- Hello everyone and welcome to Inside Arsenal.
In today's show I discuss Martin Odegaard as he returns to link up with some of his Arsenal team-mates for a training camp in Marbella. I also give my thoughts on England's dramatic win against Slovakia as well as answering your questions on topics such as Riccardo Calafiori.

It's very clear now that Odegaard's influence on team. The reason why Saka performs well for Arsenal is because of Odegaard's vision and quick passing to him. With England they don't get the ball out to Saka quick and has no one who can play through balls on right. Plus having you RB not over lapping and supporting you like white does not help at all.
This isn’t completely true because Saka has performed week for England in the last 3 years (this tournament discounted) I do agree that Ø makes life easier
Hutchinson being sold for 22m is exactly why Eddie has a 50 m price tag Simon Jordan
We all want Eddie to be sold for 50m, it doesn't mean it's going to happen unfortunately for a lot of reasons. First reason is no club abroad is going to pay that amount for Eddie, when they can probably get a similar player for far less in another country. Prices are so infliated in PL. Second nowadays clubs pay a huge premium for potential, which Eddie doesn't really have as he's 25 already, but that Hutchinson has.Third : Which club would want Eddie? Second half of the table clubs in PL. Would they want to pay 50m for a striker? Probably not.
To bee honest 22 million is a large amount of money for Hutchinson. Hee wasn't even a guaranteed starter for. Ipswich although second half of the season he did well. But hiss goals and assists were far from outstanding. And I do think iff a Premier league club at the bottom end of the prem signed Eddie I'm convinced he would score double figures for goals and assists over a season. That's not 50 million level but zerkzee is 40 million and 15 million in agents fee for a player who scored 11 goals in a season so why should we not ask for 40 million for a prem proven striker. @@adamchaoui2184
Difference is Hutchinson did well in the championship but eddi has always been on the bench all his career even while in the championship with Leeds. No club in epl will take such risk on a player that has never shown promise.
Sir Charles, I disagree with you that Saka has been poor. He's not receiving the ball quickly enough, he's having to drop deep and then play in defence. In a very poor England, he can only do so much. Kyle Walker has been abysmal and for some reason is not passing to Saka. I just don't see why people jump on the Saka has been poor bandwagon, without looking at the whole team.
Hi Charles! Can't help but thinking that saka has been okay with what he's been working with. He's had absolutely zero help from walker, nobody is coming near to him to bounce balls off of for him to turn and run in behind. On top of that, every team knows that our attacks are going to be focused down that side as Bellingham and foden are both trying to operate in the 10 yet he's still managing to create chances and put in some good balls. Just my opinion 🤷🏻♂️ keep up the good work!

Yes, then you compare this to when he's playing for arsenal and having balls played into him from white who then goes on the overlap and odegaard comes out to the right to play the intricate one twos that tear defences apart and it's night and day

I have to agree Charles, Rice has been solid as a rock. Without doubt our most consistent and probably best player. As you say Charles, his stats are brilliant for yesterday, yet the mainstream media are giving him an average 6th best England player on 5.5 out of 10. Idiots at Talksport gave him a 3. Beggars belief. These are the stats you mentioned.

I'm sure you've seen Bologna president speaking publicly that they want to keep Calafiori, but if an good offer comes in they will let him go and they don't think Juventus will be his destination and prefers to sell him abroad. I mean, we have good relationship with Bologna since that Tomiyasu deal right? The more i think about it, if we just can persuade the player we might be able to bring him out of Italy(Such an obvious thing but that is the case here). Bologna's stance seems like no to Juventus, but welcoming offers from abroad. We also have Italy captain Jorginho who can help.

He scores the equaliser and I’m seeing a UEFA MOTM award and websites giving him highest rating of the England players. Purely results based analysis stuff
Rice was best England player, for me, yesterday (possible club bias there). He’s the most important player in the England side. There’s no midfield without him, we’d be carved apart like a league two side in this competition
There were 10 Italians in the pl last year. Only 5 two years prior to that. Italian players don’t travel. Simple as that.
Southgate is completely unable to get wingers working. Saka has looked lost in just about every match. Walker won't pass to him at all
Rice was definitely the best player on the pitch.
Elliot Anderson is a lifelong Newcastle fan, he didn't want to leave Newcastle he only wanted to play for them, it's his boyhood club. They said to him he has to leave so Newcastle didn't have to sell Isaak or Bruno.
I dont have the stats to back it up but it always felt like ManC would have players in reserve.
Mahrez always springs to mind would rarely play before Xmas and then play the last 15 games full refreshed at peak minutes.
Is this a move of a squad of 20 we will have 5-10 players at their peak early in the season then players peak later in the season?
I am not saying we will have two separate 11s but just a mix of players not only tactically but all at various levels of fitness as we move through the season.
I think to be competitive in all comps we need aa squad of at least 19 players of equal quality with a few top class youngsters thrown in for good measure

Has ManCity now forced to teams to have to be on their A game the complete season?
i.e. no longer can teams go on a post Xmas run.
My point is not about squad size or ability. My point is do we have 10 players peak in fitness at different points in the season. So not a crunch period where players all max out on minutes around the same time.

