did you need to mod it to take them? Also, I'm talking from experience here, get rid of those cheap dampers. Invest in some from Heroes. Those red ones aren't designed for this and you are likely doing damage to your sound. Cool vid though. Cheers.
can I ask any harsh treble or thin sound from both Hd 800 .. how do you compare the tube amp to solid amp ? which one you prefer and why ? last what do you think of microrendu ,,is it improving the sound a lot as many said ?
The treble on the Hd800 is a bit harsh at times but not to the point that it's annoying. When pair with the tube amp it calm the highs quite a bit. Tube amp is good on genre's with lots of vocal's and guitars, while the solid state provides a much cleaner and accurate sounds. Both have their good and bad. The MicroRendu indeed improves the sound quality quite a bit. But it is very sensitive to the power you feed it. The better the power supply the more you get out of it.
Great set-up!
Would you kindly list the modifications you did, including the tubes?
Thanks!

Which parts did you gut out? Also what was the expense after all the mods upgrade? And where did you get it from? Please share.
