I sure wish Donner were around when I first started playing. Affordable guitars of the day were definitely not of good quality and most were so terrible that anyone wishing to learn woud very quickly lose interest.. which was the case for me. WTG Donner!
So far Donner has impressed me with many things. But then gear seem to disappear never to be seen again. Like their Livejack audio interface. Which works awesome. Then the 4" studio monitors. (All you can find is the 3" now). The 9-42 guitar strings. (Also awesome) Etc... I have been waiting for Donner to come out with a interface with multiple XLR inputs instead of one. And for them to make at least a 5 1/2" studio monitor. I would be all over them. Simply because the others work so well. Looks like a great guitar. And it's a looker too! Thanks for sharing brother 🎸🎸🤘
I got a box of their strings after I saw you mention them. After I got them and tried them, I went to order more but they're gone. I'd also like to get some bigger studio monitors if they'd make some.
I think Donner is taking a page from Ibanez when it comes to naming their models lol. The humbucker sounded great on the jam. Sounds like it has a fair amount of sustain and natural harmonics. Pleasantly surprised. I've never tried a Donner but I'm tempted to now. Great review and demo man. Do you think the push pull is usable in a live setting? Is the knob too flush to the pickguard or is there enough room for someone with chubby fingers like myself to ude it? Lol. I feel like those strat style knobs are not the greatest for that.
It would be very easy just to change the knobs ! There's hundreds of different types and styles knobs to choose from! Not even a deal breaker it is to easy of a fix! Rock on! 🎸👍
Great video. What upgrades would you do? I got the Same one, I love it, I was planing to get one of those FLEOR pickups, the stock ones aren’t bad though.
You can't just split a humbucker and have it sound like a single coil. For one thing, the presence of the humbucker in the strat means you have 500k pots in the single coils (rather than 250k), which makes everything have more treble. Second, if you split a humbucker, resistance will be in half. A 10k Humbucker - which is really high, will split and leave you with 5k single in the bridge, which probably have way too much treble. There are ways of getting around this, but most people should know about this.
Wow. I thought I was the only one to notice the strings trees. They're way better than the one's than came on my 2019 MIM Fender Player's Series Stratocaster. I bought the DST 400 for $168 during their 2022 holiday sale. Love it!
I had similar experience with the first Kramer model released after Gibson bought them out. $129.99 repurposed pacer bodies they altered into 3 pickup HSS superstrat types. The pickups are bad but the actual guitar is excellent. Mahogany body maple neck and fretboard. I modded one and I play it all the time. I actually just made a playing video where I play it a few days ago. Total mods Seymour Duncan JB and speed volume pot with short post. "Kramer Focus VT211s" is the full model name. It's perfect for modders or new players. I love to mod out cheap guitars when I find good ones. I've done 2 Donner's and they are an excellent company
Another cool vid with a great budget guitar. I have one of these guitar's little Brothers. The regular Strat that I got for maybe $169 ish... on sale for maybe $150 ish. It's the Lake Blue (metallic) HSS. And I love it. Really solid guitar. I also have the Donner Telecaster. White with minty / off white pick guard. Both guitars are OK as is - but I'll probably upgrade with some better pickups on both. The Tele is just a little bright for what I do. Strat just a little dark for what I do. Maybe Wilkinsons. Something in that lower price range. Necks and bodies were great on both of them - right out of the box. Pretty well intonated. Not much set-up at all. The guitar you got is nice. And great melodic playing - as always!
Thank you for the great demo, review, and video. A Donner Strat-Style is probably something I'm going to look into seriously when it's cold and rainy and it's impossible to do the property maintenance required "before" it gets cold! Your satisfaction with the fretwork (even though they aren't your preferred size frets) is a definite positive. I hope their guitars "without" maple fretboards are equally satisfactory. Please keep the demos, reviews, and videos coming.
It's crazy what you get for this little money. Have you reviewed an EART Guitar yet? Their headless models sound interesting, especially for the price and specs you get
I got a Donner telecaster for $159 (Canadian) and friggen love it. It annoys me that it sounds and feels better than my $800 Ibanez. The feel of the neck is absolutely exceptional.
I already have both colors available in the 400. This one has been sitting in my cart for a while. Lol. I like the maple neck and the pick guard on this one, and the amp... I'm probably getting this next. Like you, I've enjoyed Glarry, but I mostly got into them for the Telecasters, because I'd never had one, also have one of the Upgraded strats with the Wilkinson pick-ups and bone nut. The thick neck... 😂 well, it actually has it's moments. 😂 You should check out Leo Jaymz! I got the US flag LP and was blown away with the quality, so I have THEIR strat combo (in US Flag) coming in Monday. That's the only reason I didn't get this one this month. Lol. I'm enjoying your videos!

