I am a syrian and i know exactly what he meant by this, all youtubers who came to syria were forced by the government to say what the government and the regime want and they didn't film the real picture of the society and the real situation there!, yes theroy was influenced but in a less degree when he said that the country is recovering, this is bullshit! The economy, democracy, regime policy are going crazy to ruin and destruct what is left from syria!
I'm watching a year late. The irony of the tour guides' life as she was a granddaughter of Palestinians that immigrated to Syria in 1948 when Israel took it over, and now lives in war torn Syria, unable to leave because of her mixed citizenship. And now, after October 7th, her grandparents' homeland of Palestine is now also being destroyed. How she remains positive and even a shining light in her corner of the world is awe inspiring.
@@hata6290 what happened on October 7 is that the dictatorship of Hamas, whose election was literally funded by Israel and who then cancelled all future elections, attacked and killed 1000+ Israeli citizens. After 70+ years of living in an open-air prison where even the water is toxic. After decades of being bombed. So now Israel has brutally slaughtered 50,000+ Palestinian civilians as if it's somehow justified I get what your question was implying. Check yourself

I agree. She has a beautiful heart. I live in Indonesia. Dogs suffer and even die here because a large portion of the people with the majority religion in this country don't appreciate dogs at all. As a westerner who no longer sees Syria in the news, this video has been a stark realisation that we as westerners have never truly known Syria. And it’s because of this that we have missed out on its utter beauty, and the loving kindness of its peoples.
It actually scary how much knowledge people lack about the region (middle east) , like my classmate did not realize until last year that the Persia and the persians from history books are Iran and its people
I'm sorry, but the people of the West, especially the Americans, are as responsible for the war in the Middle East as their government. How can you keep quiet about the atrocity that has happened in the Middle East? Not being curious or completely indifferent to your own country's policies in war zones means you approve of what they are doing or you just don't care about the future of these people or this country you don't even know. How many Americans could locate Iraq or Syria on a map? How many Americans could explain the country's religious differences, its past, the reasons why there are conflicts? Rare...and yet the Wikileaks affair proved that the US got involved in this war for economic reasons only. The irony is that Julien Assange is convicted for wanting to speak the truth and Bush/Obama end their lives quietly without any problems. You are as much responsible (the western people) not because you agree, I know that the majority do not agree with their decisions, but because you do not give a damn about this region, that you keep silent and that you see this population as terrorists when they are the main victims of these religious extremists.

@@milesb2111 Of course! Russia and Iran have as much or more responsibility in the Syrian conflict. I mentioned this in another post but my comment was more directed at the west, european/american type. But yes Russia is greatly responsible too. I'm not pro-assad, I hate him but I'm sick of people not caring more about the world just because they live well. We don't know what can happen tomorrow.
As a teacher in the Netherlands I can't wait to show this video in my social studies class. Watching this gave me goosebumps and I think it's so important for everyone to see this side of a beautiful country with even more beautiful people. And if only one student would get inspired by Ghaiida's kindness like I did then it would be worth it.

I visited Syria before the war, spent one month there, driving all over the country. Been to all the places that were in the documentary, seeing them so destroyed breaks my heart, what fills me with hope is that the people are still welcoming and eager to show beauties of their country. I've never experienced more welcoming people in my life. Hope they get to rebuild their country and more visitors can experience syrian hospitality.

I am from Damascus, and I really thank you for showing our country to the world. The media always has a bad picture of Syria. I have not seen my country Syria since 2013 as I had to flee the war, and now I live in Canada. Everyone is welcoming here, and Canadian people made me feel at home again. I will go to Syria one day and contribute to rebuilding it again.
I'm a Syrian refugee, I've been out of Syria 9 years ago and I could not go back. I want to go back and see my home land so bad but I can't, and seeing this video made me happy but sad, I'm crying. I hope one day I will be able to go back and help build it and see it grow.
I feel so stupid and naive because whenever I imagined Syria all I could visualize was destroyed buildings, crying children, hopeless eyes and nothing beyond that. Im in syria for vacation rn cuz im syrian and yea there are a bunch of destroyed buildings but there is always kids outside playing soccer. There is alot of gunshots there tho like just yesterday we had two cars pull up to my grandparents house and they just sprayed there guns. Like 500 bullets prob went out of those guns. But me and my 2 cousins just ran inside cuz we were outside playing soccer ( i saw the cars ) and just ran inside and started laughing cuz it happens like every month. There food there is soooo good though like if you go there and go to a place called Divino or Chocolake, you will have the best food you have ever tasted.
Got shivers down my spine, because that is what I am missing in the western culture more and more. Just speak truth without any agenda in mind. Just honest and pure words. Loved that guy!
Palmyra hit the hardest. Specially knowing the story of the archeologist “Khaled Alasaad” who protected Palmyra’s treasures and refused to give their location to ISIS, which lead to his beheading. There are so many stories to be told about the braveness of the Syrian people and the heroes within them who have sacrificed their lives to protect their country. Thank you for showing the world how beautiful our country remains, all the love from Syria ❤️
This documentary should be shown at United Nations hearings instead of some non-relevant speakers like royals. A documentary recorded from a non-political position, just pure humanity. I have seen so many videos in my life. I'm from the US (I'm 41) and what I saw on the news and have been fed to believe is that Syria is a bad place. Seeing this documentary of your visit brought me to tears. The people there have the largest hearts and were so excited to see you. They truly are some amazing people. We could learn a lot from them. Much love.
Is not about good or bad. There are both of it at the same time. In Syria there was a Regime and still is, is just that there are many Innocent People which got caught in between. People still support Assad tho. The video didn't talk about the political problems, but there are a lot of them.

