Great first episode, Francesca. The Balloon Jacket/Cardi is a very nice looking garment. I think I may have to investigate that one. All of your knits are beautiful. The things that our knitting teaches us! And crochet, etc. Looking forward to more episodes. =]

Thank you for podcasting!
Thank you for sticking with my videos, Claudia! I wear the open cardigan quite a lot and it was quite mindless to knit. The sweater is also very, very soft and pleasant to wear. Curious to see what you’ll end up knitting!

Very enjoyable! Your sweaters look great and those baby socks are so cute. I see a Novice Sweater in my future made in Drops Air. You were definitely inspiring!
I like those baby socks too, honestly. Having a final object to hold and appreciate and gift to my daughter was definitely the ONLY reason that motivated me through the slog of knittings those socks lol Are you a sock knitter? Glad you're considering Drops Air. It's so soft!
Love your podcast and your sweaters are beautiful❤️ Our last two grandchildren were born in downtown Naples hospital in the Italian hospital...loved being in Italy....our son in law was stationed there for three years so we went several times and got to see the Amalfi coast and Capri....beautiful country❤️
Amalfi and Capri are probably some of the most stunning places we have here in Italy! I hope your family is doing well. Thank you so much for stopping by and saying hello
Francesca, congratulations on your first episode! Your English is perfect and I enjoyed watching you😊 I liked all of your knitted garments, especially the greenish-blue and the multi-coloured sweaters. I think that those two colours are very flattering on you. I look forward to watching your your next episodes😊
Oh thank you! I especially love the greenish-blue cardigan. Now that I think about it, I’ll be the first cardigan with buttons that I ever made. Thank you so much for your support, it really means a lot and it’s so motivating! Have a lovely weekend
Great start Francesca. I am also a new podcaster and it helps to watch others starting out so I dont feel like such an idiot! Here is a question....I am from South Africa and I am coming to visit a friend in Italy in Decmeber/January. I am thinking of giving a workshop while I am there. Do you think it is possible to conduct a workshop in English in Italy? I am very excited at the prospect but not sure if people would attend. I have been asked to do a workshop of dying wool, which I do besides spinning and knitting. It is a fun process and would probably be best done over 2 days, say a weekend. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks so much.
That is an interesting question! I don’t know of any conferences or similar that would take place in that time frame. I’m teaching a small class in October (the conference is called Knit Italy) but I don’t know of other events in December/January. Not sure how you would go about hosting your own workshop, not as part of a bigger conference… I guess you would have to rent a space and find people who would like to learn, like you would in your own Country, I think… I don’t have experience around this, sorry 😓
Thank you, Tracy! (And the cat says thank you too - he’s here on the sofa next to me, sleeping) I actually don’t recall particularly well what made me interested in knitting... I wonder if I had seen a RUclips video or podcast maybe! I do remember I especially liked the fact that I could do something that felt somewhat artistic but “not too much” (which would be too intimidating for me). I like having a pattern/recipe/instructions to follow and still having the possibility to be free in the choice of yarn and colors. The best of both worlds!
Great to have found your podcast. I have not used Drops before and would like to try - seems so many people love it and it's a great price. I think it's hilarious that you got so much yarn that you had enough to make a sweater with the left over. And you still have more yarn. Maybe you can knit a hat or cowl. 😂😂
Thanks for finding me! I should probably be a little bit ashamed of my yardage calculation skills, but honestly it’s just very amusing lol 😂 I ended up giving that little bit of leftover half to a friend and she’s indeed making a cowl! If you can get your hands on some Drops yarn, I would recommend Drops Air, or the Kid Silk mohair if you need some mohair for a project, or anything really 😂
@@AnItalianKnitter It is amusing. I have a habit of buying way too much yarn. You were generous enough to give it away. You could also mix with other colors for a color-block sweater. Yes to kid silk too, so soft and adds a luxurious feel to a sweater.
