Grace. Yes, exactly a week ago we saw a stunning example of courage, resilience, elegance, dignity, and indeed grace from our beloved Princess of Wales. Not a single word of recrimination or complaint about the unfair and often hysterical attacks on her character. In its essence, we heard a message of love for her nation and her family, concluding with a message of support and concern for all who suffer from illness. The world loves the Princess. We are better people for the example she sets for us. Get well soon. ❤

I am thankful that, as New Zealander, we are too far away for people to get in their little boats and turn up on our shores demanding to be given a home. I am horrified that illegal immigrants turn up, are not prepared to become citizens and just want those countries to give, give, give, to keep them happy whilst they give nothing in return. Sad that weak governments are allowing this to continue.

We don't get the 'boat people', but we have had a lot of illegal overstayers in NZ. Those who come in on a short-term visa and don't leave when it expires. Funnily enough, an Immigration survey done in recent years found that the most numerous overstayers were not, as we might have thought, Pasifika people but Europeans who decided to break our immigration laws and outstay their official welcome rather than return to Europe (and Britain). Who'd have thought?

I am an immigrant to the U.S. from Denmark when I was 7 years old ( I’m now 60). It took my family nearly four years to get permission to move here. My father then served in the U.S. military for 20 years, fought in Vietnam three separate times, was shot there and nearly lost his leg, came home and became a hand grenade instructor but an incident with a trainee caused him to be “ blown up” by a grenade ( 157 pieces of scrapnel). Had mental issues since returning from the war which just got worse and he ended his life 2 years ago at 83. We are all immigrants, and I believe in it. But what is happening in the U.S. right now is atrocious, and they are treated better than us, given money and housing and everything. We have poor people and homeless vets here who need help. And, like the UK, these aren’t families escaping atrocities,but single young men as well. And some openly voice their disdain of the U.S. as they cross our borders. 😢😢😢😢😢

River, here in Australia, we're having the same problems with immigration. Immigration is a good thing, but not the way it is at the moment. Apart from not having the infrastructure, it's the same problem with them bringing their hatred and fighting here. Our government is bending to their wishes, changing thing's to suit their beliefs, like Easter, Christmas, and other festivals. I always thought that if you go to live in another country, you adapt to their customs and still have your own.

Dear River! About the hammer attack: we live nearby and my mom knows this gentleman - only but three months ago, upon her visit, she bought a pair of Victorian earrings from him. Scary, how we are sometimes so close to where bad things happen! A charming gentleman, so sad this happened to him!

May I say, as an Aussie, the world condemned us for placing "illegal maritime arrivals" into detention centres until investigations into their stories were undertaken. Only then were they granted a visa and allowed into the community. I'm not saying it's the right way to do it, as it cost us the taxpayers tens of billions of dollars, but it potentially stopped criminals being given free reign in the community.
Might I add that uncontrolled immigration is not only a problem of the US and the UK, we are facing the same problem all over Europe, especially Italy and Germany.

Immigration to North America has been a great blessing for my family. Some came over on the Mayflower for religious freedom and the most recent came from Iceland in the late 1800s due to crushing poverty. My dad was the first on his father’s side to be born in the US. The thing is, they all assimilated and were very grateful for the chance to improve their lives for themselves. They weren’t looking for a handout, although I’m sure their neighbors in New Iceland did what they could. My great grandparents learned English and I never heard my grandfather speak a work of Icelandic, which to me is sad. I’m sure it was the best choice at the time.
The UK and US politicians are gaslighting their citizens. Almost none of the new arrivals are “refugees.”
My father immigrated here after WWII. He was only 13 and an orphan, going to a country he didn't know. He had lost everything. He grew up to have a career and personal life helping others and was an an amazing role model. Very glad the US allowed him in.

I hope the UK will fight to maintain British culture. No problem with immigration, but it needs to be managed and people must assimilate or move somewhere else.

