Another classic 'Clive awkwardly demonstrating how things are flexible' demo! Love it.
Er thanks :)
Hi Clive, which down jacket are you wearing and the size of the down jacket. I am looking for a similar layering.
love your reviews
Thanks :)
Hey Great review as always....
Just a couple of questions....are you confident this can replace taking a separate hard shell/soft shell combo for milder climates (12 decrees C low)? Also would you think it would be sufficient for skiing ( Zero Degrees C ) with the correct thermal layers beneath it? Many thanks in advance....keep posting the great no nonsense reviews
Hi Dave I have used the Kinetic plus as both a hard and soft shell jacket in the mountains and on long distance walks and have been happy with its performance. The Kinetic Alpine is the same fabric so I would expect it to perform just as well.
As for use for skiing I am afraid I cannot comment it is something I have never done -sorry!
great review thank you - about to purchase this. Had the kinetic plus jacket wrong size sent to me twice by online company (don't ask!) then happened to stumble upon this jacket and looks better all around :) Couple of questions:
1) Which hood do you prefer alpine vs the plus? I like the close fit of the plus but prefer the colour way . Do the adjustments you can make on the alpine make it a close fitting hood? 2) is the alpine still a slim fit like the plus? Thanks
Hi, I definitely prefer the hood of the Alpine. Although the Plus has the elasticated crown I found there was nothing to stop the wind blowing in the sides, and if I was facing into the wind on a rainy day I got wet inside the hood. The Alpine hood has worked much better.
The Alpine is a slim fit like the Plus.
Hope that helps
Clive
@@E-outdoorCoUk many thanks for the feedback, glad to hear it's an improvement overall. Just ordered the jacket! All the best
Nice review!!
Thanks :)
Hey Clive, how has the real world performance of the Kinetic plus been when it comes to it's waterproofness? I understand that jacket had a rating of 10,000mm which is probably on the lower end of the scale compared to a high end hardshell? I assume this new version has the same rating? Cheers
Hi James, to be honest I have not managed to really put the Alpine through its paces yet. I have worn the Kinetic Plus in some pretty bad weather and have been impressed with it as a waterproof. I have included a link to a video I did when I wore it on Carrantoohil so that you can judge for yourself.

Whether the Kinetic Alpine is on the same level as a high end hardshell I am yet to discover, that will be a future video.
Clive
I've been in gales and downpours and its been perfectly fine. One warning though is the dwr treatment isnt very good as its flexible.
It's the least waterproof jacket Rab make.. it's not fully waterproof. 10,000mm.