I’ve never heard of that type of heel, but I just made a note, thank you. I feel like there’s a tiny chance I might try sock knitting again this summer, when it’ll be too hot to knit anything else 😂
Just found your pod cast!Great energy and happy to see another fellow Italian podcasting in English !!! Btw your accent if super good….and I am really jealous, speaking like a Barilla ad 😂
Hi Francesca - Just found you - Why don’t you try a wool dye on your jumper as it’s a light colour should take the dye well. Anyway great podcast and your English is perfect. Best wishes Sharon from Dorset in the UK
Ooh that sounds interesting, I’ll have to research this. I’m sure being able to dye wool would come handy in the future when I’ll end up knitting up something and actually don’t like the final color (it happened to me in the past so I’m sure it’ll happen to me again). Actually, the last time it happened I ended up donating the sweater 😬 Thank you for sharing. Love from Italy
Ciao Francesca, I'm Rosie from Toronto Ontario. My parents were from Italy. I wish I could speak Italian like you speak English! I hated doing socks too, but now I started to do two at a time with magic loop. So much easier. Where do you buy your Drops yarn? I love your choice of yarn and I love Petite Knits. Welcome to the knitting podcast community!
Thank you for welcoming me! ❤️ To improve your Italian you might have to come live here for a bit, that would do wonders. Or maybe an extended vacation would do. 😉 I already knit socks two at the time with magic loop and I still don’t like it. 😭 There’s no hope for me, I guess. I don’t like fiddling with small needles and a tiny amount of stitches and I also loathe turning the heel and all of that. But man, knitted socks (when they are finished) are fantastic, so I sometimes still knit them. For any Italian viewer out there, I find Drops yarn online at dilanaedaltrestorie.it, but I also find it at a yarn store not far away from my house (maybe 20 minutes driving). Lucky me! I want to try a few other brands this year: Knitting For Olive, Sandnes Garn, maybe more? If you have a favorite brand, let me know. Thank you again for stopping by and saying hello
Hello Francesca. I just found your podcast on my feed and I've enjoyed it immensely. I'm sure you'll enjoy being home again and I bet your parents are happy you're back. I like your knitting projects and am looking forward to following your future podcasts. Good luck! I may have missed this, but where in Italy are you? My daughter and her family lived in Bologna for two years.
I live very close to Bologna actually, what a coincidence! Thank you so much for your support. My parents and extended family in general are indeed so very happy we’re back. They’ve been supporting us constantly, especially with the baby. Grandparents are truly a blessing! Hope to see you here again in the future. In the meantime, happy knitting
@@AnItalianKnitter That is a coincidence! I enjoyed my visits to Bologna and the surrounding area . In addition to the delicious food, I loved visiting local yarn shops. I remember particularly shopping at Il Filarino and Atelier Della Lana in the city. The owners were lovely to me. My daughter eventually came back to the US, for which I am happy. But I do miss those visits to Italy!
Hi Dorothy, I did 44 stitches for my daughter’s socks (www.ravelry.com/projects/engfragui/babys-striped-socks). For comparison, I knit socks for myself with 60 stitches and for my husband 68-70. I remember that in the beginning I actually tried with 38 for my daughter and knitted the entire cuff, but when I tried them on her they were too tight around her cute little calf/ankle so I frogged everything and started again with 44. Hope this helps a little bit, but I would still recommend to try on a partial sock on the baby before finishing it up (if possible) so that you’re sure it’s not too tight. Good luck!
Ciao Francesca, congrats on your new channel! stavo cercando delle recensioni/info sui maglioni di petite knit e mi sei apparsa tu :-) I know you want to work on your English so I can write in English if you prefer (ma sono italiana). Yes, it's really nice to see them on you because we can get a better idea of how they are, which is difficult when you only see something held up. Your knits are great and fit you really well! I am wondering about which one of the sweaters to make, I wanted to start with a really simple one to try out her patterns, I thought about trying the novice sweater, at the moment I am looking at my yarn stash and trying to find out if I have something with the right gauge...how is the drops yarn? is it itchy in any way? looking forward to your next podcasts! 🌷oh and the hat is cute, I am sure somebody would love to have it if you do not like it for yourself, but it could be a fun experiment to try and felt it and find out what happens!
