As a civilian in a military family this hits hard. I’ve seen this stuff first hand, I get why he did it, and while I don’t agree with burning his uniform, sometimes a grand gesture like that is the only way to get entitled civilians to pay attention to the shit they put veterans through. The way the court treated him is exactly the same way veterans have been treated for a long time after returning home from combat. And is one of the reasons I’ll never judge an angry Vietnam vet.
Shit they still don't really take of the their people The VA hasn't gotten much better, my dad finally got appointment after like 8 years of trying and he served 7 years My buddy is in the airforce now and they had to sign paperwork saying they aren't allowed to sue the airforce because the jet fuel they were using for bombers cause audio dyslexia, oh but the VA will take care of them still later on, once they are close to death already lol XD My buddy does have mild audio dyslexia now too

This had got to hit hard for veterans who felt betrayed and disrespected by their own country... Its like the feeling like you're just a disposable tool to them smh :(
He probably would've shot Karen in the face if commanded. Idk why people defend him. He whines. He uses his service to pull rank on civilians. And he burns his uniform instead of fighting the verdict. Americans need to join militias instead of the military.
Take a look at what Jameson Travels said about this one. He gives you a really insightful/balanced opinion that can give you a better idea of why this man was so angry.
The military’s leadership treats you like shit, and then civilians treat you like shit. Is it any wonder vets, especially those who were in combat, un-alive themselves? I hate my service and I was only on the reserve side. I donated my uniforms, wanted to throw them in the garbage initially but just donated them.

Enlisting into infantry or any combat role (well if its been decided) is you signed up for. All the shit he's been through is what he got, and many others been through the same, I respect him 100% for that. But you having to rethink all of it because it is dangerous is up to you, but know that's how its always been since the vietnam war and before. What happens after is just pure bad luck with the justice system. PTSD is also something to look out for and you don't know how much it'll affect a person. I lost my repsect for him after he burned the uniform and gave a false meaning to it (like stated in the video) and spat basically at all of us in the name of us not serving.
From what I remember about this case, the prosecution used the fact that he was receiving mental help for PTSD as reason to back up the woman's claims. I personally wouldn't burn my uniform but I feel like burning the flag would more accurately show his anger.
Burning the flag is NEVER a thing any American soldier would do as his brother come home under them. HIS Uniform is HIS service and it shows that he was pissed on by those who did this to him so he is pissing on it himself so others can no longer do it to him.. NEVER burn a flag. Foolish remark.
A 101st Airborne guy wouldn't have a bit of trouble mauling a 50-60 yr old woman. It's just insane, there's no way to rationalize it. Chased her around with a knife and "tried"? Give me a damn break.
That’s what I was thinking as he was telling the story. If he wanted to hurt an old woman like that, he would have been able to. Disgusting how she spun it
Don't know what the situation is with UK vets, but US veterans being backstabbed by their own government or people after coming back from war is a common occurrence here. Soldiers will come back with PTSD or Depression or Anxiety, and end up being either abandoned by the VA, or have their guns taken from them for them being a "danger to themselves". Veterans are given physical or mental damage while in the military, then punished for it by the legal system.
His business what he did why don’t you leave him alone did you walk in his shoes shame on you we stand by what he did God bless him have 4 service people in our family.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I had my grandfather tell me about his fellow Marines getting in fights defending their brothers after Vietnam, all because media caught a cia mission gone sour and labeled everybody involved "Baby Killers", it's heartbreaking hearing him talk about it compared to every other story he has of his time in the corps.
My heart goes out to all veterans. Iv seen how they were and are treated. These ppl are heroes that allow me to raise my family safe. Pls help them. Understand the pain they are in. Damn I'm not even a soldier and I had feels... this must have killed him to do... shit, he earned that uniform and has earned the right to do what he did...
As a civilian, I fully appreciate your Veterans. I have a brother and many friends that are Vets and I can't imagine what some of those people have been through. We don't take good enough care of them IMO. I guess his gesture(as hard as it was to watch) is better than swallowing the barrel of a gun. I hope he can find peace and get past it.

