Thank you for watching my video on Florida's geography problems. I hope you notice the improved video and graphic design here, along with added quality controls of course. Because I realize quality is everything when (mostly) covering the cities and states that makeup the world's most powerful nation.
Yeah I really noticed the upgrade. Nice job. Personally I think you mightve sped up the editing a bit to much in places but overall it really is a big improvement
@@Dontreadthis0 thank you so much, yeah I need to chill out on the speed ramp a bit I think.
Do you have any ideas for a video centered on Arizona like this?
Thank you
@@ANXIETYS_BIG_YAWN_OFFICIAL Actually I do, I plan on doing an entire video on the depletion of the Colorado River. Something that arguably affects Arizona more than any other state. I have done so much research on how Arizona is becoming the U.S. capitol for microchip manufacturing, and an increasingly popular alternative to Silicon Valley. But I also find the state's rise, which coincided with the invent of air conditioning very interesting. So it may take a bit of time, but you will see a video that covers Arizona on this channel sooner rather than latter.
As a Miami resident he forgot to mention that Florida is the only state where alligators get to choose which neighborhood pool they'll go for a swim!
Your right about that. I am from n.c. and I told my dad you can have this entire state. Mike has left on a comfortable 747.

The biggest concern should be that no insurance companies will touch Florida property in the not-too-distant future. If the public understood that all the doomsday climate change scenarios calculated to occur in "100 years or more" are now seeing those doomsday scenarios are already starting and few if anyone will be living in Florida by 2060.
In Florida, the further North you go, the further South you are.

You guys should stop slapping videos together if you're not going to verify your data!!
1) Florida is not running out of water, it's natural aquifer has one of the largest reserves of freshwater in the world.
2) Disney is not the biggest employer in the state, Publix has 3 times the employees Disney has in Florida!
3) Florida's clean air is ranked 7th in the nation
4) Florida's building codes are some of the strongest in America, buildings must be built to endure 150MPH sustained hurricane winds since 1991. If you're referring to the condo collapse in 2021, it had nothing to do with building codes, it had to do with terrible maintenance, allowing water leaks to erode the foundation, a greedy HOA and an incompetent or corrupt building inspector hire by a small town.
Good points.
@Michael Falciglia......but medical care in Florida is ranked #36 in the country. i was truly disappointed when I moved here from Colorado.....which was ranked at #12.......
@@urbanurchin5930 My post is not about defending Florida, it's about rampant misinformation in RUclips videos that portray themselves as being knowledgeable or experts on subjects or matters, when they are completely making up a story as they go along.
I have expertise on Florida having lived here since I was 3 in the mid-1970s, so I commented on the points I knew he was 100% wrong on and I verified my information before I wrote the comment/rebuttal.
I've commented on hundreds of videos unrelated to Florida that I have knowledge of, not just guesses, but I have source information.
For example, people constantly cut clips and voice over video clips with completely made up stories about domestic and wild animals. When I know the true story and I hear them lie, I reply with the truth.
@Foghorn Leghorn Thank You Sir! Keep up the good fight!
"Greedy HOA" might be retitled "cheap-ass homeowners." the BOD was aware of the situation and tried to address it, but any attempts to raise money through special assessments or increased regime fees were voted down. the BOD there quit over these issues as i understand it.
I grew up in south Florida and left the state over 20 years ago. Each time I go back to visit family, I do notice the growth expansion in areas that were once swampland, farms or cattle ranches. I’m always amazed at the change but the population has grown so much that going anywhere that was once mins, now would take longer because of traffic. I notice the high cost of renting and buying and my hats off to those who do what they must to make ends meet. I do not see myself moving back and I’m glad I had the opportunity to leave then for school and opportunities to travel to other states for work. There are other parts of the US that I love that now Fla is only for visiting family.
Did you move to North Carolina Floridains love to move here.
That is true in virtually all US cities where growth has ballooned. I see it in So. Cal, NYC, No. & SE VA, and the NE.

