    This video, and your Calm Marketing video, are the ONLY ones of ALL the marketing programs (that I paid lots of money to attend) and videos I have EVER known that actually inspire me... give me real confidence that I can do this. I lean toward introvert, and have wanted to do my own business for at least the last 15 years! I have several certifications, including the recent Enneagram Teacher Certification, yet getting myself "out there" has been an inner challenge. You are the first person I have ever heard (I am age 56) who has ever resonated with me and given me the inner courage to go forward.... Calmly, Practically, Authentically, and Gently. Phew. Hallelujah. ❤ Thank You from Northern California. 🌲

    What a fabulous chat this was thank you, Louise. I agree with so much of what you were saying. When I started teaching on Skillshare, I was lucky to get one-to-one guidance, which helped enormously but was still stressful. I started my YT channel only a few weeks ago and I'm still not as comfortable as I am on Skillshare. I think that is because it is accessible to a lot more people, but I love what you said about not caring what others think. I'm a lot older than you so I am very careful about camera angles to the side of my face and that is pure vanity and probably won't go away any time soon because I'm just getting even older....but I still love doing YT! It has given me a lot more confidence in myself which I never had a few years ago. Thanks again Louise for such an insightful chat.

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Due to some traumatic bullying experiences I had in my childhood, together with this belief I had that you had to be this confident person that naturally took up a lot of space to be on camera (or a performer in general), it was so hard for me to film myself for a very long time. In the beginning, I broke out into tears and felt my throat tense up every time I turned on the camera.
    I was searching for advice online on how to deal with it, and like you, I couldn't find much beyond some simple 'how to be comfortable on camera' tips. Not bad advice but it wasn't really what I was looking for.
    For me, it's been a lot of inner healing work, together with what you did in terms of 'exposure therapy'. Seeing & hearing myself on camera and learning to evaluate if it's a good performance or not without bashing myself was an important first step. As time went on I started to see myself differently thanks to filming myself in a positive way. I used to think I wasn't a very expressive person, but that turns out to not be true at all! Also just speaking and articulating my thoughts clearly has been very helpful to building up my confidence.

    • @LouiseStigell
      @LouiseStigell  2 года назад +8

      Thank you for sharing this. 🖤 I relate a lot to thinking you're not a very talkative/expressive person. I felt that for a long time. But then I realized that I was very talkative, expressive, spontaneous and humurous with my closest friends and family. So I obviously had it in me, under the right circumstances. Now I'm practicing feeling as relaxed and "myself" in front of the camera as I am with my friends. Because I am in fact imagining a close friend on the other side of the lens, and not a huge, faceless, critical crowd. Those mental tricks can make a huge difference. 😊

    You already have great Camera presence, I’m adhd, extroverted but also camera shy. No where near as confident sounding as you are and I’m year and half in, below 100 subs. I never thought I’d be on video either or photos or selfies either , but 2020 shows cancelled I found myself on RUclips and enjoying editing - just no idea how to film but learning . This was great 😊🥰.

      GOSH! I’d forgotten that I had left that comment. Since then I’ve managed to post a few videos to my new channel. None of them turned out exactly - or even similar, for that matter - to what I had initially planned, for I found that my original plans turned out to not be quite right for me.
      Louise, your content prompted me to dive even more deeply into my reasons for being here (on RUclips, not my entire existence), and I wish to thank you for that. I had been attempting to control things beyond my reach. Letting go, and allowing whatever’s next to unfold is an easier said than done sort of thing for me, as one who tends toward a planning habit. I’m figuring out though, that a plan can be sparse and leave room for new opportunities, such as taking a few moments of my morning to pop in here quickly to say Thank You again. Something you said in one of your videos - I don’t recall if it is this one or not - helped me to reframe a challenge area in my life. You said that you do your bookkeeping once a month. *WOW* I had not considered that simplicity for myself before. I’ve got some work to do to get there, but *maybe* August will be the first month in my adult life that I’ll only need to do my bookkeeping on one day. I can almost taste how good that will feel when I meet that goal! The other thing that helped me a lot was when you shared your experiences as a Highly Sensitive Person. I did not realize that was “a thing”, and so I’ve been learning more about HSP, as I have always been one and simply was unaware that there are others who don’t feel it all. There are many other helps as well, but those are the two most potent in this moment. I hope you’ll keep doing what you do for years to come. Your art is lovely, as is your personality & presentation. Cheers!