Hell yeah. From what he said in this video it would be nice to here him talk about it in one of his mental health updates. Of course only if he thinks it will help himself and others.
Well he worked for that uniform, he fought, bled and saw his friends die in combat. He has the right to burn that uniform because he fought for other so he has the right to do this.
I feel really bad for the guy if his story is as he says it is, that would be unbelievably discouraging watching some lady win a court battle like that using lies and a judge with no regard for the man and his service and the law in general. However I don’t see the correlation between a civilian court and his military service and how it comes into play that he would burn his uniform. I mean I understand the lack of support vets get that would make him so upset but idk. I hope he’s doing alright.
I am deeply sad to see this veteran burn his uniform that represents everything meaningful to his life and what impacted him. I can’t say I understand him because I haven’t served. I want to enter the Marine Corps. following the footsteps of my dad who served as a combat engineer in the Marine Corps. during Vietnam War. I always heard of how horrible the war was for him and how he never returned home the same as he shipped out. I know I will go into something that will not be easy but I want to make my dad proud of me while is not alive as I speak. For any veterans I care for you and deeply respect you guys. People who haven’t served and never will won’t understand you all and take for granted what you guys do. I am sorry for what you guys have to go through. I hope for veterans and active members of the military to prosper in life and be supported by many people.

Williams seems to have been through a lot, and this was the breaking point. While I don’t agree in burning the uniform, but I won’t shun him for it.
After 12 yrs of service as a Ranger I know how he feels and why he made it personal by burning his uniform - he could have burned the flag. Wake up people or there wont be any more volunteers tp do your dirty work.
Dude. @ 6:24 If your comrades are represented by that uniform then him burning it reflects what is HAPPENING TO THEM! Use em up and toss them away. “The US government cares for its soldiers the same way Michael Vick cares for his dogs.” I remember someone saying that. Fuck!

That was tough to watch. My wife and I work with vets, mostly Marines, to provide resume building and interview skills to help acquire civilians jobs. We can do much better at how we treat returning Veterans. I do have one issue with this man’s actions. His anger, albeit justified in this case, is being painted with a broad brush. Not all Americans turned their back on him. One civilian and one judge acted poorly. To blame all Americans is not fair to the ones who truly care do their best to look out for Veterans after returning home. At the end of the day, everyone’s PTSD and emotional state is their own. My PTSD from working the streets as an EMT is different from yours, Lucas and yourself is unique from this guy’s. I only wish he would have reached out in a different way. Maybe the amount of compassion for his story would have been something he could have leaned on. Thanks for sharing. Glad to see you are feeling better! ✌️
He is right, because this country is going to hell in a hand basket because of crooked and corrupt judges and DAs, and of course the politicians. I'm a 20 year vet. I watched the original video. I agree with what he saying in regards to how the US deal with it veterans. I would never burn my uniforms because they represent the time I serverd and the experience. I also understand his frustration... I think there can be definitely a better way! My heart goes out because I've lost friends in the military and had my struggles. People get accused and convicted of crimes they don't commit all the time. He ha to except that... he doesn't have to take his mistreatment (if true) and he needs to fight back legally. If this is actually real it hurts my heart as a 20 year vet because it's been out here and still going on.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but according to "Finding Your Father's War" you can easily get the purple heart medal back... you just need to provide your details and possibly pay a small fee, and hope that the previous records weren't lost in the giant fire the records keeping place had in the 70s or 80s. I could very well be wrong, so if I am, let me know. (Unless he was speaking metaphorically about how to GET a purple heart.)
I believe it's the idea.... The gesture of how he won't get that back. You know he sure AF won't buy one. He earned it I'm sure that is the only only one that man would ever have.... And he burned it.
You can get a replacement from the DoD once per lifetime, and only once, irregardless of circumstances. But it's not the same. Your original decorations will always have more meaning, being the one's pinned on you by a commanding officer when first awarded. I lost all of mine in a house fire on January 5th of this year. They can be replaced, but it's just not quite the same. So most vets would understand how hard that was to do, no matter if you agree with his actions or not. It is a significant gesture to me anyway.
My heart breaks for this man, but no matter how bad I was feeling about things, I couldn't burn my uniform and my medals. I worked my ass off for that stuff!!! You need to get help. I don't talk crap about people like you, I have the utmost respect for you and all of the other military people around the world. I think you all are just so awsome at protecting us night and day. As somebody going into the army and in a family with many veterans it breaks my heart. I personally hope that judge gets thrown in jail or prison for doing that and ignoring the law.
So you hope a judge gets thrown in jail because you've heard one person's side of the story? He could easily be lying for all you know, especially with the sort of negative personality traits he's already putting on display. I have more faith in the judicial system's judgment than this guy's.

