OK, so 24 fps doesn't make doesn't make compelling slo-mo ... but that shout-out to the Gumper. Wow. Obscure even 38 years ago to non-Habs (and I guess North Stars) fans ... "Slow the fan down a little bit if you [can]" LN > LS for me but man, this one went pretty high on the ol' Lame-O-Meter! 😀
Enormous Letterman fan here. If you guys haven’t tried to track down Meg Parsont and interview her about her experience for that “Staff Favorites” section, you’re doing something wrong.
I think this was all because of an early CCD camera with a high shutter speed. Very cutting edge at the time. Playback was still via standard 30fps video slowed down, but each frame was "sharper" because of the high camera shutter. I recall that ABC Sports used a better system with high-speed video recorder during the '84 Olympics, but there were only a relative handful of those tape machines made. This stuff weighed hundreds of pounds, took teams of engineers to operate and cost hundreds-of-thousands of dollars, all for what we can now do with a smartphone shooting 4K resolution. We've certainly come a long way!
Every RUclipsr, Tik Tok person, etc, doing this, throwing things off buildings, the slo mo replays and so on; meet your pioneer! 🙂
Quite the opposite... Look how Conan took every bit and twisted even more.. Take Minty the Candy Cane & Pea Boy just for 1 example..
"Eggs In a Fan!" is my favorite Hemingway novel. Love classic Letterman. Thank you!!! 😁
This is yet another reason why Dave is a late night legend. This is perfect! I wish that late night TV could be fun again. Will it ever be fun again?
Thank you, Rabbi! 😂
Peak Letterman when he was still having a blast. There was an innocence in the air; they were breaking new ground.
This was awesome, thanks Dave!
Just a bunch of kids, having fun...
That’s Gurnee!
I grew up watching videos of Bullets pulsating through objects in Slo-Mo on RUclips as a Kid.
Seeing a fan slice up some hard boiled eggs might have been interesting!
I am glad I went to bed early on 2/18/86.
Aw, I wanted to see Teri Garr.
All those guys replying to "Thank you rabbi" 😂
Someone wants to claim he did it first before the Internet... Jealousy, thy name is David
That is some very unappetizing butterscotch pudding! I don’t think that pudding is supposed to splash like that.
Have you ever dropped a bowling ball into a large bowl of it?
Apparently I've been doing scrambled eggs completely wrong all my life!
Hiiiiiiii dear Dave how r u ❤❤❤ welcome back ❤❤❤
I Remember this !

Now I gotta go watch Teri Garr for the next 8hrs.
Lol that beautiful 30fps of the 80's and the 60fps being slowed to 30 - "slow motion" - man old tech was great, eh?!