Florida also has one other problem not mentioned in this video: Sinkholes. A few of these have taken the lives of unfortunate people as well as their property.
Which happens about once every twenty weeks
Sublimation. As sea levels rise. It will tick up pace.
I have been living here for 50 and just got done filling in a sink hole in my yard...thankfully it was a good distance from the house...my homeowners insurance increased 150% and they no longer cover sink holes..
@FoghornLeghorn-mc7lv
Not long from now. My friend lives south of Florida and just moved off the sinking island he was on. It used to be above ground by 2-4 feet depending on where you are in the island. Last year it’s barely above 1 foot at it’s highest point. The entire foundation and house sits about 8 inches under water. It’s above the foundation and gets worse by the day.
I used to live in central Florida. Sinkholes happen when the water table is depleted. The limestone underneath the state is easily dissolved, and the water table is inches to feet below the grass. Cavities form, leaving only a thin crust above the caves; the water (which is nearly the only thing holding up the surface) falls away and the earth collapses. I read a terrible news story several years ago about a man who had moved in with his brother, and he woke up one morning to find a sinkhole had swallowed his bedroom. The other family members got out, but they were forced to stand there hopelessly while the ground continued to swallow their brother and half their home.
It's not just drought that causes the water table to drop; it's also overpopulation and failure to control water use. When there's plenty of land but not enough resources to support people, it's still overpopulation, even if they keep building new houses.
As a Florida resident for nearly ten years now, it is a beautiful place with great job opportunities, stunning nature, and endless things to do. That being said, it has grown at such a dramatic rate that the average person struggles to pay housing costs. Most everyone I know either cannot afford to live without a room mate/several income streams. Everything has sky rocketed in price, and the infrastructure in central Florida is lagging behind its growth, which is very cumbersome.
As a Florida resident since 1993 I approve your comment / opinion 👍🌴🌴on top of that hostility is everywhere ….
Florida has always been one of my favorite places to visit, so I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm for the state. It also has a very unique culture, that I can hopefully address in a future video, as it's so much more than just the elderly and tourist. The growth there has been so exponential over the past decade that many people forget that it's also been one of the fastest growing states (since pretty much always).
Florida may not be a tiny state, but in terms of actual usable land, I feel like its on the smaller side
I just did some basic math and the Everglades alone take-up approximately 12% of the state's landmass. So I agree that the usable portion of Florida is much smaller than many people would think. Also keep in mind that the Everglades area has already been reduced by more than 50%.
Floridistan, is a Fascist state and the politicians (DiSantis, Scott, Rubio, Gaetz and a handful of other mini-Fascists) are worthless anti Democratic criminals. They will not be getting my GAY dollars ever again.
“a Sunny State for Shady people “ is how a friend of mine who lived in Florida described it! I still laugh when I hear that description!! 😃

The State makes up the lack of State income taxes via high property taxes.
Sales tax, especially from tourists bolster floridas revenue stream. We’ve had several “tax holidays” this summer due to high revenues from tourists returning after COVID.
Property taxes aren’t that high in Florida really; and millage caps in many counties limit any increase; so stay in your home for a while and property taxes get lower that a new buyer.
@fldon2306 TX property taxes are insane. While paying $4k in home State, same price home in Dallas area would've cost $10k. Didn't move to Tx. Can see how tourists $ would matter in Fla., but associate there pays half again more in property taxes for their similarly priced home. Point being, just because they've no State tax, doesn't mean they're not getting your money.
My New Jersey property taxes are much higher than Florida. I am glad to pay Florida property tax, fells like a discount.
What is your property tax? I come from California and living here I’ve heard others complain about cost and when comparing, they’re complaint about a drop in the bucket to what they could
Be stuck with if they lived in commiefornia
Why blame the state? I moved from coastal south Florida to interior north Florida far from the coast. Property is much cheaper and taxes are much less. More like Georgia than like the Dominican Republic up here though.
While out-of-staters were flocking into Florida in 2021, 674,740 residents moved out. That's more than the total number of people that left California or New York that year. Those who moved out previously told Insider the state had become too unaffordable and crowded.

I agree. Been here over 35 years, the changes in population are alarming in many ways. Not just quantity, quality.
Every sucker has been predicting Sunshine State downfall since I moved down here 30 years ago and counting…
Specially the Dumbocrats
Same here.
Forty or fifty years ago it used to be a nice laid back rural place. These days it is way too crowded.
I've lived in KS,CA, NM, & FL and worked in others. They all have unique problems- the biggest is over population and misuse of the land and water.
I would argue that NM and KS have somewhat opposite problems from CA ans FL. But I agree that every US city and state has its own set of unique (but sometimes similar problems).
An oversized sandbar with a swamp in the middle doesn't give anybody a sense of stability when everything is moving with too much water, too many storms and too many floods. Florida doesn't provide much in the way of security or home insurance at a reasonable cost/
KS and NM are far from over populated, probably under populated. Top 10 most populous are NY, CALI, TEX, PENN, FL, GA, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina
Also lived in KS for a long time, FL for several now. Ironically I can say KC is similarly transient now and nothing homey about it like it was when I grew up.
I feel the same way about Florida (Miami) that I feel about New Orleans. It's a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to have to live there.
You can keep it, too humid and sinkholes, oh yes one road to get out in danger of hurricanes, you can keep it.
Both Florida and Louisiana are too low laying and too vulnerable to violent storms and massive flooding. Both states are too flat and featureless. Also their venomous wildlife you have to watch out.

