If instruments were taught like this, maybe I would have stayed in band. I was pretty good and could even play multiple instruments, but I couldn't not make heads or tails of sheet music. If I wrote the letter each note was it was easier, but show me a not at have me tell you what it was at first sight? Not a chance. I could play just fine by making adding the letter to each note, but my band teacher was adamant that that'd not allowed and would drop your grade if you were caught doing it. You could play a song perfect for an exam but if you had letters written on your page, your 100% went down to like 85% if she was feeling nice.
