I kinda get the idea. So basically I need a number system, which I have major system, the alphabet POA which I also have and make a statue which has the letters as well? Was there anything else I'm missing?
Possibly. Apart from the other systems I mentioned in the video, there are the matters of goals and results. I didn't include them here because of the free will issue, but they're important too.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM oh okay. :) as for the figures portion, I'm kinda understanding that better. :) I'm just trying to find. Good way to use it, would that be good if a random word I'm trying to learn for vietnamese pops up and I could use the statue for a temporary palace before I decide to put it in that memory palace or something else?
Excellent video! Language and logic are limited, just as any other tool that we have improvised. The primary limitation depends on our understanding regarding the tool's application and use. Free will is the tool we have been given to facilitate our enjoyment of experiencing our existence.
My model is a globe where I can adjust the point in time and zoom in infinitely close on who was where doing what when It’s better for me than the “beastiary”/adamWestPocket example because if I have to remember arbitrary illogical connections like “one person being in Adam West’s pocket” then I have to remember those arbitrary assignations By using the concept of world history and the globe, everything is located where and when it existed
How did I miss this video eight months ago? This channel just keeps getting better and better every day. I actually posted a link to this video in an answer to a question that was posted on Quora. It was a beginner actor asking how to memorize dialogue. I explained the way that I was taught at Playhouse West but then explained that the art of memory is really something that they should take up as an independent study outside of their acting and that it can benefit more than just their acting career - then recommended that they check out your channel and dropped a link to this video. I'm sure they'll love the Stranger Things reference!
Has it really been that long since this one came out? I really appreciate you sharing it. Actors may well be interested in Bruno because he not only wrote philosophy in dialogue form, but also plays as such for entertainment. 🙏
Thanks for your kind words. It took me a few weeks to even think about how to approach it… not sure how I will beat it, frankly… That’s probably a good thing! 🙏🙏🙏
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Well, the time you spent on it definitely showed up in the quality of this gem 💎 I'm enjoying it for the 2nd time now. You definitely put the bar higher this time, but you know how it is. As long as there is a will, free or not 😉, there is a way. You will again overdeliver 💯
Thanks so much for your encouraging words. I will keep them in my pocket for the next one. Any points you'd like to see considered again or with more detail in the next instalment?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Well, I like the surprise effect that comes with this new/old series. But if I might suggest anything, maybe how the ancient memory techniques could help tame the dopamine addiction/desensitization and also how they could help (or maybe were used by medieval and Renaissance figures) to increase the IQ and the EQ. These two angles will absolutely open the eyes of the people to how powerful, beneficial and impactful on oneself memory techniques could be... it's much more than just remembering a bunch of information.
Great suggestion. There's a recent post on my blog all about the real deal with dopamine. I don't know if I'll turn it into a video... it would probably be at least 45 mins to an hour to cover it all... but I'll see what I can do. For now, it's there. And there's also a post about increasing IQ in what I hope is a reasonable discussion. This practice is indeed about a lot more than memorizing information. I have another video planned along these lines for one of these days. I can't know for sure, but I think there is probably a link between people who "feel" enlightened and their use of memory. I can only observe that a lot of the "gurus" claiming this tend to use their memory a lot, both implicitly and explicitly by putting out a lot of quotes. Not the strongest evidence, but I'll keep thinking about how best to validate the notion as time goes on. :-)
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM 🙏 thanks for asking! Lots of long training retreats up here at the monastery. Very nourishing! 🌲☯️🌲 Slowly growing the qigong video collection on here. Your consistent dedication to upping your game is genuinely inspiring brother!
Thanks for all your work! This video felt like it expanded my mind, connecting memory and spirituality (which I'm into since 14 years ago) really lights a spark on me, I'm gonna check a book or two of Bruno, already started reading "The Victorious Mind" some weeks ago but left it because of life, thought of grabbing it again this days and this video pop so hooray for synchronicites (or YT algorithm, lol), thanks again, masterpiece of a video, felt like a journey.
It’s crazy that there’s a system I could have learned I’ve actively been thinking about this since 2010 and never stumbled on Bruno before ever, except I do use an adjusted version of memory palace and I had heard of that New fan!
Hi, I think the set of all words is smaller than the set of all possible experiences. That means that much of our lives are beyond speaking about. A cliche example is describing colour to a blind person or the experience of a symphony orchestra to a deaf person. Words, like all tools, have natural limits. Yes, they are a particular kind of development, away from the OG, ape, but language skills may not be the only mod we can develop. However, words enable all kinds of thinking that was impossible before, no doubt. My idea is that the price of that acquired skill is being imprisoned within the world of words and all its logical, linear, sequential ways of processing information.
omg I am blessed again with another marvelous Dr. Metivier video !!! this one will keep me busy for a while…. thank you again Dr, I can not wait to see how much further your training goes… I know you are a humble man, but do not think that your work as a collection will not be remembered… you are a modern day Bruno yourself sir!! Additional pointless anecdote: I used a memory palace to memorize the past forms of the English alphabet, and recognized the now extinct letter “Thorn”, which makes a “Th-” sound. When the printing press was created, it was represented with a “Y”, before the letter fell out of favor. But!!!! It exists in tradition, and can be seen at 14:10 in your, “Ye Olde”, which is actually pronounced, “The Olde”! just a fun fact that I only remembered because of your teachings, that re-emerged during this video. have a nice day!
Glad you found this video. Thanks for raising the alphabet/printing press history. I do know this about ye, but this video answers exactly why people like Bruno and people like me from ye olde West pronounce things as we do: 1) Check out the final quote from Bruno in this video, re grannarians 2) I do this on purpose when speaking because no one knows you’re being archaic if you don’t say yee. I think it sounds cool too. 3) The free will thing, which I’m not sure Bruno was switched onto. I think if he knew about the data we have now, he might not have been so frustrated with others. Any current learning projects you’re working on now? Look forward to your next post!
Interesting! The statue within statue within statue is quite fractalian, no? It reminds me of the concept of naturans. And if I understand the implications correctly, using this together with the memory wheel, one ends up with something like a mind map of interconnected memory palaces? Impressive Two additional quick questions: - Isn't 00-99 PAO a derivative of the Major system? - I want to read Flyboy for the summer vacation. Where is the best place to buy it from? As ever, you have my thanks for this excellent content. Good luck on Vitamin X, I hope your muse is kind to you.
