As a heads up i've realised some people are using the TDC action toggle button, this is currently NOT functional, insure you use the TDC Down / Action button. Additinally TDC Slew via an axis is also non functional, use a hat switch for slew controls
yes, same here, when I pickle in AUTO mode, vertical line on the HUD disappears and I have 4 lines on the HUD and no bombs are dropped. I thought I was mistaking something ...
@@racingtheweb It's a bug and is already fixed internally and should be in the Wednesday patch. Don't have the source though (look in the Razbam forum)
dude an asymmetric load on this thing is insane....i was trying hard to control her too and she just belly flops right over and starts rolling towards the ground can't do anything to recover it either. how did u trim it I can't seem to get the trim to work correctly
Trim won't solve the issue, simply stop it rolling over on it's own. You need to be light with the inputs and turn with the heavy wing down to make it easier to turn, always release weapons in pairs if you can. It's a small jet so the weapons make a big difference to it's centre of gravity.
Do we agree that Ripple release doesn't work? What ever spacing, N/T, nose or tail setting, they all fall together. As well as the MK82AIR don't seem to drop either.
Awacs doesn't provide lasing, their job is to track aircraft and manage the airspace, generally that'l be guiding aircraft onto hostiles to engage them. You're looking for Jtac, which is setup by the mission creator, then you contact them on the radio, as shown in my laser guided bombing tutorials
Wow, i didn't knew the pipper needed to be solid... Thanks! Finally i can do some precision bombing, and not hope it hits proper. Is it btw bound to your angle of attack or just your altitude?
Thanks for your well thought out and edited tutorials on the AV-8B N/A so far, could we get a tutorial on how to get the FLIR on the HUD? and maybe a startup for the current build? thanks!
My next planned video is on the internal sensors of the harrier, so the DMT, LST, NAVFLIR (and hud projection) and NVG's, I would like to cover the Tpod too but it's not functional enough yet to be worth covering, it'l get its own video when they've updated it.
This tutorial should be remade to reflect the correctly modeled targeting systems, as it was wrong back the time this was made. Example the AUTO mode is like this, but the bombs fall line doesn't swing like that, instead it is far steadier and usable actually. And CCIP mode is completely different. The CCIP reticle never leaves the HUD, it will stay at the bottom even when your bombs would fall below your HUD. That is why the crosshair is not solid (instead dotted) as it is signaling that impact point is below the aircraft, and then drop line has a horizontal line to present visually how far it is below the HUD. But the key difference is that the dotted crosshair is CCRP designator, so you can place that on top of the target, press and hold release button and you have designated that position as CCRP and you are automatically switched to AUTO mode, so you can perform the level bombing, lofting etc. But sadly lofting etc is not yet modeled (March. 2020, should get finished this year).
Hi, For the MK20, there is a special procedure? I tried CCIP, AUTO and DSL but it still falls before the (fixed) targets. I have to use a special "FUZ"?
I do not believe there is a special fusing, i think the bomb prediction doesn't account for the change in aerodynamics once the mk20 airbursts. Hopefully it will be resolved.
Nice video. Picked up the general operation watching your videos if the harrier good work. Showing my inexperience here. How come you released the bombs when the pipper had passed over the target. I noticed the cross went passed the target then you said pickle. It works as your very precise haha
Me saying pickle and actually pushing the button will not be perfectly in sync, between a slight de-sync in audio recording but also because i might be early / late in saying it myself. i aim to push the pickle button just a moment before the pipper crosses the target, to allow for the delay in both reaction time and the physical action of pushing the switch.
RedKite ahhh I didn’t think of that. Yeah very true, hoping to practice the harrier more tonight and get the mavs and target pod a go. If I survive the entourage of migs in the mirage first.
Also do you find the dmt and irmv process aren’t currently working? I followed your video, slew dmt, uncage agm65-e, sensor forward, tdc down. Just can’t get lock or fire them. Yet slew the mavs themselves lock and fire right away. So not sure if tpod is broken too
AGM-65e is a laser designated mav, it requires a laser marker to use them, from either another aircraft or a ground unit. TPOD is a little dysfunctional, personally i'l use the dmt with mavs, or go visual.
RedKite thanks for he reply. From my finidings there’s 2 variants at the minute E being one of them. I notice in the stores page the E’s show as IRMV. I need check the other variant to check it’s not me then haha. Been going red in the face following your videos and it not working haha
Its the systems fault for ccrp not being accurate for unguided munitions considering its not going to be perfect since theres wind and turbulence making the aircraft move.
You see, i would agree but, there was no wind, i was bombing from low alt and the ARBS system is meant to be reasonably accurate, i find the A-10c is much easier to perform ccrp accurately with. I find the symbology very twitchy and sometimes even what looked like a perfect drop infact lands way off from what id expect. So i suspect there may still be some calibration on the arbs needed.
Buddy lasing is pretty simple, il consider it for a future video but requiring two people to record it makes it a little tricky. If you watch the jtac/laser guided section, it's exactly the same process for the harrier. As for the a-10c pinky switch enables the laser, it wont fire if an m is shown (laser masked by frame) and insure it's in laser mode, laser field of view is best directly in front and below the aircraft, if you're orbiting it's best to point your underside towards the target via a roll whilst lasing, or go head on as the harrier starts it's run.
The dashed cross in CCIP doesn't mean it is inaccurate and solid they it is accurate. The dashed vs solid cross means are you in CCRP or CCIP modes. The dashed is CCRP The solid is CCIP The HUD is not complete. The dashed cross should never leave the bottom of HUD, so you can always see it. All you need to do is to fly and place it above target and hold pickle and then fly by guidance to CCRP. The inaccuracy comes from ARBS not ready. That system is most accurate way to do dumb bomb dropping, being far more accurate than ie. F/A-18 A-G radar ranging or TGP/TPOD laser ranging. It takes all aircraft flight parameters as input and the angle of rate change for targeting and generate a very accurate release solution. The same thing is done by a Soviet aircrafts, but even those ain't simulated correctly. That is one thing harrier has as benefit on Western side. So to repeat, you should see a dashed cross at bottom of screen, fly to position it over target and hold pickle and you are now in CCRP mode. When cross is solid, you are in CCIP mode. No need to swap modes as automatic mode does that for you need when you press release.
So i am trying to make a custom mission where i use the gpu-12s so I have to put a friendly A-10c to the jdam. The problem is that i dont find any jdam task on the task menu.
I'm assuming you mean JTAC? I've never tried setting up an aircraft in such a role, but aircraft have different waypoint tasks depending on their role, there should be a role called fac available (forward air controller ) this may have the ability to perform jtac actions.
The screens were originally grey as a limitation of DCS, they are green in reality, there is no option to change it. This feature was added since recording the video.
Could you clarify what you're doing that leads to the issue? If the auto/ccip hud symbology is not appearing, insure you're in air to ground master mode, master arm on and try toggling the release mode by pressing the uncage button if it's still not present.
If you're not familiar with the basic hotas controls then i suggest you watch my cockpit familiarisation video. It's needless to slow this video down to show you the physical buttons when im saying their names out loud.
If only I could find the damn release button -.- Firing missiles & cannon is easy, but I can't find the damn bomb & rocket release button in the menu. EDIT: Turns out it was under the HOTAS menu, no clue how I missed it in there.
Esp. when you've perhaps been up a little longer than you should've ;) Also key mapping is always the most tedious process in DCS, my goodness how I loath it haha :D
Oh I agree, that was horrible! The main problem was/is also really that I haven't flown in DCS for about a year until yesterday, so I've been having to start remembering and re-learning a lot of the things all over again :D It's coming along nicely now though, esp. thanks to your great tutorial videos which I really appreciate :)