@@bazingapuzza it's because they have to, i lived there most of my life and thank God I got out, you do not have freedom of speech there, if you don't say what they want you to, you get punished. And if you are in another part of a country that is controlled by another power, you also have to agree with them otherwise you get punished. Most of the people are innocent, but others are forced to be bad, and some are just bad.

There’s a pain in Ghaidaa’s voice that is just indescribable, and the way she is bubbly and positive… I don’t think I’ve ever in my life experienced someone so special. I can’t explain it. As you said Thomas, she is a superhero. Thomas, your story telling is spectacular. The way you show us these places- it’s exactly what I wanted to do when I went to study but it’s something I haven’t yet been able to do. These videos just make that fire burn even brighter to go and do.
literally a week ago I started wondering and asking people around me : "How is Syria doing now?". Also started hearing stories of Syrians who wanted to get back.
So glad that you humanize these areas of the world, all too often western culture sees a country in war and just assumes the worst. Sharing stories and their humanity allows for more bridges to be built and less stigma across culture. Something we dearly need at this point in time.
I have to be honest, I’m American and my first thought when I came across this documentary was “ never in a million years would I go to Syria I would be scared to death” after watching this I feel absolutely ashamed and heartbroken to have thought that way. It was incredibly eye opening and heartwarming to see how welcoming they were After everything that Syria and it’s beautiful people have endured.
Never believe what the mainstream media say about other countries. They love to make the united states citizens fear of the world.. for we don't connect with people outside of the united states and see the world

Today Syria has been liberated from half a century of oppression and war crimes committed by the Assad regime. It feels surreal and powerful knowing all these destroyed places you show in the video have now been freed and there's hope for a better future for Syria and Syrians. It's really amazing to know and feel that people like Ghaida and their hopes and dreams weren't for nothing, that their dream was realized today, and the world is all the more happy for it. I remember visiting Syria with my mother and brother i think in 2004 and it was soooo beautiful and very peaceful, Muslims and Christians were living together and it was a destination for a relaxing vacation, inshallah Syria will heal up and become like what it used to be and better
When we talk about Palmyra, we have to talk about Khaled al-Asaad, an archaeologist and the head of antiquities at Palmyra. He helped evacuate the city and helped hide the artifacts. Unfortunately he was captured by Daesh, tortured to disclose the location of the artifacts - which he didn't do - and publicly beheaded. He is the protector of Palmyra and part of the reason, why there's still some left. Bless his soul, may he find peace and watch over Palmyra from where he is now.

My grandmother is syrian and I always dreamt of her showing me around damascus as soon as the war ended. Sadly, she died a few months ago, and I was never able to experience Syria with her. I hope that soon I can go, and I can honor her and find that missing part of myself. Thank you for showing me a little bit of the place I'd only ever seen in my dreams.

@Nikil Cygnet It's mostly gone, there's still bombing that happens randomly but not a daily thing. I went there last year for 20 days and only heard a bomb on my last day, the people I was with said it was Israel bombing a military base so there's no worries only the Syrian government bombed the people.
My parents are from Syria and immigrated to the US in the 80s. I used to spend every summer in Aleppo, and my last trip was 2010, one year before the war. Seeing some of these sites broke my heart. The people of Syria are so resilient. My mom and dad recently went to Aleppo back in May, and they had a great time. I’m itching to go visit.

One of my professors, who used to travel extensively and who traveled to Syria and many other Arab and non Arab countries, used to tell us how beautiful Syria and its people were and how rare it was to meet people with as much kindness, hospitality and courage as Syrians. Yea my Middle Eastern Studies professor also traveled there almost every year from the early '00s all the way up to a year before the Arab Spring happened. Syria was also one of his favorite countries to visit. He said the people were/are so welcoming and are very proud of their rich culture. They way he described how beautiful cities like Raqqa and Damascus were and seeing how they're basically in ruins today makes me sad.

I cried multiple times throughout this video, I grew up in Al Zabadani Syria but had to leave with my family when I was ten, we managed to become refugees in Canada and secure a safe and comfortable life, now as a twenty year old adult watching this video of my childhood home brought tears to my eyes. Knowing that I will never return to the same Syria that I so desperately miss and adore and that it will take decades to repair the physical damages and eons to heal the emotional damage breaks my heart, with that being said I know that Syrians are strong people and they will persevere and they will build an even bigger and better Syria for future generations to come.