People don’t respect each other anymore- the least one can do! So many have become so self-absorbed. There is no civil debate, no reasoned discussion anymore- just hate, right and wrong determined arbitrarily, without a thought. It’s sad- and terrifying, because society will only continue to sink lower.

In my opinion, children are not parented and taught manners, coping mechanisms, discipline and cause and effect as in past generations. Now, moral values have changed and families have both parents working or single parent homes, time that was previously spent with children and children playing together after school is now spent in front of one type of screen or another, and children are enrolled in too many extracurricular activities and must excell. So much pressure.

Immigration is a very big issue worldwide. Even in my country, a large country with a small population (only 3 milion people on a land mass of 824,292 km²). But even we are getting some immigrants who want to dictate what happens in our country that goes against our traditional and Christian values. I sincerely hope that immigrants learn to integrate themselves in our societies instead of trying to change us to be like them, especially where religion is concerned because that has the potential to be used as tool to control society.
As good Christians we will respect other religions and traditions, please also respect our religion and traditions in the land you chose to immigrate to 😇🙏

Australia is receiving 700,000 migrants too this year. We were never given any say about the number (the highest ever), and we have a housing crisis and lack of adequate infrastructure. The reason? It allows the government to pretend our economy is doing well because overall, it will increase our GDP. However, the true sign of a healthy economy - GDP per capita - is going down. I believe the same bait-and-switch is happening with UK migration.

I am in full agreement w the Commenter whose ancestors were Italian immigrants to USA. My ancestors were also migrants of a different country, but who also came here to be 'Americans'. My Mother knew their native tongue...but when she & her brother started attending school, my G-parents announced, "We will now speak only English in our home...our children were born in this country; were are now fully Americans." And so it was. They worked hard to live the American dream; NEVER accepting government benefits other than their rightfully earned Social Security when they retired. I am dismayed at how many illegal migrants are invading the UK & the USA, not intending to contribute to our great nations. There are some whom are grateful....but many announce their entitlement & it is SHOCKING!!! Many are looking for homes to squat in....so our local governments, (councils), are having to change laws so as to not have entire neighborhoods overtaken by these squatters. I love the UK, it's home, I don't understand people coming here running away from their own countries some of them, to bring the same behaviors and issues that they ran away from here. I'm not sure what the solution is but what I know is that something has to be done. I'm a remainer, and I feel like immigration has gotten worse since parting with the EU. Additionally all the negative propaganda lately about the UK has left many I feel without pride in being British which also helps I think dampen Britishness. So the British Empire was a thing, there was good and there was a lot of bad, but why don't people get angry at France, or Spain or the other colonial powers? I feel like we get picked on all the time, made to feel guilty, and we are quickly becoming a doormat nation and I don't like it. Britain has gone down the drain in the past few years under Tory rule - I'm hoping that we can turn things around. We need strong leadership that is balanced and fair, but still protects Britishness. There's a lot to proud of, we just have to remember it.

Another comment re immigration - I grew up listening to Queen and am still a fan. I once watched an interview with Freddie Mercury’s mother. She shared that when Freddie and his family moved to England for his dad’s job - Freddie was the only Hindu child in his school. Freddie’s mother said that Freddie did everything to fit in with the other children - by participating in and celebrating the Christian holidays and any other English holidays. Such a change to today’s group of immigrants. Hope you have a nice Easter, River!
That's very interesting. Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar, a small archipelago of islands close to Tanzania, on the east coast of Africa. Anyway, his upbringing must have been very different from the average illegal inmigrant's.

River, I was extremely touched by the story you shared about Mr. Ian Towning. He sounds like such a kind and gracious man, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that his attacker had enough courage and decency to offer an apology to his innocent victim. It is stories like this that restore my faith in humanity.

