CATCHING MY LIMIT OF CRAYFISH!! (50+ YEAR OLD CRAYFISH???) KINA FORESTS, FATHER SON DIVE

- In this episode of Kai down under me and my son Ryder take the stabicraft out on the Moana to harvest some Kai.
Ryder takes his diving to another level hitting a 7mtr freedive and adds an extra weight to his belt.
I shoot a couple of Blue moki, a couple of Blue cod and wrangle in my limit of crayfish. The kina is plentiful and we were treated with some pretty good vis.
There is some bonus footage at the end of the video of an old crayfish I estimate to be over 50yrs of age, we ended up letting him go bacj to Tangaroa
All and all it was an awesome evening dive making memories with my Son
Thanks for watching guys

Never seen that many kina In one spot in my life
It's Barron here in a lot of places, the floor is pretty much a kina carpet in some areas
Mean mahi
Mean bro💯 can you do more catch and cook and eat bro🤣
Incoming brother🤙🤙🤙
Mauri Ora my maoris
Awesome videos bro! For a new fella getting into diving, I'd love to see a video of your full freediving setup and any tips you may have. Keep up the awesome work bro! Shout outs from upper hutt wellington!!
Thanks heaps💯💯New video is dropping tonight brother, which will run through some basic gear and tips etc, been a long time coming because I do get asked for those type of vids a lot, how's that for timing🤙
@@kaidownunder7870 mean timing hahah!! I’ll be tuning in brother! 🤙🏾
The man brother
Ultimate dream of mine
To have my sons with me in the moana
All the best for 2022 brother
💪🏾😎
Churr bro, it's mixed emotions having my boy in the water, awesome to have him with me but a bit harder to relax as we all know it can be dangerous out there.
He's slowly gaining my trust the more we head out though. All the best to you and the fam 🙌
Massive brutha
🙌🙌🙌
Subbed as bro
Great video guys mate have you thought of putting a go pro on your boy twice as much footage and seeing underwater through his see teaching and doing stuff with your boy ( PRICELESS )
Heya mate, yeah on this dive we had two go pros but unfortunately 1 didn't have an SD card in it🤦🤦 my bad haha, will definitely be more prepared next time
G'day again mate have you seen freedom 7 ( shark sheld ) have a look on here type it in see what you think . Cheers from down Under 🇭🇲 🤟 stay safe bro .
Awesome vid. Diving in Australia in Victoria.
Shout out from Bluff NZ, awesome to see content from the big V!!
Tu meke bro! Would love to come down for a dive with one day!
Looks sharkey....
Cuzzy I’m jealous
In there bro💯
Awesome stuff my bro... How long can u hold your breath for cus???
Beast 🔥🔥🔥
That's one thing I wanna get better at
Thanks bro, not very long at all, most of my dives are under a minute which is pretty average. If the body is feeling right and the water is calm an clean you can relax more by and hold for longer so just depends on a whole lot of things, it's something I'm working on always to get better at, more time under means you can see more and do more, keep it up bro and it will get better👌
Ka rawe bro manaaki Tangaroa ka manaaki a Tangaroa i a koe
Your playing Russian roulette mate. Great whites out there! 100%
Yea man, we seen a white breach the surface a couple of months ago maybe 1km from this spot.
The things we do for a feed eh😂
@@kaidownunder7870 yea mate just be careful bro. Especially with your son. Whites love spear fishers. The noise it makes and the scream of the fish. As you know this. Plenty of food out the water to 😂
Subbed
Thanks bro
Love the vids bro , is that the large or medium Wettie float boat brother
Large my bro, the small ones don't hold enough Kina😂
Tumeke ,let Koro koura live, prob had some epic battles.
He was a tired old boy, looked like he hadn't shed his shell in a very long time, I wonder if crays get to a certain age when they no longer moult🤔🤔🤔
Mannnn those kinna look like they are infesting the area! Can’t be good for the eco system
You would think so aye bro, but there's a pretty good balance here, and I guess you could say the video proves it. It's not just infested with kina, but fish life, crayfish and Paua as well. Most areas are like this down south, but there aren't a lot of divers that Adventure deep or get easy access to these areas.
They're definitely abundant though and we all know how kina Barron's can devastate a reef, that's why I never feel guilty about taking my share😋😋
Chur uncle shot for the mean content!
Shot Dad it was another mean dive
It's all you my man🤙
Awesome teaching your son. Too much.
another mean vid kind toko. be good to see a ruapuke mish. dummys beach. and slope point. churrr
One day bro, this summer is going to be Meke!!
BigJohn Desilva (may he rest in peace) always taught us not too leave our kina shells in the ocean, how would you feel if your neighbours got smashed up into pieces and just left there, would you still live in the vicinity.
Kina is not a sentient being and feel nothing, they do not experience consciousness, but that's not to say that they don't deserve respect which I do give to them...it is non sensical to treat them as if they know they have 'neighbours' but I understand the mentality some have to carry on their traditions.....And as far as I'm concerned it wouldnt be a bad thing if the kina did leave the vicinity...they are a pest (a tasty one) that destroys the reef and creates a Barron environment making it harder for other less populated species to survive. Smashing up those 15 or so Kina baited in some nice blue cod that fed my family and I don't regret it one single bit😄
I have a great respect for the Moana
And comments like this just turn me in to a more thoughtful hunter gatherer.
Take care💯
Hey bro top tip idk if you know this but taking crays into direct sunlight can blind them, or at least partially
Yeah for sure bro, I knew this.
The big boy we released back was actually going to come home with us, I caught him I'm about 5m depth right below our boat and chucked him on the deck once I broke the surface with him.
Thought he was just your average big buck. It wasn't untill about 30mins later when we finished the dive and I examined him that I realized just how old and special he was so I thought we would at least give him a chance of survival, I'm pretty sure he was blind to begin with anyway because he didn't even see me coming or feel out for me😂😂 old bugger
Thank you though bro, a comment like this shows your respect and care💯🤙🤙🤙
Average big buck where you're from Holy hahah I'm from hauraki gulf and our bucks ain't that big haha must be the cold south aye bro, we do get a few old packys though barnacles and all 😂 but yeah bro where I'm from alot of its in reality, pretty cleaned out so I do my best to look after it aye makes you appreciate it alot more
Chur brother
What app do u use for weather forecast/ swells etc.
Hey brother, I just use the windy App for everything, it's pretty accurate a few days out, but not so realiable any longer than that I've found
Eh braddah if you no mind me asking, but where you went buy the dive buoy from?
The yellow float bro?
That a float boat from www.wettie.co.nz 🙌
Awesome tool brother, easy to drag through the water with a heavy catch because of its design, good to keep fish out of the water (stops shark attraction) has a pocket in the cover to put things in.
@@kaidownunder7870 rajah das da one. Much mahalos my braddah take it easy dive safe🤙🏾
Na te video nei ko ahau teera aini haere ki te moana ruku ai..ataahua tou mahi e hoa mahi tikaana...rawe.
Nice one bro, how deep would you be going here?
In between 7-10mtrs,✌️
You the mantis bro ... wish i had your lungs👍
@@rayhawkins8843 start of the year I couldn't dive very deep at all, even 5mtrs was a mission, but after some research, a few educational videos and understanding the science of the breath hold ive come a long way quick.
Time in the water makes a difference 🙌
@@kaidownunder7870 tumeke brother thank you .. yep gota practice ... Tangaroa is just awesome .. i learnt to dive around gizzy n stil learning .. love your stuff
@@rayhawkins8843 Meke! I have Whanau in Gizzy, love to dive there one day, or Mahia