The military do the things others will never do and when you fight watch comrades die and if they dont they get treated like shit....its heart breaking
I think the reason why he burnt the uniform is because he was proudful of it, that badge the uniform itself made him feel prideful, but when trying to fit back into society, and being stabbed in the back and many of his comrades taking their lives cause of this, he just lost pride in his country, his uniform symbolising his country and wat he fought for and sees it as smth disgusting a regret for fighting for a system that backstabs him.
I'm not a veteran myself but have several friends who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan over the years so I've seen what it's like for so many of these guys coming back. It also seems like this guy has a lot of built up anger already and this court case was just the breaking point.
This has been discussed a lot by me and those in the military. We all think it's a case of stolen valor. First, claims he left as a E5, after 12 years. 12 years and still an E5?? The left sleeve claims he served 12 years. Yet only 3 hash marks on that sleeve. Which would mean 9 years. 2nd, Claims he won the Purple Heart. He does [in a Purple Heart medal to the uniform before lighting it on fire. BUT, No Purple Heart ribbon. The Purple Heart ribbon is to be on the right side, top right as well. Which can mean he bought the medal at a pawn shop, which he does mention it can be done. But we feel he didn't get the ribbon with it. There are other inconsonances as well. Not to mention, if what he claims happened to him. Why did he accept it and not take it to a higher court? The charges against him were illegal. To many WTH moments with his post.
I mean we know his name, face, state and county. Is there any way we can look up his past and see if it was stolen valor or not because I’m pretty sure that’s illegal.
Burning his uniform seems to be the only thing he can do to make a statement. Unfortunately, this guy is otherwise powerless to do something about the situation. It's an unfortunate fact that there are a lot of 'activist judges' in this country, who are more concerned with 'making a statement' and listening to emotion-based arguments than doing what is just and right by the laws they are sworn to uphold. I feel for this guy. He was told he had a duty to defend his country, and that it was for the good of the people he left back home, only to return home to him and end up being treated like trash because society at large consider soldiers like him (and men in general) as disposable. In the US, you are supposed to have the right to defend your property, and those you invite onto it. This includes telling people who are not invited to leave. Even police officers or government officials are legally not allowed onto someone's private property without a warrant or immediate danger to another. Even if he did threaten her with a knife, legally he still did nothing wrong. I'm not sure about the state he's living in, but in mine, there's something called the 'Castle' law, which states that if you believe someone unwelcomed on your property is a threat to yourself or others, you have the right to defend yourself and your family from them, up to and including a threat of deadly force. It's why you don't go wandering through someone's yard without permission unless you're fine with getting shot. Unfortunately there's groups in this country who are constantly trying to get these rights removed. That's not what this guy served in the military to protect, so I don't blame him for feeling that his country has been lying to him this whole time.
As someone who has never served, (debating enlistment though) I cannot relate to this man's issues. However, as someone who has mental disorders, including those that can cause heightened aggression, suicidal thoughts, homicidal thoughts, and having what can only be described as, my fight or flight response is stuck in fight. With all of this, I CAN relate. I am too afraid to admit most of these disorders simply due to the bias people have. I own knives and firearms, but I won't tell the proper people to help me if I feel suicidal or homicidal thoughts because even if I still have full control of my mental state, and have ways to get help, they will confiscate my knives and firearms. In the state I live in, if a concerned citizen in relation to me, (ie, friend, therapist, or family) contacts police about this, they will not only forcibly confiscate, but also require me to prove in a court of law that I am of sound mind within six months or they will PERMANENTLY confiscate them. Will I see reimbursement for the thousands I've spent on them? No. A prime example of mental illness bias, is when I was in highschool I had an altercation with a police officer. I am high functioning autistic, this means that unless I tell you or you have a psychology background you wouldn't notice. During the incident, my guidance counselor, (who both had access to and KNEW I was autistic and knew my disorders) wrongfully told the police officer that I was ODD, (which can be oversimplified to asshole just to be an asshole) so he came in screaming at me while I was speaking calmly and not interrupting him. Unnecessary yelling and interrupting me cause my fight response. After several minutes of this, I was going to hit something. Him, a wall, something. So I hit a wall, shouted at him and was tackled to the ground. Even the other police officer once he arrived stated on record, "both the guidance counselor who gave a wrongful diagnosis to officer ***, and the officer himself, handled the situation poorly. If officer *** had listened to the individual, who up until the end, was acting in a calm, cooperative manner, instead of yelling at him and denying him the ability to explain in said manner, this entire situation could have been avoided. I strongly recommend that no charges be placed on the individual in question, and that if the family decides to sue for compensation all demands should be given and settled out of court." Sorry for the long post, long story short, while I am not a veteran, I stand with those who are wrongfully marked as dangerous due to mental illness bias. Thus causing them to avoid help, knowing that anything they ask for help with will be used against them.