Ice caps are also melting and hurricanes/ storms are contributing to the destruction of low-lying coastal areas. It has been predicted that sea levels could rise as much as eight feet by 2100.
The Highway 27 corridor from Sebring up through Leesburg and into the panhandle is still a little bit like the place I grew up. I'm a 5th generation Florida native. My Father's side of the family settled in Manatee County in 1868. My Dad, my grandfather, my great grandfather, and my great great grandfather were all life long residents of Manatee County and are buried in The Palmetto Florida cemetery off of 10th Street.
There is a reason so many people are still moving to Florida. Problems are always relative. Most of Florida’s significant problems stem from its success fueling population growth. Perhaps, other State’s problems exceed that of Florida? I live in FL. I travel the country as well. Florida is still a top destination for a reason.
Good points!
That’s because people are stupid and shortsighted. Somebody should tell them the southern half of the state will be underwater in the not so distant future.
I live here, too. Its beauty is unmatched.
But the former governor refused to acknowledge climate change, going so far as to forbid his staff from even mentioning it. And flooding, hurricane damage, water shortages and heat are making it increasingly difficult to live here, with insurance becoming unaffordable for all except the wealthy.
Lmao you sound like you didn’t watch the video. The shady infrastructure and allowing miami to be what it is today will eventually destroy miami, the economic epicenter of the state. The lack of acknowledgment of climate change, sink holes, hurricanes, storms, buildings getting built on swamps, etc. is going to eventually (not immediately) destroy the state
@@ThruAWiderLens so, Gov Scott “acknowledging” climate change would have changed the outcome? Regardless of the validity of climate change theory, greenhouse gasses and every other input, natural and man made, is a global issue. A Governor, a Senator etc… even single world leader can not manage it. Throw in the obvious corruption built up around the issue, good luck solving anything.
I grew up in the Midwest, but have lived in central Florida for 25 years now. Honestly, as climate and terrain go, the Pacific Northwest is much more ideal for me. But I’ve lived here for so long now that even with any drawbacks, it would be incredibly hard for me to leave. During the summers when it’s oppressively hot and humid, we have daily violent thunderstorms, and there’s always a possibility of an occasional hurricane, I’d much rather be elsewhere. But then you get to the good months when there aren’t those things, it’s beautiful and comfortable, and it’s freezing almost every other place in the country, and it’s wonderful. Florida might not quite have the cultural offerings as say NYC, but it still has some. And even though it has the oldest continually inhabited city in the U.S. in St. Augustine, it always feels like it has a very short history compared to many other areas like the northeast or Midwest. But again, if you look, there is history too. We’re the butt of many jokes and controversies, but I think part of that is simply our huge population. Anywhere where there are lots of people, simply by the numbers you’ll have more of those things too. But my point is that nowhere is perfect. The west has wildfires, earthquakes, overpopulation, and high prices. The Midwest and northeast can be freezing for what feels like half the year, can also be pricey in specific areas, and have areas of huge decline like the rust belt. The plains states don’t have a whole lot to offer, can have tornadoes, and can be very boring and sparse. Areas of the Deep South like Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisiana have a lot of poverty and low opportunity. Even Alaska and Hawaii are extremely isolated. But ALL of those areas, just like Florida, do have their positives. I suspect that someday, I will end up moving from Florida, but I don’t know. In just the 25 years that I’ve been a resident, I’ve seen a big shift from it just being sort of a state of transient residents, to many people like myself living here for decades, and raising families. And our industry has grown tremendously from just being tourism and agriculture like the old days. Infrastructure, despite some unfortunate displacement of wildlife, has also improved a lot. But your home is what you make of it, and you can focus on the negatives, or choose to focus on the positives. I choose the latter.
Short in American history, but in terms of the Spaniards and Native Americans it's long in history.
Love this perspective!
Very well spoken I agree with you 100% nothing is perfect everywhere there is something. It is what we make out of it 👏👏👏
Great comment! To me the worst thing about Florida is the heat it was 90 in January this year but a few nice days here and there late on and another big problem is overcrowding way too much traffic and can't get doctor's appointments Healthcare is the worst here and car and home insurance is off the charts. I loved it here when I was younger and did watersports but now I would way rather live in a place like Tennessee or North Carolina any place with seasons but not too harsh of a Long Winter. Unfortunately I'm stuck in Florida because I'm an old tree that's too rooted here to be transplanted someplace else