Yes, you could think of it as something like a mind map. Some people base the 00-99 PAO on the Major, but the Major itself is derivative of the Katapayadi. Thanks for your interest in Flyboy. It is available directly from me. Just shout out by email if you can't find the portal into it by searching for it. Thanks too for your kind words and Vitamin X is on its way. The first draft is finished and the muse has been very kind indeed. Mnemosyne serves!
As deep as possible! Thanks for your comment and hope to hear from you again soon. What kinds of information would benefit your life if you could remember it better?
Great topics! I haven't done much in the realm of computer programming or accounting, but some in accounting and physics. It really just comes down to having the memory systems in place. Anything can be memorized.
Man! Congrats on the wonderful video! Love from the beguining to the end. We can see how much effort you must have put into this! Thank you so much for all the hard work you are doing! You are a legend!
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM It would be cool to see you cover about habits. How to create good ones and lose bad ones, if it is something that you think it helps to build mental palaces. Thanks again for your engagement and dedication to such an amazing topic!
Thanks for this suggestion. I took you into my life here with some suggestions: ruclips.net/video/NyUsLTPHbTk/видео.html Does this cover what you are thinking about? Or are there more questions on your mind about habit development?
Your explanation of the various systems starting at 13:30 in this video is exactly what I was after. You explain why 26 memory palaces, what a bestiary is and the four number systems. (I'm already working on The major system and the 00-99 PAO. Will look up the other two on your channel).
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM in Dr Seuss’ book “The Cat in the Hat Comes Back”, the cat takes off his hat to reveal “Little Cat A”. And inside Little Cat A’s hat is Little Cat B, and so on to Little Cat Z. Very similar to what you describe here, with an infinite series of dependent memory stations in one’s pocket.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM reminds me of recursion in computer programming, where a function calls itself. I’m going to think of the Dr Seuss example because I’m using his name for my PAO numbering method.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMMmostly I’m just absorbing new phrases to describe essentially indescribable concepts I’ll comment here and there as I explore your channel ^_^
Okay, instead of going “I don’t do the alphabet wheel I’m better already” I’m gonna try and play Starcraft and memorize the games key commands by storing them on the alphabet wheel as I play and see if my play speed and control improve lol 😂 Obviously world history is great for history and current events but it isn’t a good structure for memorizing Starcraft key commands or musical notes. So maybe I should branch out to modular “data structures” best matching the material being digested
Very insightful. I found the last part pretty intriguing: Freud vs Nietche. Freud borrowed from Nietzschesome concepts. However, it's worth noting that while there might be overlaps and parallels between their ideas, the ways they approached and articulated these ideas were different. Freud's division of the psyche into the id, ego, and superego is Freudian.
Many thanks. Not that I want to avoid paying Freud his due, but many scholars have pointed out that a lot of his ideas came from his patients. This is one reason why the idea of there even being anything Freudian has been rather convincing for the past few decades. I think his truly valuable concepts are found in repression, the return of the repressed and identifying the oceanic. But the plumbing stuff of ego/superego/id? That’s all in Oedipus and Shakespeare and according to Peter Gay, it was Freud’s patients who told him that.
Wow, what a fantastic video- interesting from beginning to end. It was chocked full of mind candy. I would have never in a million years imagined that Giordano Bruno may have known Shakespeare, either. -Quick question: Is there an easy way to memorize the sounds that go with your numbers? Did you cover that in another video?
Thanks for checking this one out. Yes, the easiest way to memorize the Major System (or any other number-consonant system) is to use a Memory Palace. You can also use logical associations without a Memory Palace, such as noticing how N has two vertical lines, M 3, T 1, etc.
You are uniquely unique, Anthony! Please recommend a memory book/technique you think is okay for someone studying English language and literature at Masters level. Thanks.
Could u do a vedio on how to.memorize for engineering more technical and problem solving type solutions what is the best technique to memorize info for that purpose
Thanks for this. Do you mean Mega Memory? He teaches the Major based on the old Paris model: 0 = soft c, s or z 1 = d or t 2 = n 3 = m 4 = r 5 = l 6 = ch, soft g, j, sh 7 = hard g or k 8 = f or v 9 = b or p Some people like to also use a w with 3 and a y with 7, but I've never added those semi-consonants myself.
Yes, I do. Most of the exercises and techniques I teach in the MMM Masterclass allow you to completely avoid having to create anything. That's what mastery of memory techniques is all about. It's pure logic at its fastest and really has little or nothing to do with creating or mental imagery at all.
Anthony Metivier, Do you know someone who demonstrated the skill of using locus to completely grasp sentences dealing with abstract concepts without a single mistake in prepositions?
I'm not sure what you mean by abstract concepts. But in general, you could consult this for ideas on how to make all abstractions concrete: ruclips.net/video/pBYBu-Qystc/видео.html
Please check this video out and see if you can find a copy of the Alexander Dicsone texts in your mother tongue: ruclips.net/video/9QF4AihKmbo/видео.html
Thank you Anthony for yet another phantastic video. I think I have everything in place to hedge against the chaos and yet, I often wonder whether I am indeed well enough prepared to master the increasing amount of information. I appreciate this video for its reassurance and the motiviation it gives me. Namaste 🙏
It sounds like we are nesting memory palaces. So if I first use a loci palace, and in each location I have a number (pao) palace, and in each number I have an alphabet (statue) palace, etc. Is that close to the idea?
Thanks for this, James. Yes, you could think of the "infinite" Memory Palace as a kind of nesting, but pure statues doesn't need to take on that effect. That's just aligning stations on bodies inside of buildings more or less exactly as one would on a couch or table. In Bruno, as I understand it, by statue he literally means statue. So if you used a museum as a Memory Palace and in that Memory Palace there is a statue of Zeus with 30 stations on the statue, it's not so much nesting as it is using something inside the building. But if that statue has a "portal" to another statue, then that is like nesting. I don't know enough about the method you are describing, but please feel free to say more. An MP organized around or by a PAO System could certainly resemble this concept, but it depends on the underlying logic that structures the choice of each PAO. Are you using the Major? If so, then it is likely a bi-directional number/alphabet system as discussed in Aristotle's Nuclear Alphabet. :-)
Anthony, what would be your tip for memorizing material for an exam that involves lots of big subjects...like 5 different types of law. Decorate all the law? Making summaries and memorizing the summaries? Thanks in advance
Thanks for this question, Rob. I would do as I have advised law students and lawyers for over a decade now: Learn and apply the Magnetic Memory Method. It’s ultimately a self-study, learn-by-doing set of mnemonic systems and devices you identify and assign based on your existing memories. From there, your absorption and retention can scale quickly, relative to integrity of practice and optimal use of the tools.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Thank you sir. I will rewatch your course. It's just that with the excess of subjects to study and the rigor with which are charged (multiple alternatives with "pranks") it can be intimidating and give a feeling of scarcity, as if the traditional techniques were not enough for so much material. Thank you very much.
