- Ahoy Legends! This week Nick and myself head to Lake Awoonga in search of the infamous 1m Barra! In fact it's been 13 years since I last caught one that big from this impoundment! We aren't lucky enough to have a heap of time this trip only 2 nights and 1 full day, so the plan is to fish as hard as possible and see if we can get the job. Little did we know the trip would exceed all our expectations! Hope you enjoy the episode!

Fantastic Sammy, good to see Awoonga coming back. I used to do the annual trip in the mid 2000s from Sydney for the October full moon and it wasn’t,t unusual to get half a dozen meteries in an early morning secession and back it up for the night fish. Best one was 132 cm and 30kg + on a hard body. It blew out the brag mat and the scales.
Yeah how epic was it back in the day! Hopefully it gets back to its former glory soon 🙌🙌

Beat of a barra mate! Absolute dream catch right there. I've only caught barramundis in stocked ponds before, one day I'll catch one in the wild
Well these ones are stocked into the lakes as well. So not a true wild fish, but still good fun 👌👌

Q mate went out 2 weeks ago. Caught 1 at a 107 his bloody first btw! And drop 1 that was all besides a heaps of fork tail cattie

Looked like an absolute awesome trip with some quality chrome coming onboard. Is there any reason to go a baitcaster over spin? I'm looking at doing my first barra dam trip once the border opens so looking to purchase some gear specifically for the big girls. Only ever used spin before but noticing alot of the impoundment barra are caught on baitcaster outfits
Be great to get your opinion on which is best and why

If your good at using them baitcasters cast more accurately and in my experience handle bigger fish nicer