I do agree with you Luke. What I feel and others feel may be different, but I feel the uniform represents the full cycle meaning The work you put in to get there, the current those in currently, and the vets for the future. Not only the ones alive everyone wears a uniform, those from previous battles, the ones alive for the current ones, and the next generation of soilders will as well be wearing uniforms. So I feel that a uniform just like the flag should be held with high respect, sadly not everyone shares my views.
Vitriol against the veterans is very brutal in the States. I know because I genuinely hate war and have learned the truths in my time besmirching servicemen. Don't serve a dying nation, that's all I can say.
I'm not going to lie, I felt the same way from several experiences in my past. I am also sure there are more to come. But what this guy should do is try to get the ruling overruled by another court/ judge. Though, burning the uniform is probably one of the most honorable ways to dispose of a uniform. With that aside, it is sad to watch this. I do agree that the U.S. needs to take better care of the Veterans, like him, like myself, etc. I will say, the system is broken. I do see and understand where he is coming from. Not the best way to go about it.
It was seemingly a very necessary method of him making a profound statement regarding a grave injustice he feels was done to him by his own nation & people... If he is in the right, then it is a valid reason to do it.
I feel when someone tells a story like this (the incident with the woman) you are never told all the info. If you know what I mean? That if you were there standing watching it you would see something different from what is being told to you later on after the fact.

