We have a few things to disassemble and clean before painting. But what carrier rollers will work with our 4G series Cat D4? Turns out they are the same as the 7J & 5T series D4s. Overall, progress continues on the 1939 Cat D4 / RD4 agricultural crawler with a D4400 diesel engine. 4G9986 "Lil Lefty" has never been so much fun and fulfilling. I hope you enjoy the shop talk, banter and commentary.

    Thanks for watching!

I'm sure glad y'all posted. Just had surgery and all I can do is sit and watch. It's amazing that there are so many variations to the most simple of components.

Thanks John! Like a friend of ours once mentioned caterpillar back in those days would just get a whim and change a part. Hope you have a speedy recovery and you can count on prayers heading your way!

4G idlers are worn but not even the worst ones I have seen by far. With old CATs surprises can come left and right. The springs on the front idler are also present on the Chelyabinsk dozers that are analogs to the CAT D6 from ww 2.

Yea I'm working on a 2T. And if the spokes on the front idlers weren't connect all the way across. Mine would be in 3 peices. 2 outside peices and the middle. Got the set up in and old galvanized tube to spin in water. And started building em with the welder. My oldest son is a welder also. So we've been taking turns. Long road but we'll get there.

I knew a guy that had a welder to build them up

I was going to do that but the two we ended up picking are going to last a long time. You can bet I'll be doing some of that on other projects in the future. 😀

Are those parts trending towards unobtanium?

They definitely are. If I was to do this project all over again I would call it project "unobtainium" 🤣.