    This is exactly what I wanted to find when I searched for "introvert youtube"! 😄 When you talked about video as surrender -- amazing. That exactly describes my experience. I started my garden channel to document my garden, but in the process had to learn how to overcome my barriers as an introvert perfectionist. To my surprise, I have found the process of making videos incredibly healing and motivating. Interestingly, I think video making challenges my perfectionism in much the same way as gardening does. I have found that the best thing in both areas can often be to observe lots of advice and then ignore it and do what you want and get it done rather than worrying that it is perfect. Anyway, I love your reflections here, thoroughly enjoyed this. 🧡

I think your approach of incremental improvements is probably an effective way to tackle this problem. It’s soo hard to go through all thoughts and uncertainty in my own head about doing smth (business, project, channel, whatever) just for yourself, it’s somehow relaxing to hear that you’re not the freak and not the only one who deals with it:) one thing to add, I admitted that sometimes it’s easier for me to go out of comfort zone when I’m working for company, and have ‘a task to be done’, so I’m forced to do extraordinary things like presenting to the crowd, or doing video, or sale my work. But when it’s about me and my interests, I’m like ‘I am 5 y.o. girl, I want to seat in my closet and don’t want to talk to anyone’. It’s so exhausting:(

    Omg! I dont believe that you and I kind-off so similar. Out of many similarities, with you talking about how you started your RUclips channel, feeling odd while taking a selfie - One similarity was - Feeling comfortable about growing older! Like I have been telling all my friends that I am super happy to have grown old; because there is still so much to learn and do. And you are relaxed and not hurrying! :) its calmer right. Many of my facebook friends list do not get it, but my besties get it.

    Thank you so much for making this video, I actually got emotional watching it. I relate 100% to everything you’re saying, it’s like you’re voicing my actual thoughts 😭❤️ I’ve been thinking about starting a RUclips channel for the longest time, simply because I struggle so much with social media. I’m chronically ill and I can’t possibly keep up with the posting grind. In an attempt to gather some momentum before launching my website I decided to really make an effort on Instagram during October by doing a drawing challenge and live streaming a drawing session every day. I made it through four days before I crashed and burned. The pressure of instagram literally made me sick. It was almost three weeks before I was able to be creative again and my website launch has been delayed. During this time I’ve been thinking a lot about how/if I can share my art and get traffic to my site, without social media. RUclips seems like the way to go, but I’m dragging my feet because of everything you said in this video. I think I was meant to find your channel now 🥰 first I found your quitting Instagram video and then this one 🤩 Going to watch all your other videos now and tomorrow I’ll film myself talking to the camera while I walk my dog 😊 thank you!

      Wow, your comment made ME emotional. 😅 Thank you so much. I guess you were the one I made the video for. 🖤
      I relate so much to everything you're saying about IG. I really don't get how all these other people do it. How they have the creative stamina to keep up with their posting schedule like that. But maybe it just comes down to personal preference. I can see the fun in that type of quick content creation, but I'm just not made for it. I feel a lot better when I can take my time and put out something longer and more worked-through. Sounds like you may be "wired" the same way.
      Hope you had fun with the dog walk filming! 😁

