A video about Arnold Rothstein would be cool. Not only did he fix the 1919 World Series but he took Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky, and Frank Costello under his wing, teaching them how to bring business principles to crime. His three proteges are called the fathers of modern organized crime, which would make Arnold the grandfather. fa
I remember seeing a History Channel documentary about Whitey Bulger and within the first five minutes realizing that this was pretty much the bad guy from The Departed.
This was so interesting seeing this pop up. I just watched Black Mass with Johnny Depp for the first time and then I started digging up info about Whitey out of curiosity.
Whitey Bulger always interested me, he’s was also probably the only very well known Irish American gangster. Most people can think of several Italian gangsters, but the Irish and Jewish also had a very big reach in the American criminal underworld.
If you are into the subject there are a bunch. But hes definitely the most well known to the general public. Howie Winter, Pat Nee, Kevin Weeks in Boston. Jimmy Coonan, Mickey Featherstone in nyc. When you go back farther to the 20s and 30s there are a ton.
You forgot him sending guns to Ireland to the IRA ( Irish Republican Army) that was still at war with the British occupiers in Northern Ireland. He had bars all across Boston take donations from the local Irish American community.
I met him in new Orleans after he came out a bar called the Abby.we struck up a conversation as many locals do.he was wearing a lite jacket in the summer heat and humidity likely to conceal a handgun .he asked me the safest way to a hotel and asked me about fbi in the french quarter.when I told him they follow hippie's to jazz fest and Mardi gras to keep tabs on LSD he replied that's a horrible drug . when we arrived to the corner of 1241 Decatur he gave me 20$.he had very cold eyes.
When I saw his picture in the news paper the times picayune I knew it was him .his main hideout near the end of the world what we call the gulf of Mexico is what the fbi stated in the. Article.but I don't condone woman killers or confidential informant's
How do you know it was Bulger? He was hiding out in Grand Isle in the mid-90's. But the FBI would have only cared about hippies and LSD during the 70's. I used to work on Decatur. Kind of hard to imagine why he would have been in the Quarter all by himself during the years that he was supposedly running South Boston. Could have been a random tourist that just looked like him, honestly.
This dude was murdered within 8hrs after being transferred to Hazelton federal prison in WV. He had the spotlight in WV news for the next few months following his murder. His murder was a inside job. That's what happens when you snitch. 😂
He was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps. The Army gave the option to those who didn’t want to be Air Force within a 5 year span (1947-1952) to get out. The Air Force didn’t start taking recruits until 1952, and Whitey slipped through the cracks.
You should read a little bit about the MK Ultra experiment. The govt essentially tortured the participants and left their minds horribly altered afterwards. The Unabomber was in the program as well
The Industrial National Bank is in Providence, not Pawtucket. It's in the heart of downtown and we call it the Superman Building now. Just a fellow Rhode Islander clearing things up.

From what I understand, Jimmy Bulger did not see "Black Mass" and absolutely refused to because he called it "a work of fiction". Johnny wanted to meet him one-on-one before he began filming so he could get a better feel for the character, but Bulger denied the interview. Johnny has always wanted to meet the historical people he's portrayed so he could get a better feel for that person, and the first one that comes to my mind is George Jung (for the movie "Blow"). I wish Johnny and Jimmy had met because that would have been a pretty interesting interview, but I guess it's not really surprising that it didn't happen.
Whitey and the unabomber both had MK-ULTRA experiences in Boston. Whitey was on 60 minutes as the MOST WANTED MAN, September 9, 2001, talk about luck of the Irish.
Rear Window is such a great film! During college at Doane University, we had something called Interterm. We would take a single class for three weeks between the fall and spring semesters. For my freshman year, I took Films of Alfred Hitchcock and we watched Rear Window as part of the set. He's now my favorite director!
I think they used to, though. There was a baseball team called the Boston Beaneaters for years in the 1800s and early 1900s. They changed their name to the Braves, eventually moving to Milwaukee and then to Atlanta.
I worked in the Federal Building in my county & walked by the 10 Most Wanted posters every day on my way to my office. I always noticed Whiteys poster because he didn’t look very terrifying. One thing I did notice was that his poster remained up after he was captured, Johnny Depp made the movie & he was killed in prison. I think someone dropped the ball at the FBI.😂
When you look at the evidence that was found in WB's apartment in California - you know John Connolly helped Bulger getting set up in California. $800K - and 250 lbs of guns and ammo - Connolly handled the logistics.

He was murdered within 8 hrs of arriving at the prison and he was left alone with three inmates, prison officials had to be in on the hit.

You'd think he would have left the country instead of spending 15 years in the same apartment in Cali

What a crazy criminal, someone who seemingly adapts to all types of different scenarios!
His life is straight out of classic gangster films.

Being a senator and a mobster is the same thing. The only difference is one is legal.
And a priest too

True fact about Bulger, he never got to watched the episode of Weird History about him.
His involvement in the MK ULTRA project was a surprise.
Oh yes he took LSD 25 over 50 times.
Taking acid in prison sounds like a bad trip. No thanks.
I love your humor 😂😂 I knew all but 1 of those things and can't remember what it was lol

A weapons shipment was confiscated and the boat captain was one of the many people Bulger killed. Forget the name of the boat.
I love the nod at the Dropkick Murphies. They're my favorite punk band.
He also was the final boss of Final Fight. Just changed his name by one letter so no one would know.
Heck, if he were alive today, with a rap sheet like that, he could've been the mayor of Chicago, Portland, NYC or San Francisco!