My first guitar was from JC Penney. I don't know how I even played it.

Awesome deal

Thanks! Yeah, not sure how quick you can switch back and forth on the push/pull. It's not super easy to grab onto.
It would be very easy just to change the knobs ! There's hundreds of different types and styles knobs to choose from! Not even a deal breaker it is to easy of a fix! Rock on! 🎸👍
holy shit you are awsome
Great video. What upgrades would you do?
I got the Same one, I love it, I was planing to get one of those FLEOR pickups, the stock ones aren’t bad though.
It's a little strange I suppose but I never really liked a Strat style guitar until I bought the DONNER 152B and now I love it. Go DONNER.

Excellent review..thanks. I sold both my Mexican Strats but missed them soo much, I got a Donner DST 152 arriving Thursday, I hope. 😊
Enjoy!
Damn, I like tall/jumbo frets. Hmm, should I get one and refret, or just get a Squier with bigger frets, hmmm.
Lol I'm trying to figure out what brand rhymes with Mary??
Glarry
Man this is sick. Donner keeps impressing! Great video dude.
Thanks bromeister!
I have one and I absolutely love it I play it more than my strap

Cheap guitars can be great. No doubt about it.

They've got lots of options. Check them out.
I like how the donner guitars have wide fret boards or at least they look like they do. Anybody say one way or the other?
AWESOME REVIEW RICHARD ! I just purchased three of these guitars they absolutely ROCK !
Three?? All for yourself ? Wow.
İ bought this guitar because of you, hello from turkey

Man love that rear humbucker with that coil tap! Awesome review Richard!!
🤘
Is this using pedals or clean guitar to amp?
I got a glarry 2 years ago! worst guitar I own! I like building my own strats now! thanks!
I have one Glarry right now, and it's not too bad. I just did some cool upgrades to it. Video coming soon.
I have that exact one - color and everything. Great guitar!
That first jam really shows off how these *can* rock. Great review

I haven't tried EART yet.
I like the Donner dst-152b 🎸

I got the Cypress Green DST 400...oh man I love this guitar!!! All I did was put better strings on it and wow what a difference..
Donner makes great guitars. The world needs to know this.
I got a Donner telecaster for $159 (Canadian) and friggen love it. It annoys me that it sounds and feels better than my $800 Ibanez. The feel of the neck is absolutely exceptional.
Just order mine today. On sale for $170. Looking forward to getting it an start learning to play
Awesome! Good luck and stick with it.
Yup, that does it. I'm getting one
Rhymes with Mary 🤣🤣
Salad days of entry level guitars has been upon us the last few years. A far cry from the days of the late 70's.
We are in the golden age of quality entry level cheap guitars. It's quite amazing.
That guitar looks rad
RICHARD YOU ROCK
Great review and great playing! I like this guitar- thank you.

Is it good to play rock?
Yes. Perfect for rock. This is like a Fender strat.
@@thebaldshredder okay, thank you. I'm about to start studying electric guitar, I'm new at this😅

Thanks! Leo Jaymz is on my radar.
I have one just like that it plays great it sounds amazing. I play it more than I play my player series strat
Great guitar.
How do these compare to the Fesley
I like Fesley better. Neck is better.