Saka looked great at LWB 🤩🤩, his will to defend and then transition forward can be a benefit for the club, hope Arteta is watching. If we can get Nico Williams, put him on the LW or RW, we’d be dangerous next season

After the criticism that media has given him, i feel that it’s not deserved.
Kane and Foden are occupying spaces that Bellingham operates. He was struggling to get involved in a difficult game that looked to pass him by. Our games are crying out for Ollie Watkins to run forward not towards our goal!!!
Saka was slightly different. At Arsenal he’s always surrounded by Ben White who makes overlaps, underlaps or simply just around Saka to give him an option for a pass, if Saka runs into a brick wall and nowhere to go. The same for Odegard… So, Saka gets a massive help from those 2 players and that’s what makes Saka deadly and impossible to defend against.
I watched Kyle Walker yesterday, he didn’t even get anywhere near Saka to help. I’m not slagging Walker, because that has come from Southgate, but this is my point…
I’m not so sure that players are our criticism targets. The fault lays simply on Gareth Southgate’s (and his coaching team) only!
Right, the manager tells the players what to do. If they don't stick to the plan, they get dropped. Southgate just isn't elite enough considering Foden, Saka and Rice can follow complex instructions from elite coaches. Southgate is not that coach.
So is it southgate telling people not to pass to Saka except if you're Rice

That’s a very good question, which counters my point that Southgate is not a good tactician, but it also proves that he cannot motivate these world class players. We have turned into the France. It doesn’t matter how much talent France has, they’re capable of hitting the self destruction button on most of the major international tournaments.
Can you explain PSR transfer thing? What do you mean by the loophole? Sorry, I am newer to football and can’t seem to google an answer I understand! Or if anyone can point me to “PSR for Dummies”! Thanks for any help!
Basically the loophole is that two clubs both facing psr sanction can sell academy players at an inflated price to one another to bank pure profit on their books

@@CharlieBleakley that might be the case. I haven't followed the news. The deal between Chelsea and villa was the first example of this kind of psr transfer.

I currently have tickets to the USA tour game against Liverpool in late July. What are the chances the players on international duty for Euros and Copa make it to the games in LA and Philadelphia? The tickets were not cheap and my son would be devastated if the likes of Saka, Rice and Havertz aren’t there

Hey Charles love the content. Do you think that the Ivan Tony ship has sailed? When I saw him come on for England I could not help being excited. He has such a physical presence, his movement is exciting an excellent, and he clearly knows where the goal is. It was not just his assist that got me excited, but rather as soon as he came on as a substitute I could not help but wonder how we would look with him leading our line. What do you reckon?

Hey Charles, I think Saka had a better game than Foden.. He's the only runner in the front line... Kane Jude and Phill all play with their backs to goal but its the tactic where the issue is not with any of the players
It reminds me of us a few years ago playing the donut football of just recycling the ball in a circle but when England got close to the box they just lump it in to try to find Kanes Head.
If they are the tactics that Southgate wants to play then he has to play Toney with Kane to get anything out of it.
How did you feel about Saka having to go LB? And if Trips is gone do you think he starts there against the Swizz?

Mainoo and Rice look like they can work great together, they both were great yesterday and compliment each other quite well.

After watching Kai Havertz miss a couple of sitters the other day, I really don't know now. I think we might need to up our game in hunting for a striker.

I’m perfectly happy with him. He worked so hard to make himself not only fit into, but also became a vital part of the team last season. Once he found his role, he was absolutely brilliant for us. I’m keeping faith in him. And even if someone else comes in, Kai has earnt the right to have the chance to start the season defending his place.

Kai has as many goals
As Harry Kane and more than Lukaku, morata and Mbappe. Yes he’s missed chances but he’s getting in the right areas. Germany have a clear cut number 9 but prefer Kai for all the other attributes.

The club needs to keep moving forward and adding we’re still relying on zinny at left back or timber who may suffer injury setbacks Ben whites cover is tomiyasu who can’t stay fit for more than 10 games magaalhaes and saliba have zero decent cover who replaces Odegaard if he gets a long term injury? Saka looks fucked as does rice again down to Arteta not having enough cover and over playing them. Loads of work to do and if this season we start the same 11 as last year every week With no cover our season will end over before Christmas simple as that.

Charles, the England players remind me of them looking like Roman statues and playing like they met for the very first time, but England did somehow pull off a win last night! Maybe the secret is in their boring sideways passes and backward dribbles? I am still wondering how these 'useless' players helped Man City win the title last season? Maybe this is the new norm for England, and after 4 very boring games we should now just get use to it. After all, a win is a win. Nobody will complain if they go on and lift the trophy.

Charles, rice stars…. Did you watch the game. I’m Arsenal fan through and through but have to be balanced and say when players don’t perform.
Rice was very good and the numbers back that up. He almost single handedly held England together while everyone else around him was awful.
Agreed. Rice was so busy helping left, right and centre on defensive duties.
He only had 1 misplaced pass. And was very good with carrying the ball forward.
He would have been a lot better if Fodden and Kane were to stick to their supposed positions, so Rice and Bellingham could actually run the midfield. Rice attempted quite a few passes to Bellingham.

Charles, please explain to me why Walker gets the ball, looks at Saka on the right in space with options to run at the full back and he just turns inside and plays the ball either back to a centre half or into a midfield player who is covered. He does it time after time. Hence Saka is no threat. Does Walker have an agenda? I certainly think so. He is soooo the wrong fullback to work with Saka. Bring on Trent. He will free Saka up. Also Foden, so poor. crosses weak and corners abysmal. Why does he get to take dangerous free kicks? I was screaming for him to go and then 30 seconds after he does we score 2 goals. Southgate is such a poor strategic manager and by a country mile the luckiest manager on the planet. I want him to pick my Lottery tickets not run a national side.