FLORIDA WAS GREAT back in the period 1950-1975, when overpopulation had not taken over. NOW, every Northern retiree fleeing from the Northeast & upper Midwest is intent on living here. Likewise, there is a surge of Hispanics from Puerto Rico and Latin America - who are moving away from South Florida into the Orlando Metro area. HOME PRICES are soaring, while WAGES remain low. It's kind of like Milton's "Paradise Lost" - and the sad thing is, it's the PEOPLE who have done it !

I've visited Florida, often, since 1963 & previously owned a small, rental & future retirement home there for 14 years!
But, I've noticed that just about everything costs as much as in northern states, yet salaries lag far behind! Yes,
Florida has no state income tax, but what good is that if you're making thousands of dollars less? Gov. DeSantis
will have a hard time justifying the low salaries, high insurance & water costs, when he runs for U.S. president!
I won't touch on the politics here. But Florida's cost of living has been outpacing it's median income at a rate that's outright unbelievable. Just look at Disney World, the states biggest employer and yet so many seasonal and part time positions.
Yes, this state has been heading in a bad direction. High crime city and rural, meth/oxy crisis, bottom tier education system and extremely high homeowners /car insurance rates when compared to rest of country. The financial math can still work for retirees bringing down northern $$$, but many younger people move down and realize the 'Florida' they visited as a child on vacation was really an illusion and move back out of state.
The Governor sets salaries for private businesses? Who knew - thanks for educating everyone!
"Just about everything costs as much as in northern states." That's utter nonsense. Things that cost the same everywhere do, sure, but that's everywhere. Housing remains significantly cheaper than housing in comparable settings in the northeast (Don't compare a house in Vinland, NJ to one in Coconut Grove) and property taxes are significantly lower. Yes, salaries are less, but if you move to Florida you get an immediate implicit raise from their being no state income tax. Beaches are free, unlike in NJ. Sales tax is lower than in NY or CT, it is cheaper to register a vehicle, the toll roads are cheaper and easier to avoid. It is just way cheaper to live here.
@@danz1182 You can't reason logic with people that see Florida as a joke, ie. Florida Man. They neglect to understand that "Florida Man" most likely moved here from the Northeast. Let them believe their delusion. We don't want them moving here. Just agree with them and let it be. I have lived in Orlando for 34 years. Just like everywhere, some things get better, some worse. Most of the worse is caused by the huge influx of non-Floridians bringing their leftist politics and preconceived hatred of the people already here.
Florida was pristine and beautiful once upon a time, up until greedy developers and big business took over and ruined the state w/ the construction of condos etc. All those new developments drew more attention to the state. All those condos and housing should have been kept at a minimum because Florida is fragile. The sea level land area collapse into sink holes etc. Developer's caused and still continue to add to Florida's problems. They want to wipe out the animal population in favor of humanoids who breed like mosquitoes.😖😖😖😖😖
The storm damage is one thing but as soon as the storm passes if you don’t have air conditioning black mold sets in and makes whatever is left of your house inhabitable. Main reason those crews are working as hard as they can to restore power. Florida is a sandbar barely above sea level.