Yes, there is a certain level of sneakiness in many exams. All the more reason to have accurate recall of the facts. These feelings of intimidation and scarcity are often best dealt with in two ways: 1) The relaxation exercises I share. The mind is much less likely to bother you if you're relaxed. 2) Taking action. When at least something is being done, the mind takes greater rest in the movement.
Cool video. Thanks. The quote you have from Thus spoke Zarathustra, it is not right. I searched the book and i can't find it."it is the body which is the I....
What translation did you search? It's in the chapter sometimes translated as, "Of the Despisers of the Body." Note that I read Nietzsche in German and translate him myself. One can certainly quibble over the exactness of my translation, but I believe the tone and tenor is correct, especially in the context of this video. I would not do anything wilfully to misinterpret anything in Nietzsche, noting that Nietzsche, like Bruno, used a lot of Zen-like language to help "wake up" their readers, which is why tone and tenor or logopoeia are really important in translation efforts. Enjoy finding and reading the passage for yourself, ideally in the context of the whole book and in Nietzsche overall with your own reading of Bruno.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Oh! Thanks a lot for your reply. I didn't think for a second that you have misinterpreted Nietzsche.. I just wanted to put it in my quote library, and I needed to find where it was exactly. All good. I admire your work since a long time, but I hadn't had the opportunity to focus on learning memory techniques in order to improve my learning.. May I ask you, if someone had only 10 hours to give in learning about memorization techniques which books (yours or others) or videos would you suggest? I have read "Moonwalking with Einstein" in the past, but I was not satisfied. I want actual, tangible techniques. Thanks a lot in advance and kudos for this video here - you re-ignited my wish to remember better in order to learn more effectively!
Thanks for your follow-up. I would suggest reading The Victorious Mind. In the opening, I talk about how Moonwalking with Einstein was mostly story and almost no technique and my book is an attempt to have an engaging story and the most substantial memory techniques I'm aware of. As for only having 10 hours, I do not believe this is realistic to the tradition. Memory training is for life, in the same way that a martial art is. Just as one might complete a black belt in one art and then move onto the next while keeping the original skills fresh, memory is like that. Once you have it optimized, you use it to build, but you never stop nurturing your skills with it. Does this way of looking at things make sense?
Hey Anthony! Hope all is well. I’m curious what your approach is for creating new journeys. I’ve made about 50 so far. Do I need to keep making new palaces for each new thing I want to commit to memory? What’s your approach to this. Thanks :)
Doing pretty good… except for covid. It hit me so hard my wife found me passed out and I was off in the ambulance before I could protest. I frequently assign new Memory Palaces and enjoy the benefit of continually expanding and using spatial memory. It’s rare that I reuse MPs. I’d suggest having and using as many as you can across your learning life. 🙏
Hey Anthony, do you have a process for breaking down paragraphs and sentences into key imagery? I find that this is where I struggle the most. Sometimes I will have multiple paragraphs to remember, and would like to create the fewest amount of images to remember each paragraph, but I’m not sure if this is realistic, and I may in fact need to create more images for each key word of the paragraph. What’s your approach? And is there a section in the MMM course on this topic? Thanks. Hope your covid recovery is speeding up :)
Thanks for your well-wishes. Recovery moves forward! I don't break paragraphs down into imagery. As discussed in video 3 of the Masterplan, the process is always a unique extraction of key points and then elaboration of those points in Memory Palaces. There is not and realistically cannot be a uniform process for this because information is not equal. Many paragraphs have no point as such and others are loaded with them. Some pieces of information appear very straightforward and easy to memorize, but wind up being more complex. Some complex pieces of information wind up connecting more readily despite their complexity. When we have our MPs ready to go along with the prerequisite association development (Exercises page), we're as optimized as possible in the moment of wrestling with the text. Then, as we memorize, we increase our optimization because each new details creates a new connection that itself can serve as a possible point of connection. But there is never an inflection point that changes the nature of information itself, in the same way that no amount of surfing skill and experience changes the ocean. Does this way of looking at things help you out? :-)
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM as always you response is greatly appreciated and very helpful. I’m writing to you today because I made an interesting discovery. I’ve been following your course guidelines when it comes to making journeys in advance, and selecting the loci. Today however I realized that if I use bridge figures, I don’t necessarily need to have specific steps within my journey, because I can just think of the next bridge figure that I visualized in a random section of the journey. This has saved me a lot of time and I’m quite excited to see how this helps me if it proves to be a sustainable strategy over time.
Thanks for letting me know about this. It's possible this approach is sustainable. In my own experience, it tends to hit a saturation point quite quickly and I usually wish that I'd just done things the standard way. But that might not be the case for you and it is always worth running experiments and following intuitions.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I’m going to test this for a while. I think journey reviews will be key. I prefer this way because it’s a time saver, but as you said I may find that I should have gone the original route. Time will tell and I can let you know
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM The historical and practical aspects I would say. I think Metrodorus has one of the best and first versions of the memory palace technique, and is covered at bit in Yate's book.
Somewhat random question. If I had a big memory palace that I'm using micro stations, is it better to go 1-30 then add 1-30 in another room/of that palace or just go 1-30 then 31-60 etc. I put everything alphabetized and I have a different subject on the next ones after 30. Let me know when you can thanks. :)
If there is “better,” it seems to me that it is found through constant experimentation. For me personally, that has always been the key and each new learning projects and the Memory Palaces involved in them always involve a combination of relying on the standard MMM and an experimental element/willingness to not know what will happen along the way. Does this feedback in the context of this video help you out? 🙏
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM so far I'm good. At the moment I'm making a palace network for vietnamese, another one for parkour, self defense and lastly hair care. :) I also chose to go with numbers 1-30 then 1-30 in a another area. :) also I use the statues (sometimes just using 4 pieces for the statues to make it faster) for when I put palaces in the middle walls or on tables while I have other info on the floor by the corners or the lower walls. :) Thanks for all the help.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM When I talk about improving its speed is to create a palace and to place words/information very quickly a bit like the world record which is 450 words in 15min it is equivalent to 2sec to find an association and put it in a memory palace I would love reach this level
It's quite an intellectual noodle and rewarding, especially if you get into non-classical logics overall and learn some of the symbols for the equations.
Hey anthony. Is it possible to recall information in memory palaces that arent used for a long time? For examples I want to remember a poem learned long ago. I just begin with mmm and have no old memory palaces yet. Can you help me with that?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM for example I see a poem name that I learned in the past and want to remember the whole poem but the memory palace where I put it in is abandoned for months or years. Can I have a way to remember it?
