had a firestick lite for years. it was great apart from small memory. just bought a max ultra top end firestick. cannot run many apps because of a bug that they dont seem ina hurry to fix. very dissapointed. wish there was a clear competitor to buy. thanks for what you do

Here's what I found for my 2nd Gen.: Device registered on : May 11, 2018, Software security updates: Through 2024.
Lately it has had issues and I am about to reset it completely to see if that fixes the problems.
I only have a few apps on it (3gb unused) but it keeps rebooting in the middle of a show. as I maneuver through the menus it will stop and then jump back to the Home page (if it doesn't restart).
If I remove power and do the manual restart several time, I sometimes can get through an entire episode of my favorite shows without too much hassle. Getting through another is almost too much to ask.
I have changed out the power supply with huge high-quality bricks, but that doesn't help.
I haven't turned off my NordVPN yet, but it's next on my list (short of the reset to factory option).
I really rarely use it (less than 3-hours a week), but it seems like it is on its last legs. Happy you told us about getting a trade-in and gift card offer. I might be using it soon.

I used the Amazon page and got it to reboot the stick. It appeared it didn't properly complete the latest S/W update. It seemed to work a little better for a couple more sessions then it got stuck in the "Optimizing system storage and applications" reboot loop. I couldn't ever get back to the "Reset" page.
After seeing that Amazon was going to offer me $3 discount, I refused and bought a new device.
I see where some people can increase the power capability of their 5v USB power source, but I have been using a 2.5A brick for years, so when my device broke it was a done deal. I opened the case and saw the main CPU was reaching 72⁰C. That's not a happy camper and evidence of an internal failure.

2nd Gen 4K.
1 week after purchase - back cover slides off on its own occasionally.
2 months after purchase -back cover slides off all the time, never stays on and now when on You Tube or similar it skips forward 8 videos on its own and often the remote will lose contact.
How many of us just put up with it and suffer the poor workmanship of the Fire sticks.
I don't want any stinkin' updates. They screw up the interface by adding crap, similar to visual spam. I'm glad I froze mine.

However, please note that when you follow the video and get to the DNS portal, it won't pop up but that's ok, simply follow the rest of the video.

Has anyone experienced recently random issues while reading video files from a Nas ?
Such as unexpected closures of the reader.
What reader are you using? If you're not using VLC Player on your Fire TV, I suggest checking it out.
@@FireTVSticks Using Vlc or MxPlayer. They both worked fine. Nas is ok.
Same issue on two kind of firesticks.
Playing from tablet or phone is ok.
@FireTVSticks I use both Vlc and Mx Player. NAS seems ok with phone or tablet.
They used to work perfectly fine until a few months.
