My last year of High School was in 73 and we bought a new house in National City, approximately 11 miles from SDHS. Since I was now a senior I was allowed to finish there, so I bought a 72 Varsity and rode back and forth, rain or shine. Man I could ride like the wind back then.😎
'71 - '74 rode my Sierra Brown Varsity everywhere until I got my first car. Spring Valley to Balboa Park on Saturdays. I now have a '71 Brown Sports Tourer. Love old Schwinns.
I was a high school senior in 1972 in Philadelphia. I bought a Schwinn Collegiate. I didn’t drive so I rode that bike back and forth to college at Temple University, straight up Broad Street.
Great video I got a classic Schwinn on a roadside give away. Man was I struggling with it yesterday. It mainly started with the chain/ installing derailleur cause I didn't know you had to use a chain breaker. You showed me the way ha ha. I am going to maybe see how the og chain does on there? I got new rubber on the 27" and would like to threw some grease in that crank. I will report back on the crank bearing and maybe a first ride. Update cleaned the bearing in the crank without pulling them all the way out and greased them . Went on a nice bike path ride to.
I get the same results without a disassemble. I didnt see any steel wool or metal polish for the components or any car wax for the frame. You finished the video by wrapping the handlebars backwards.
That top tube decal does not look like a factory 1979 Varsity decal. That crank and sprocket is definitely not factory Schwinn. It looks like it came off a Ross Europa from the time.

Also at 8:06, you toss a shift lever. I need that lever bracket! It’s broken on a Schwinn Subarban I’m fixing up!
Just picked up an Orange 71' Varsity Sport for $40; this video is very helpful, thank you for the upload.

Love it brotha,, you did tremendous; but name of track pls?
Why not slow down and show the detail of putting the grip wrap around the brake assembly... It would help immensely...
beautiful. but you need practice putting grip tape on properly.

What paint are you using? I have an original traveler and I polished all the components and would like to re-touch the frame as well.
I used Testers Paint (brite blue) , to touch up the paint. I didn’t paint it all since I liked the orinal color.
Damnnnnn
Hi, how would I find out what chain to get?
no mire que engrasaras los ejes ni los pedales. lo demás muy bien