It's possible if you get deeply relaxed and try to work it out, ideally with pen and paper in hand. But the most direct manner will be to re-memorize it, which for the true master of memory will be delightful.
Doesn't seem like Chaos to me :) it seems like fractality. Microcosms within microcosms. The idea descends the body hosts. Forever and ever. It's beautiful.
Anthony, Bill hier nochmal, I am very much interested in this series and expanding my knowledge on memory it is kind of my thing to do. I have plenty of images just not memorized. But I have them written down. Tschüss.
Hello I thank you for teaching me and others who have the will to lern dut I have some difficulties of understanding everything because English is my second language so I hop you can add a subtitle or explain in more simpel words I hope you the best and thanks for reading all these
Have you considered learning Latin? Or working with an online translator? That can be a powerful way to at least get the gist of what a book is saying.
Don't worry: Bruno sometimes tries to make you think. If you feel like you don't understand it, just think about it for awhile and keep reading. It took me several years to start understanding it. :-)
Bruno was absolutely correct. Aristotle's logic is fatally flawed. Because, that which is LIMITED is IRRATIONAL by definition, and Aristotle attributed (limitless) Reason to limited (irrational) ideas of the limited (irrational) intellect, which bases everything upon information gathered by the limited (irrational) senses. Like the pre-Socratics, Bruno was influenced by the ultimate source of information. We call it Hermeticism, but it is not just another "ism," as it comes from The Source Itself; absolute Truth put into terms that we who are experiencing limitation can understand. And Hermeticism admits the finite to be the irrationality that it is. In other words, Aristotle believed his irrational senses, and was therefore as irrational (insane) as most people are. Bruno was not. "Why we are here?" I have that information; the greatest secret in this entire Universe... Free will is not currently available, but freedom of choice is - in a binary fashion, with DESIRE being the operative mechanism: The rational desire for Truth, or the IRRATIONAL desire that Truth be what one DESIRES Truth to be. "Chaos is but unperceived order." Memory? Limitless Spirit knows and remembers everything that is real - everything that is truly Rational, because it is Infinite and Eternal. And we who have forgotten and are experiencing limitation can strive to remember irrational symbols all we want. But, no thanks. I don't care that I forget my password or where my car keys are. For, I've found the way Home to the Rational, where limitation is unknown and absolutely everything worth remembering is remembered. Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and all mysteries have been unveiled. Click and ye shall find. (I correspond only through email via my contact page.)
Not related Topic: Anthony have you ever seen the movie “Inception” Everytime I watch that movie, it’s confusing to me. It’s like they are in a dream state when they get shot they wake up somewhere else. Give it a look when you have the time. Leonardo DiCaprio is in the movie. This seems like a multi-layer memory palace. Or multi layered something.
Yes, I've seen it. It and Tenet are amongst my favorite films. I should perhaps one day do a video on the memory themes in Nolan films - including how they are quite likely drawn from/highly influenced by Christopher Priest novels. This is not a stretch: The Prestige is itself based on a Priest novel.
These are interesting thought puzzles, but ultimately I like to ask: What changes if this idea is true? What changes if it isn't true? Typically, questions of identity like this when answered based on current evidence is that nothing much changes. If the Odyssey were revealed to be the work of Socrates all of a sudden, all that would change is trivia... maybe a bit of tourist revenue. Or am I missing something here?
Please search shorthand on my website if Google doesn't bring it up. There's a search bar on every page of the blog and always links to the main site in the description. :-)
It depends on the language, where you are at with the memory skills and what you need to make substantial progress with the programming language. I would suggest first getting well-versed in proper, mnemonic techniques before worrying too much about specific applications. This is important because there is nothing special about any particular body of information. Learn the techniques well, and you will memorize anything well.
Computers have excelled because they encode at the most fundamental level that there are no contradictions in reality. Contradictions are a sure sign of a logical error. 1 does not equal 0.
That is indeed 1 way of looking at things. But it is also quite possibly a logical error to assume that logic gets such extraordinary governance and sovereignty.
These are suggested variations. They don't all appear fully in the image, so it's anyone's guess. But most people use ch and juh or soft g sounds for 6. The image may be referring to how J/I is sometimes used in Latin.
If people are conditioned to not believe what Giordano Bruno said, which I comprehended as hard determinism, If everything is determined by the law of cause and effect, bound by physical and mental limitations, then how is memory improvement (or any improvement in general) possible?
I'm not sure I can answer to the possible question, but we certainly see how our brains can copy the actions of others in ways that lead to both plus or minus consequences. You might like to look into topics like mirror neurons and other aspects of neuroscience and social learning. Those elements speak to cause and effect.
Free will doesn't exist is the mantra that brings the spirit of catastrophy. Yes, our decisions are the derivatives of a character that contains elements in which our free will does not always participate' An example of that is the early teachings of our parents or guardians. But, this fact does not render our free will non-existent. It is in our hands to decide the elements of our character that we want to draw from before making a choice. And the power of knowledge magnifies our ability to exercise our free will. Peace brothers.
There are many other factors that discredit the notion of free will. The question to ask yourself is if you have will enough to drop your conviction in its existence. Strangely, free will defenders never do. And if they say they are compelled by their interpretation of data, all the more evidence they don’t have the will they claim.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Sure, but I consciously select not to do so due to lack of actual coherent and compleling evidence in support of that position. One can also select both consiously and unconsiously the degree that external data can be assimilated into decision making as well. If one believes that we are preprogrammed automatons, he is free to do so, but it seems that a belief against free will is a very compeling reason to avoid deep and hard work on one's self since it is predetermined that regardless of the effort the outcome is already determined and thus not really important or urgent to meet any target. Looking at the behaviors that the belief against free will incentivizes, I do consider it proper to avoid such beliefs altogether.