    • @ann-kristinknardal3164
      @ann-kristinknardal3164 2 года назад

      @@LouiseStigell I'm definately wired the same way, I like to take my time no matter what I do. I'm all about slow living, I can't stand rushing 😅
      I too see the fun in making the kind of content that IG wants us to make, but not all the time and all of it at the same time 🥵 After all, I want to spend my time making art, not content. I just want to make pretty things and share it with people who might enjoy it - that's it. I don't have either the time, energy or even the interest, to figure out the secret handshake that unlocks visibility and reach 😅It stresses me out!
      The idea of RUclips also stresses me out because there is so much I have to learn and overcome if I'm going to do it, but I liked what you said about how it feels like your actually building something and leveling up (I also think in levels btw 😂). I just feel lost on other social media. I never know what I'm doing, I don't feel like I'm getting better at anything. If anything it actually feels like I'm forgetting how to draw because my mind is so preoccupied and frustrated with social media 😳
      Haven't been on my walk yet, but I'll try filming later 😬😅 I have to say, the four days of livestreaming I managed to do actually did show me something important. I was amazed at how quickly I became comfortable with talking on the live! I think I would have showed my face and maybe talked to the camera as well, if I had been able to keep it up. So that part of youtubing has actually become a lot less terrifying 😊
      Ok, I'm gonna go now! Sorry, I forget myself when I'm writing, I am the queen of long comments 😅

    • @LouiseStigell
      @LouiseStigell  2 года назад +2

      Agree! Working hard on a platform is all well and good IF the content you're making continues to have value and get you results. The more time and energy a platform takes, the more it should give back. Feels like the opposite is true with IG right now. I have worries around RUclips too, since it's not my platform and anything can happen. But I will always have all of my videos, and they will still have value in the future, regardless of the state of RUclips. I couldn't say the same thing about my IG profile. 😂
      I do miss the casual interactions on IG, getting quick feedback and input and that. Looking forward to getting access to the Community functions here on RUclips for that! 😊
      I know I've already said it in the video, but YT has been so much fun and so worth my time from the very beginning. As long as you actually like the process of it, don't worry about the rest. Let yourself be a beginner. Focus on learning one little thing at a time and make better and better videos. And have fun with it!
      Oh and thank you for the long comments. They're very much welcome. 🥰

      @@LouiseStigell Thank you, I think I'll have to give it a go! From what you're saying I think I might actually like it 🤯😅 I just hope it's something I'll be able to keep up with, without triggering flare ups, but I guess I'll never know if I don't try 😊
      I really like step-by-step guides to things. Have you come across any good videos or tutorials like that (or maybe you could make one? 😃), on how to start a youtube channel? I would absolutely love it if "the RUclips leveling up game" was a thing 🤩 How fun would it be to start the daunting process of figuring it all out, if you could approach it like a video game with tasks and quests to complete to unlock achievements and leveling up? 😍 But I'll settle for a good step-by-step walkthrough 😅 I'll start by checking out the videos you linked 😊

    • @LouiseStigell
      @LouiseStigell  2 года назад +1

      I can't really think of a specific video that shows the exact step by steps. I've sort of puzzled it together with many different tutorials. But start with the suggested channels/videos I list in the description and you'll likely find something close to what you're looking for.
      I *might* do a video like that in the future, but probably later on when I'm more confident and efficient in my workflow. Still pretty new at this. 😅
      God speed! 🥳

      @LouiseStigell  2 года назад

      Thank you so much! 🖤🙏 If course you can start a channel. Just start practicing and take it slowly. 😊

    • @MonicaMolinar
      @MonicaMolinar 2 года назад

      Go ahead and make videos in whatever your native language is. You can have subtitles in English for a wider audience if you want to do that, but I can also encourage you to just go for it in any language.
      I only speak English (currently), but I learn a lot by watching videos not in English. I have two olive trees in my garden, and wanted to learn how to process them myself, without using lye. I watched an Italian grandmother’s process, and didn’t understand what she was saying, but still learned how to do it by watching, and now have a cupboard full of home-processed olives for my family.
      So, no matter what words you use, or in which language, you have something worth sharing that can help yourself and others. When you start your channel, let me know so I can see what you show. 😀