Have they made any changes to that? If this sentence is true, you have just saved me SO much headache.
That ending was 10/10
yeah, who hasn't collided with their own bombs at one time or another?
Only just started DCS beginning sept , have the Harrier ,lots to learn , thanks great vid :)
Cheers Wolvinstar, hope you find my videos useful, its a daunting task learning your first plane. Good luck!
Your videos are doing great! So clear! Easy ! Good job keep them coming
Spent the day trying to figure this out. Well done and bravo here. I am subscribing and hoping to see more tutorials about unwinding the Harrier.
Thank you! I plan to cover all the main systems of the harrier, next up being the internal sensors on the harrier.
Look how far the Harrier has come!
Why am I getting 4 dashed lines on the HUD when i press the pickle button in AUTO mode and why does it say "BAUT" on my HUD and not AUTO? please help!
same issue, cannot auto bomb at all, no referenes about that online, also cannot get the flir on the hud (hud in night mode)

Glad to be of help
Super impressed by that self bomb at the end. Never seen that before.
I appreciated the actual information as well. Subbed.
That's why you never bomb under negative G's! bomb slides up the underside of the wing and can damage it / fall back ontop of you
Awesome again sooo wish we had these videos in early access on the A10c.
RedKite thx for the vids. Like said below, very clear and informative. Please keep up the good work.
Do we agree that Ripple release doesn't work? What ever spacing, N/T, nose or tail setting, they all fall together.
As well as the MK82AIR don't seem to drop either.
Yes, quite a lot of things either dont work quite right, or are missing i'l be updating videos as the harrier develops
You're a great instructor,sir.
Hi many thanks for the excellent tutorials. Can I just ask how do you summon the awax for the laser targeting. Thanks in advance.

My bomb fall line in CCRP isnt showing up after I designated a target.
Any clues? Switching to CCIP works just fine.
Great tutorials. Very well produced. Happy bombing indeed!
Lol. The self destruct procedure at the end was a hoot :-)

Rockeyes are employed exactly the same as standard bombs, there's no need for another tutorial.
Great job on the videos.. very clear on what to do and very well explained. Thx liked and sub 👍🏻
I always thought CC stood for "Continously calculated" :)
You may be right, it's been a while since i've seen it as anything other than ccip/ccrp haha, same end effect though.
I could be extra finicky and say it actually means "Continuously Computed..." but I guess calculation is computing. Tomayto/Tomarto kinda deal ;)
Rick, if you wish to use computed, then it should be "Constantly computed". :) There's double extra finickyness for ya! Right there! :)
Dug up a little bit. It seems the "Constantly" is used for CCIP and "Continuosly" for CCRP. Go figure. :)

Hope you are around when we get the F-14 / F-18Great Videos.
Il cover them most likely, we'l have to see how expensive they are, if ive got to choose, it'l be the f/a-18c