And conscious awareness operates according to your design and purview? There is equally a lack of coherent and coherent evidence to compel anyone to believe that. We don't even have evidence of the "one" who thinks "one" comes up with such permutations of the alphabet with intensional and extensional references to either material or ontological being. What's tremendously curious is that the pushback to "no free will" continually resembles what you've said, replete with references to belief. Is belief truly a matter of will and freedom? If so, how so? Likewise, you roll out the old and tired idea that the no free will position is somehow about avoiding self improvement. This is special pleading because all kinds of people have never heard of free will as a philosophical point of contention and still do not work on themselves. They raise no such excuse, but if they were to bump into the idea and have implicit memory and semantic memory, etc. encode it into their systems, they have a higher likely hood of trotting it out in the same way you just have. I'll leave it to your claim to "consciously select" to either educate or refuse to educate yourself about memory science and speak further about it. I certainly won't try to persuade you to do so and I have no skin in the game of whether you do so or not, other than that the more people who at least consider the alternative view without special pleading, the more we might see a reduction in suffering. But the transformation rarely happens simply because it can't, not because anyone's "belief" in some form of determinism gives them an out.
Is the Capitol Builiding (the Rotunda) with its statues of remarkable people from every state, the paintings and the rooms themselves i.e. the House of Reps and the Senate. Could this have been designed with Giordano Bruno? In fact the whole City of Washington DC could be a 'Chaos' Memory Palace.
Got it. Anything's possible. I've never seen the Capitol Building (except via video), so it's hard to say. Are there Masonic elements to its construction? If so, some people say Bruno has been important for that group, so I imagine it's possible.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM There certainly are. Masonic Symbolism is everywhere. David Icke made a big song & dance about the Town planning of the City, but in a negative light, remarking that if you joined the dots and looked at the various attractions from an aerial P.O.V.; it looked like an owl ( Referring the Bohemian Grove).Even the inside of the Smithsonian institute could be a huge Giordano Bruno chaos memory palace.
One person who might know more is Martin Faulks. I'll be sure to ask him a.s.a.p. if he has any details. There used to be a video on YT that had a breakdown of the Masonic images built into parts of Brisbane. It appears to have been taken down, but if what the person was saying is true, it was quite compelling. Something you can't unsee after someone points it all out.
I understand some concepts, still it is chaotic, like the video is about, we are limited by body because we have resources, we can use only some things at one time. Like we cant really know everything at once. To another part still i dont really agree with the non existence of free will, if there is + there is a minus, which draws the whole, all seems just like some kind of balance, but well according to that which is in video 'universe is infinite, so you are too, as you are a part of it' so you grow indefinitely, till your time comes to an end, and you growing is not something you can control in all senses, but you can choose to grow more, to 'increase the speed' instead of holding the non effort speed, that in fact is free will, controling what you can, instead of controlling what you cannot, i think its just a matter of recognizing it. It's all hard to convey as you can literally waste your life, but what makes you not waste it is consciousness which in turn comes from the universe, so it comes back to one and the same point, to it balancing itself out. To be honest the idea is still lacking, just like my abilities to convey that, they only start to expand, i hope that it can provide some insights into what you have, as what you did brings some insight into what i do have. I recommend looking into ying yang, taoism and similar stuff like these, thank you and take care.
Possibly, but then where does the ability to recognize come from? An “individual” who claims credit for that has not yet started thinking and awaits the catalyst that will help the needed thinking to start rolling.
That's the question: What does the 'individual' claim credit for? If it's will of any kind, but especially free will, then I can only repeat the call to adventure that deep thinking on the matter needs to begin. Many, if not most of the best philosophers and many of the cutting edge physicists have recognized that free will is not possible. So it's not like you would be stepping into the company of tedious people.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM i really do not agree with that statement, but I cannot yet go into discussion about that topic, as I do not know much about the topic I rather not speak about it.
I started with Tony Buzans Book years ago, tried applying his memory matrix, but couldn't get it to work in real-time. I would have to put aside study encoding sessions to make it work. Hence lost interest.@@AnthonyMetivierMMM
Buzan's SEM3 has a problem with being too generic, though for a while it may have helped some memory competitors given where the records were at that time. If your interest ever returns, there are much easier and more effective methods available now.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM not really, i'm just starting the journey of memory and really putting it up, but instead of actively remembering, i try to do it passively by assigning a category to a creature like a wailing ghost or a mythical creature who speaks whenever a situation appears, honestly like clock alarm for memories ahah. i divide the categories in long term use or not to progressively go further on the flower of life and the connection between the flowers are connections for arguments or my own opinion on categories. just a work in progress made by someone, not great at memories, who uses the words of others as a prompt to remember.
Hey Anthony I think I am doing something wrong So for example: I place the image for the definition of equilibrium on a table And when someone asks me the definition of equilibrium the image comes in my mind not the table The table comes in my mind a lot later Is this suppose to happen
Maybe something drops from a leveled scale (equilibrium) with a thud/bang/splash on a table. Maybe put an instance before the table (like my view:actually it starts from my head/eyes but naturally it feels like it starts from what my eyes are seing first). I often have soem problems with the first and last word, so maybe ad another thing after the last word aswell to encapsulate everything
19:20 this is hysterical i literally have a CASIO fx-991EX C L A S S W I Z scientific calculator 15 cm away from the center of my laptop to the center of the scientific calculator holy god
When you say "any of this", you should wildly gesticulate in every direction to indicate that your talking about all of reality. That's what i do. It looks very dramatic.
Perhaps, but as mentioned in this video, "all of reality" is an emergent property (or infinite set of sets of infinite properties). So in my personal practice, such dramatic waving would diminish the majesty of the target. Living with as few "shoulds" as possible is my alternative goal, but I do appreciate the suggestion. :-)
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM You are probably right. It's impossible to point at all of reality, and the constant stream of new states of reality. It can be entertaining to try, though. Just watch out for your mic and that bookcase behind you.
I disagree with premise 3 (of 4). The argument, therefore, falls down completely, for me. Ultimately, though, I must admit, I don't care about free will vs. Determinism in any ultimate sense, because, a)I believe absolutes are unattainable in this universe, 2)as a practical matter, Determinism leads to ever increasingly irresponsible behavior. Possibly I should add 3) I define responsibility as willingness to be at cause. This puts all subjects under possible consideration into present tense, which I deem good, because I know no more powerful affirmation/mantra than the following (I know many that are equally powerful, but not MORE powerful): never regret yesterday. Life is with you today; and you create your own tommarow.
I would love to see anyone create tomorrow, whatever that is supposed to be. The fact that we are all vectors of such meaningless cliches is all the evidence one needs to make the absence of free will “stand.”
I reckon it can be both. I often joke that my PhD stands for "piled higher and deeper." But it's not that funny given the direction a lot of universities are going. In all things, Bruno put a lot of emphasis on humility, humor and the hunt for better memory. And in that, I don't think there's any rubbish of any kind.

