I met George on the tube, myself on route to a Stranglers gig. Never seen a suit like it! Got offered a job at Adrians in Wickford at 16 but my mum reminded me the reason for a job was not just to meet girls and buy records. Great to be reminded of those times. Must go and dig through those old 45s to find my pink vinyl Stranglers and the Black and White freebie.
@@outlawbookselleroriginal although the job tempting, pay not great. Ended up working in the City. Office within a short stroll from Faringdon Records, Our Price and all the other suspects. Still made the effort to ride out to Adrians at weekends ( JJ had a huge impression on me at the time and of course the bike was a Triumph Bonneville).
I love the Old Codger single and Bill Nelson, from Sound on Sound through to Chimera, these four albums are indispensible to music lovers of post punk music. And SF themed music.
Thanks for looking at Red Noise too. Hopefully, there'll be a Cherry Red reissue next year to follow-up those for Be Bop Deluxe. Also, I really liked George's 'Revolt Into Style.' He was probably the very first lit. crit. not to be condescending about pop culture.
Well, it was too good an opportunity to miss not to mention Red Noise - "Revolt Into Style" is one of my fave songs from that period, amazing lyrics I always thought, great melody and the end section is really great too.

Great anecdote! So did you take the job at Adrians? It was my mail order record shop of choice back then, great memories of waiting for the postie!