I feel like the uniform means different things for different people. I've never worn the uniform so I can't speak from personal experience but I know for people like my father it represents him doing what he felt he needed to do
My mother served about four to eight years in the military, around the early 2000's. She was deployed in Iraq. I showed this video to her, she was incredibly sympathetic for him. She has been in jail, not for the same reasons, but she did feel betrayed when she was locked up. A veteran fighting for her country, only to be put behind bars. She told me, and I quote; “That woman wronged him, but he wronged himself even more.”
Unfortunately, that young man learned the hard way something I've known for decades. In America, if you die serving your country, you get shown a massive amount of respect during your funeral and burial. If you live.... you get treated like garbage. It's easy to deal with a dead hero. One who is alive, suffering from PTSD? Waiting around far too long for the V.A. to help them. Most folks not wanting to deal with them because they genuinely struggle to integrate back into Society. Sometimes even their own family members don't want to deal with their issues. Even worse, they reach out for help; in some states the first thing that gets done is they lose their guns. Doesn't matter if they never threatened anyone with them. Doesn't matter that they never talked about harming themselves. None of that matters. So, a lot of veterans who truly need help, don't bother asking for it. A dead hero is a lot easier to deal with than a living one.
This Veteran is Absolutely right, The people that did this to him never spent a day in combat boots, they have not got a clue or care of the Sacrifices, blood, sweat, and tears this Man gave for the USA. The people that caused this demanded this soldiers respect and gave zero in return. Shame on them for turning an Honorable Proud American Soldier into this, Unforgivable America.
It is super hard to watch the uniform burn. You know what it takes to earn the right to wear it. What each of those ribbons stand for what it took to get that purple heart. Sadly these grand gestures are the only thing that gets people's attention most the time. Soldiers and Veterans are too often used as talking points but rarely are they seen as individuals. Society has this idea that they are made for war, that some how they are both above and below civilians. We say "thank you for your service" then shit talk what they do. We say " PTSD is real" but act like it's just a phase they will grow out of. We say "go and kill for us" but don't bring any of that aggression home.
It can be a very hard blow when a veteran is made to realize the country he served is not the country he thought it was but instead is a misandric matriarchy.
I agree, the uniforms do represent the soldiers who fought beside you and the brunch you service...... So burning it was a mistake in my eyes but that might be the only way for him to get his words in
I once had a Vietnam veteran explain to a civilian at an airport, “to be worthy of my blood that is spilt on the battleground be a worthy American citizen!”
I am no military person, never served etc., but my dad was in SF in my country. I have a great interest in military, and as far as I understand and feel, that the uniform is a sign of patriotism, it shows your belonging to your country, it means that you potentially have risked your life doing your duty where country has sent you, and you did it for whatever the reason, but this guy did it for his country. Uniform represents it all, especially patriotism, your allegiance to your country, to its ideals. Of course...at the end soldier is a soldier, fighting battles you didn't wanted because of leaders and politicians, but you still fought those battles for your country. But this uniform is not the uniform you wear when going on battles, this is a ceremonial official suit. You see this uniform as simply uniform that belong to the section within army and nothing more, like colors, red is red, blue is blue, purple is purple, and nothing more. For this guy, the uniform means pretty much what I wrote above. Like he said himself, he put on everything on that uniform, the fact that it means so much to him is the reason why he does it and why he considers burning an uniform the definitive statement for a soldier as a peaceful protest.
I see the guys point, Ive never served but I’m someone who comes from a military family- i’ve seen peoples demeanor changed I’ve known people who have family member(s) went off and got deployed and never came back. But I do agree that burning your uniform is a bit much and blaming it on everybody isn’t going to solve the issue.
I am in America but I would never treat veterans like this. Never. When I see them on the streets it makes me so sad 😞. We need to stand up to this government Bc I am angry that people in America are ignorant
First thanks for your honorable service. I think this is an age gap difference. We grew up early 80s more brainwashed by the community to believe that the system is ultimately working for the good, but he got caught in the cheap, spineless domestic games allowed to play out. Thank you for highlighting that the uniform is for those on the ground, this makes sense to stay connected. The US needs some type of badge vets can wear every day to get the community appreciation they deserve.
I understand what he's trying to say, but not all of us civilians "sit on our asses" while y'all are out there, I wanted to join the marines and it was my dream to wear the uniform, but when I turned 18 I found out that my history with asthma disqualified me. I really wish he would blame nothing on the whole of the us, and everything on the ones that caused him that pain.
Just don't join the US army or marines, or you will get the same treat as this veteran. I respect US army and Marines that put their lives to fight the war for their country in the name of freedom and peace.
I get what you mean about it maybe not being the right way to go about it by burning it, but at the end of the way what a lot of vets may or may not understand is that civies think of a uniform as a representation of their country. It doesn't matter whether you do or don't cause that's the what I call 'outer optics,' or basically what a person would think a lut by looking at you. No disrespect because I believe uniforms have both meanings to a certain extent but you gotta remember that when normal people see US uniforms they don't think about symbolizing your squads, they think about symbolizing their own land, politics, representation overseas or force. Burning the uniform is showing civilians that betrayal while also telling others in service or other veterans to not put their lives on the line blindly because the system will almost always try to protect itself instead of its people nowadays in particular. If it means anything to you, he probably still loves America as how its supposed to work. The problem is, the way it's supposed to work and how it operates is getting further and further away recently. This is just my opinion from experience and observations so if anyone has a different outlook feel free.

I strongly recommend that no charges be placed on the individual in question, and that if the family decides to sue for compensation all demands should be given and settled out of court."
Sorry for the long post, long story short, while I am not a veteran, I stand with those who are wrongfully marked as dangerous due to mental illness bias. Thus causing them to avoid help, knowing that anything they ask for help with will be used against them.

That pirson diserves rispect and that woman diserves the disrispect and no love from every body.
This is one of the strongest statements ever made. It should all make us wonder into what America has become.
Old lady was an karen

i think burning his uniform burning was representing his friends who took their own lives
It definitely was a grand gesture because he’s still wearing patriotic clothes
_please_ tell us you mean the cap...
@@seand.g423 do you not see the flag on his sweater and the job patches?
@@seand.g423 The cap? There's nothing patriotic about emblazoning a gun onto our flag. It's more disrespectful than anything else.
Converting a school bus?! Where can I get a school bus?!?
Why ain’t this guy on 1M subs yet?