Yes, that's one way of doing things. The more you explore, the more you'll develop your own "mnemonic style."
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM thanks man. :)
Excellent video!
Language and logic are limited, just as any other tool that we have improvised. The primary limitation depends on our understanding regarding the tool's application and use.
Free will is the tool we have been given to facilitate our enjoyment of experiencing our existence.
My model is a globe where I can adjust the point in time and zoom in infinitely close on who was where doing what when
It’s better for me than the “beastiary”/adamWestPocket example because if I have to remember arbitrary illogical connections like “one person being in Adam West’s pocket” then I have to remember those arbitrary assignations
By using the concept of world history and the globe, everything is located where and when it existed

It’s crazy that there’s a system I could have learned
I’ve actively been thinking about this since 2010 and never stumbled on Bruno before ever, except I do use an adjusted version of memory palace and I had heard of that
New fan!
Bruno is a lot of fun - and just one of a whole host of characters I've been covering in the playlist this video belongs to. :-)
Thank you.
omg I am blessed again with another marvelous Dr.
I do know this about ye, but this video answers exactly why people like Bruno and people like me from ye olde West pronounce things as we do:
1) Check out the final quote from Bruno in this video, re grannarians
2) I do this on purpose when speaking because no one knows you’re being archaic if you don’t say yee. I think it sounds cool too.
3) The free will thing, which I’m not sure Bruno was switched onto. I think if he knew about the data we have now, he might not have been so frustrated with others.