Ciao! I was so happy when I saw the notification. My first ever comment on my knitting podcast! I'm going to write in English just in case others are reading and might find these info useful. I'm glad you appreciated my try-it-on skills. I wasn't the most graceful in putting those garments on and off honestly haha. Looking at my Ravelry projects, I've (apparently) knitted a lot of PetiteKnit patterns and liked the majority of them. I like that the instructions are straight to the point and concise, but some beginner knitters on their first sweater found her patterns maybe too concise. My first sweater of all time was her No Frills Sweater and I loved the instructions. I had to find a video tutorials for a couple of things (German short rows and picking up stitches in the armpit area for the sleeves) but I actually liked that and I feel like it was the chance to learn a lot of new knitting "tricks"! Her more recent Novice Cardigan and Novice Sweater have a few more details (they explain more things) and are based on more basic techniques (i.e. there are no short rows in the yoke and no decreases in the sleeves nor body). This said, since you mentioned you're looking for a very simple sweater to make, I would indeed recommend the Novice Sweater. I think this will give you a lot of motivation to move onto more complicated garments. I think the No Frills Sweater would be a nice second sweater for you! I might wear mine in my next episode so that you can "see it in action"! As for the Drops yarn, I've used a few (i.e. Drops Flora, Drops Air) and none of them are itchy in any way. Drops Air seems to "pill" a little bit, probably because it's so soft and fuzzy. I will gladly knit more projects with it though, both because it's affordable and also because it's soft (have I said that already? lol). Sorry for the LONG answer but I figured you would appreciate that since your comment was very thoughtful. Thank you for taking the time to write it. It made my day.
@@AnItalianKnitter ciao Francesca!! thank you for your detailed answer, it is very helpful to learn more and more hands on, from direct experience of others. I am (also? I think I remembered you saying that) self taught from the internet and knitting in a vacuum can be hard...will take your precious info into account..wishing you all the best on your new podcast adventure! 💐
Hello Marise! Thank you for watching my first episode. So exciting! I lived and worked in California for the past 8 years or so. I also always watched A LOT of tv shows from the US or UK in their original language and often read books in English, plus a lot of RUclips in English (knitting podcasts as you can imagine!, book reviews, etc). I'm not sure if this is your case, but you want to practice a language, I think finding some sort of video (i.e. tv show, RUclips) is the way to go. So fun but also useful!
Hi Flora, for the past few years I’ve been using Chiaogoo circular needles. I have the interchangeable set. They are metal (not wood) and I absolutely love them. I feel like I can knit fairly fast (the yarn glides on the needles very well) and I like the convenience of interchangeable (I don’t need to buy needles in all the different cable lengths and also I can switch the cable length on the same pair of needles when I want). I also own Lykke interchangeables (wooden) but I find that they slow me down a tiny bit compared to my metal ones and I’m not as fast. Are you looking for some new needles? Thanks for stopping by 👋🏼
I love this episode and will watch your others as well. We have met during knit night this week so nice to see your podcast. If you would want to see mine, it's called 'Just Delphine', my English isn't perfect either but well, it's fun to do ;-)

I feel the same way about socks 😁😁😁😁. I rather knit hats and fingerless mitts.
YES! 💯
Hi Francesca, well done; I enjoyed your podcast. Where did you learn English? Mari
Please tell us what needles you use for your projects
Thanks for stopping by 👋🏼
Francesca ho trovato 2 pattern x calze dove non devi fare il tallone….
❤🌈🧶
I love this episode and will watch your others as well. We have met during knit night this week so nice to see your podcast. If you would want to see mine, it's called 'Just Delphine', my English isn't perfect either but well, it's fun to do ;-)
Hi Delphine! I recognize your name from the Zoom call 👋🏼 Thank you for stopping by. I will definitely check out your podcast and also hope to see you at next night knit too (if I manage to stay awake; I feel like towards the end I was more or less knitting with my eyes closed - so sleepy!).
Stai valutando i podcast in italiano? Ciao 👋🏻
Ciao Stefania! Io ho imparato a lavorare a maglia in inglese e non ne so neanche uno dei termini in italiano quindi credo mi troverei un po’ in difficoltà 😬 Un saluto!
@@AnItalianKnitter ciao cara! A presto e buona maglia!