How horrible for Ian Towning! wasn't there a documentary on him? He seems so charming. I'm wishing him the best. It is so important for the King to stay away from people as his immune system will be very low because of his treatment. Here in the US, illegal immigration is 13 million per year. It's ludicrous! And it doesn't include the people who come in the legal way. We cannot absorb this kind of change. My family came into the US during the early 1900s and came in legally. My grandfather was said to have bathed and shaved his head prior to entering the country in order to not bring any vermin into the country he honored so much. He got his degree and became a citizen as soon as he could.
My grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Austria in the late 1920’s. My father, aunts, and uncles grew to be those decent kind of people, who care and contribute to their community and church. People that keep things running- for their families and their neighbors. I am proud of my grandparents and my father, aunts, and uncles. They helped build America.
That was a beautiful cathedral for the Maundy Service with Queen Camilla! It is now on my list of sights to see on a dedicated trip to Great Britain.
Worcester IS a beautiful cathedral! My daughter was confirmed there & later did a lot of volunteer work there. I knew it fairly well, so was delighted to watch bits of it on the news.

I am so sorry for Mr Ian Towning. It is dreadful that London is becoming so unsafe. I do hope that the Met does an exemplary work and holds the thieves responsible for their actions. It is a shame if shop owners are afraid to have their door open. It is such a lovely part of our lives to be able to pop into a shop and find beautiful things. I wish the best for Mr Ian Towning and that his insurance covers his damage.

RIVER, I am American, live in the desert Southwest, I am female, I am 73 years old, but I love to drive and other than the mentioned setbacks would love to drive all over the UK with you. (I just returned from a 650 mile round trip with my grandson where I did most of the driving.)

Also I have to say, with all due respect, Poland is BEAUTIFUL and you should visit and see for yourself; Krakow is seeping in history, colour and delicious food, the Wieliczka salt mine and the ice cream nearby are my childhood, Zakopane in the south has some of the most breathtaking mountains in Europe and up in Gdansk you get the gorgeous fresh sea breeze and sandy beaches, among many other charming cities. I know their laws aren't very friendly sounding and I wish it was different but most Poles are very tolerant :)

River over 30 years ago my older sister was murdered by her husband and he was shot and killed by police. I forgave him as Jesus tells us to forgive and being Good Friday I cant make it to the 7 pm service and Im thankful the service online . Sending all Gods blessings.

Canada took in over 1 million immigrants in a 9 months period. We are currently setup to take a maximum of 350k. Hospitals, roads, schools, housing etc are disasters and crime is rampid. I find it quite interesting that this is happening all over the civilizated world. Sure seems very organized to me. Oh and we currently have a Liberal government.
I'm not sure where you got that number from ?? The number of immigrants to Canada last year was just under 500,000. I work in statistics for resources, so I'm aware of the actual intake.
Your comment implies that immigrants are the most likely people to commit crimes. In fact, immigrants are the least likely to commit crimes than the people who were there before them. There are any number of studies and statistics in Canada to disprove the misconception. And as, @evieshore3270 pointed out, Canada's immigration number is set to 500,000 per year.

I think we should rent a small passenger bus with River and a small group of basketeers to tour the Kingdom. The basketeers could rotate out to keep it fresh. We could visit drag shows, jam factories, bakeries, school plays, local rituals, and farms. We could overnight at inns and colleges and summer camps. We might visit ethnic neighborhoods for special foods and fashion. Let’s do it. And there would have to be kareoke.

I did a fact check and the altered poster was just in one Cadbury outlet store. Cadbury said that they have no connection with this idea and their products use the word Easter multiple times. Someone posted the image of the poster and it went viral.

There are a lot of towns/cities in Canada that were named after their British counterparts and if I drove I would happily chauffeur you around in Canada.
Canada has problems with immigration too and housing, too many people and not enough homes. My family came to Canada from England. My nana came in 1916 during WWI with a family member who was told to take a sea voyage for her health. My father’s family came in the 1950’s from England. They all got jobs and worked hard for what they had. During WWII my family sent their extra rations to our family in England.