Technically Poseidon isn’t a metaphor, he’s a Scandinavian Vedic hero who was the Po (king) of Seidon as recorded in the Oera Linda lol
Interesting! The statue within statue within statue is quite fractalian, no? It reminds me of the concept of naturans. And if I understand the implications correctly, using this together with the memory wheel, one ends up with something like a mind map of interconnected memory palaces? Impressive
Two additional quick questions:
- Isn't 00-99 PAO a derivative of the Major system?
- I want to read Flyboy for the summer vacation. Where is the best place to buy it from?

Okay, instead of going “I don’t do the alphabet wheel I’m better already” I’m gonna try and play Starcraft and memorize the games key commands by storing them on the alphabet wheel as I play and see if my play speed and control improve lol 😂
Obviously world history is great for history and current events but it isn’t a good structure for memorizing Starcraft key commands or musical notes. So maybe I should branch out to modular “data structures” best matching the material being digested
Experimentation is the key.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I'm beginning to see that memorization is going to change even how I think about what I'm working with.

Anthony I just have one question NOT related to the video: in Trudeau cards what is the As 1? Or 0. Thanks again. I’m watching this again.

Do you mean Mega Memory? He teaches the Major based on the old Paris model:
0 = soft c, s or z
1 = d or t
2 = n
3 = m
4 = r
5 = l
6 = ch, soft g, j, sh
7 = hard g or k
8 = f or v
9 = b or p
Some people like to also use a w with 3 and a y with 7, but I've never added those semi-consonants myself.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM yes Anthony As is 0. Cool!!!!

Hey Anthony, do you thinh you have any techniques that could be used by someone with aphantasia(inability to create mental images)

Thanks so much. Constant practice = maximum preparedness. And when that meets opportunity, there is no ceiling.
I would do as I have advised law students and lawyers for over a decade now:
Learn and apply the Magnetic Memory Method.
These feelings of intimidation and scarcity are often best dealt with in two ways:
1) The relaxation exercises I share. The mind is much less likely to bother you if you're relaxed.
2) Taking action. When at least something is being done, the mind takes greater rest in the movement.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Thank you very much! I will follow these advices.
Dharana for life ^^
Cool video. Thanks. The quote you have from Thus spoke Zarathustra, it is not right. I searched the book and i can't find it."it is the body which is the I....
What translation did you search?
It's in the chapter sometimes translated as, "Of the Despisers of the Body."
Note that I read Nietzsche in German and translate him myself.

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM okay great thank you! Sorry to hear that. I had Covid last April and it was pretty bad. Hope you’re doing better now
Starting to feel better, thanks. But it's been pretty rough!

Many thanks for this. I'll have a closer look and see what I can come up with for this series by including Metrodorus.
I have an image of chaos. White noise. Like snow on the old "television" CRT.
Cool!
You know those instances that you face chaos when you can choose to embrace the void.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM yes it does. Thanks. :)
Awesome!
Anything else I can help you out with?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM so far I'm good. At the moment I'm making a palace network for vietnamese, another one for parkour, self defense and lastly hair care. :) I also chose to go with numbers 1-30 then 1-30 in a another area. :) also I use the statues (sometimes just using 4 pieces for the statues to make it faster) for when I put palaces in the middle walls or on tables while I have other info on the floor by the corners or the lower walls. :) Thanks for all the help.
That all sounds great. Power to you!
Hi Anthony! I wanted to know do you have any tricks to increase its memory speed? Because I find myself too slow
Please say more. What are you currently memorizing and at what speed?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM When I talk about improving its speed is to create a palace and to place words/information very quickly a bit like the world record which is 450 words in 15min it is equivalent to 2sec to find an association and put it in a memory palace I would love reach this level
In that case, maybe check out the journaling tactics discussed here:

I have a feeling the concept of dialetheism will possess me.
I’m not sure what you mean. Are you talking about reviving old memories using a Memory Palace?
Or re-memorizing something?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM for example I see a poem name that I learned in the past and want to remember the whole poem but the memory palace where I put it in is abandoned for months or years. Can I have a way to remember it?
It's possible if you get deeply relaxed and try to work it out, ideally with pen and paper in hand. But the most direct manner will be to re-memorize it, which for the true master of memory will be delightful.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM thanks now it makes sense to me
Great! Anything else I can help you with?
Doesn't seem like Chaos to me :) it seems like fractality. Microcosms within microcosms. The idea descends the body hosts. Forever and ever. It's beautiful.
Fractals certainly play a role here. I would suggest reading Thirty Statues itself for the fuller gist of what Bruno means - or means to mean.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Definitely I'll look into it :)
Great! Enjoy!
Does that mean So many things so little time no longer applies?
You could say that! 🙏
Anthony, Bill hier nochmal, I am very much interested in this series and expanding my knowledge on memory it is kind of my thing to do. I have plenty of images just not memorized. But I have them written down. Tschüss.
Thanks for checking this one out, Bill, and I hope you like the rest of the series.
Great that you're gathering images in the meantime!
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I’m currently watching the one before this one with the triangle memory palace I think.
Hello I thank you for teaching me and others who have the will to lern dut I have some difficulties of understanding everything because English is my second language so I hop you can add a subtitle or explain in more simpel words I hope you the best and thanks for reading all these
I’m not sure there are simpler words for what Bruno was trying to express. Have you ever seen any translations of his books in your mother tongue?
@Anthony Metivier ther are a little amount of book in my mother language so no and sorry for bothering you and thank for replying
Have you considered learning Latin? Or working with an online translator? That can be a powerful way to at least get the gist of what a book is saying.
@Anthony Metivier yes I have a plan to lern Latin and the translation is not really andersandbul thak for the advice and your time
Don't worry: Bruno sometimes tries to make you think.

It's also possible that Shakespeare didn't exist and that he was invented as a counterpart of Cervantes from Spain... anyway, loved your video!
These are interesting thought puzzles, but ultimately I like to ask:
What changes if this idea is true?
What changes if it isn't true?
Typically, questions of identity like this when answered based on current evidence is that nothing much changes. If the Odyssey were revealed to be the work of Socrates all of a sudden, all that would change is trivia... maybe a bit of tourist revenue.
Or am I missing something here?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Sadly, what matters the most is not the truth.

How to memorize programming language ? Please reply
Does anyone know what the 6 I under j is at 24:08?
24:07

CHAOOOSSS
🤣
Is the Capitol Builiding (the Rotunda) with its statues of remarkable people from every state, the paintings and the rooms themselves i.e. the House of Reps and the Senate. Could this have been designed with Giordano Bruno? In fact the whole City of Washington DC could be a 'Chaos' Memory Palace.
Great suggestion! 🙏
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I meant to say....with Giordano Bruno in mind.
Something you can't unsee after someone points it all out.
maybe language as we have it serves to prune our reality
Maybe! 🙏
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM it comes probably from the 'source' as far as the context goes. Still I have to ask what does the 'individual' claim credit for?
That's the question: What does the 'individual' claim credit for? If it's will of any kind, but especially free will, then I can only repeat the call to adventure that deep thinking on the matter needs to begin.
Many, if not most of the best philosophers and many of the cutting edge physicists have recognized that free will is not possible. So it's not like you would be stepping into the company of tedious people.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM i really do not agree with that statement, but I cannot yet go into discussion about that topic, as I do not know much about the topic I rather not speak about it.

The time it takes to encode, I find too laborious. But once encoded, it sticks.
How are you currently encoding? There are probably some quick ways to speed everything up if you’re willing to experiment with them.
If your interest ever returns, there are much easier and more effective methods available now.
a wheel of memory based on intuition and the flower of life, which is better don't know how to explain it tho.
Sounds fascinating. Have you done a long term split-test between the two in order to test the conclusion that one is better than the other?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM not really, i'm just starting the journey of memory and really putting it up, but instead of actively remembering, i try to do it passively by assigning a category to a creature like a wailing ghost or a mythical creature who speaks whenever a situation appears, honestly like clock alarm for memories ahah. i divide the categories in long term use or not to progressively go further on the flower of life and the connection between the flowers are connections for arguments or my own opinion on categories. just a work in progress made by someone, not great at memories, who uses the words of others as a prompt to remember.
Sounds interesting.
There are other options to explore, so just shout out if you get into any of the ones I talk about and happy to help if I can.
Hey Anthony I think I am doing something wrong
So for example:
I place the image for the definition of equilibrium on a table
And when someone asks me the definition of equilibrium the image comes in my mind not the table
The table comes in my mind a lot later
Is this suppose to happen
With the full MMM in operation, you will simply know the answer without reference to the Memory Palaces at all. 🙏

Can this comment be a memory palace?
It always already is when you understand these techniques.
I can never tell if philosophers are super smart or completely full of crap
I reckon it can be both. I often joke that my PhD stands for "piled higher and deeper." But it's not that funny given the direction a lot of universities are going.
In all things, Bruno put a lot of emphasis on humility, humor and the hunt for better memory. And in that, I don't think there's any rubbish of any kind.