I’ve lived in Florida all my life and would like to continue living here all my life but I know that likely won’t be possible give. All these present issues. I’ll keep enjoying my time here as long as I can.
Some people love chaos, tornadoes, floods, snakes, gators, heavy taxes and bad politics although I believe one can learn to see nothing if they keep their eyes closed and avoid listening to the news.
It’s only a matter of time before they pave over the whole state of Florida
Florida is going to have some problems with crop harvesting this year. Farmers are having difficulty finding US citizens willing to work for the salaries that the illegals accepted. And the fact that the Governor didn't understand this prior to legislating against migrant workers shows a lack of concern, knowledge or compassion. We used to visit Florida regularly. Now, we're waiting for the Governor to be replaced.
If Trump had finished the wall, then the gov’t. would have been able to address the millions that were here illegally and come up with a plan for the farmers looking for workers. The millions that are already here would have been granted citizenship if only because it would have been logistically impossible to deport them. With a wall you’d now have some control over future waves of people attempting to sidestep the law and immigrate here illegally. You could also make provisions to hire people on a temporary basis, like in the past, to work on these farms. Unfortunately the democrats of today will not sit at the table and make compromises with the republicans. The democrats today will tell that it’s their way or the highway. The democrats of today, have been taken over by the socialists and marxists. Their only concern is obtaining power and keeping it. They could care less about you and I and even less about our country as a whole. Because of gullible people like you (or those with an ulterior agenda), I’ve come to realize that I can no longer divide my vote based on the individuals running for election, and that instead I am forced to simply vote republican across the entire ballot. Yes, produce in the grocery stores is getting bad.
You expected that Gov DeSantis would be replaced last fall? He won reelection by the largest margin in state history...! Why? Because Florida is one of the most 'livable' states in the USA to move to, and the Governor has implemented MANY changes and legislation that improved the state, which made FL even more desirable. This state exemplifies what it means to be 'free' to work, play, and live in a location that unencumbered by invasive and intrusive government interference. That's why we call it the 'Free State of Florida'.
And, in case you were not aware, the PRIMARY reason we have a labor shortage in the entire USA is the most unconscionable and nonsensical immigration 'system' in the world.
Full and unfettered access to anyone who wishes to cross our border illegally...!?! That does NOT help anyone find a higher paying job. Because illegal aliens will work for less, many businesses will not hire citizens! That's not the fault of the Florida Governor. It's the responsibility those businesses, the Federal Govt., and the idiots running this administration. Ask yourself: 'Why is crime through the roof in Democrat run 'sanctuary cities'? The answer is obvious - defunding the police leads to increasing crime and more serious crimes.
BTW - Don't attempt to shoplift in Florida 'anywhere' - even in cities! That won't work here! Unlike major northern cities, we catch, prosecute, and incarcerate criminals, which protects our homes, businesses, and enhances our quality of life. If you don't understand that, the problem is with anyone who 'believes' that fewer police = more safety. Pure idiocy!
You have an issue with enforcing the law? Tell Congress to do something then.

I want to move to Florida but my friend said I shouldn't because of the hurricanes and supposedly crazy people
The hurricanes are so far and few people get excited when one finally comes for days off and hurricane party. The people that live right on the beach are the ones really affected everyone else might lose power a few days of that There is crazy people everywhere but when you get to Florida it’s the most laid back place ever and you don’t have a lot of the nonsense in the blue states
Not mentioned is that petty crime is off the charts in places like Orlando, Tampa, Daytona Beach and, not surprisingly, Miami.
As property insurers leave and the cost to repair and refurbish homes every few years thanks to hurricanes keeps going up exponentially, I really question how much longer Florida will be able to be a "low tax" State. Taxpayers from the other 49 and DC should not be constantly on the hook for federally funded cleanups after major hurricanes that are now happening nearly every year in Florida and at some point the US government has to say "you all know what the score is, and it's YOUR responsibility to pay for whatever damage results from major weather systems that are only bound to get more frequent and more expensive to recover from as time goes on".
Amen. I am sick of paying for people who know what they are geting into and then expect to be bailed out when things go south.

Rapid growth with no thoughts to infrastructure or density impact. Even parts of Lake County that used to be "outside" the madness are now busting at the seems and I'm constantly driving thru areas that used to be open land that I don't even recognize where I am now without GPS. And I can handle some growth, but there's no parks being built, no thought to the environmental impact, traffic, etc. And so much of it is retail/food strip mall type businesses. Low wages + high housing, sure that'll work out well. And the marijuana dispensaries that are popping up like Starbucks on every corner.
Much of New Orleans is also below sea level. New Orleans also has much of the same meteorological challenges. And New Orleans is also subsiding too. And those aren’t the real challenges. The real challenges are from government political policies that erode away the economic stability of the area. The poor and the middle class are becoming increasingly poor. This forces these people to relocate into other places where there’s better economic stability and growth. Detroit is a fine example of what I am talking about.