I am from Iraq living in Sweden, but I have travelled to Syria when I was young before the war started and I can say Syria was so beautiful. I remember going on a road trip to different cities in Syria with my family and relatives. We travelled in a van and saw so many things, the nature, waterfalls straight out of a disney story and Bedouins (people living in the deserts). Although my memory is not clear from then because it was about 12 years ago I remember so clearly the time we went to an outdoor restaurant around mountains and greenery. It was so beautiful words cannot describe it, it had a river going through the restaurant and the comfort I felt there was unreal. There was an old man with a tabla (a kind of drum) and all the kids were singing with him and having fun. Syria was full of liveliness and laughter. I cried so many times while watching this, it felt personal even though I am from Iraq and not Syria. It breaks my heart how the media view us from the middle east, but I hope more people will see this side of Syria and the whole middle east. Behind every war, trashy governments and politicians we are still humans just like everyone on this planet, we are just people trying to live and exist. Aside from that like said in the video, we from the middle east have hope for a brighter and better future. I hope one day I am able to contribute to rebuilding the middle east for its people, traditions and culture. Thank you so much Yes Theory for showing a side of the middle east many people have not seen, you are making a much needed change by doing this.

I had a student from Syria. She had recently moved to Malaysia back then, while the war was still on. She always had this sad face, and was a girl of few words. I knew she missed her home and life terribly. Whenever I looked at her, I could only imagine her feelings and prayed for her silently.
My mum used to take me to Syria (Damascus and Sednayah) every summer on holiday from Lebanon back in the late 90s when I was 6-8 years old and I consider myself so lucky. It was such a beautiful country with a wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, humble people. I have photos from my holidays there and when I look back I tear up, thinking of what the country has become. Thank you so much for this video, for showing the world a glimpse of what it was like long ago. ❤️ I really hope the Syrian people will rebuild and overcome history.

As a Syrian who has not been back to Syria in over a decade, this was an emotional rollercoaster and arguably the best RUclips video I have ever seen. It shares some of the most important stories on the planet, shedding light on the experiences of those who have suffered possibly the worst injustices of this generation. I’m sure every Syrian that yearns to go back will have the emotional rollercoaster I had watching this, but humanity in general will benefit tremendously from this as well. Bravo.

If this youtuber didn't not take a permission from the dictatorship regime, he wouldn't been able to enter the country, thats why he never mentioned the regime’s crimes against its people when they demanded freedom. Unfortunately, there are a lot of scum on RUclips and social media who promote visiting the country that was destroyed because of the mafia regime who killed and tortured people in prisons (search about Qaisar photos on internet). This regime killed journalists were trying to tell the true story of the Syrians, and bombed cities with chemical weapons, and all this is documented on the Internet, and everyone knows that the problem of the Syrians is not only ISIS or al-Qaeda because the leaders of these terrorist groups were in Syrian prisons and they were released to give a wrong image about the Syrian revolution. The problem of the Syrians is the head of the mafia who inherited power from his father And he wants to pass it to his mentally handicapped son. I just wonder how this youtuber would sleep after this disgraceful video he made to polish the image of the regime and promote coming to a country that even its people do not want to return to as long as the asshole Assad who murdered his own people is still in power! The girl who accompanied him on the trip said about the place which the protests against the dictator's regime started: "From here the problems started." but she didn't say that there were peaceful protesters there and were faced by guns.. she doesn't want to go back to her neighbourhood because she would remember the frightening thing that happened there, and she did not mention that Bashar al-Assad besieged her neighbourhood and starved civilians because they rose up against his oppression. You can search on internet about "the Siege of Yarmouk camp" Bashar Assad is the one whom destroyed the city of Palmyra and stole its antiquities in order to take revenge on the city because its people rose up against his oppression, so he sent ISIS and cooperated with them to loot the antiquities, and all of this is documented on the Internet. The Syrian regime is the one who bombed schools and destroyed hospitals over children heads in Homs and all the Syrian cities with the support of Iran, Hezbollah and Russia, but unfortunately all these information were ignored in this cheap video!! I am from Daraa, the last city that was visited in this video “Busra” I'm a former detainee and now I live in Europe. I witnessed the massacres that the regime committed in my city against my people before ISIS was existed.. and I will never return to Syria before Bashar al-Assad is killed. like me, there are 12 millions of Syrians refugees all over the world. To those who believed these kind of videos and started thinking to visit this country before the fall of the ruling mafia.. The amount of time, planning, effort, and determination to just fly down and arrive in Syria is beyond admirable on its own. But to produce a masterpiece. To capture so many emotions, moments, and history that the world is yet to even discover. To share stories of human beings who are living in pain, heart ache, yet have so much patience, so much positivity and will power to spread love to a stranger that is an outcast in a country that has lost everything. The strangers still choose to share their love, their time, their food. This documentary that is so well put together, is the epitome that anyone in the world that has a roof above their heads, electricity and a stable job should count their blessings on their hands and to think twice before complaining about non-sense, and to thank god and to be grateful for every day you wake up to see your family, neighbours and the echoes of children running and playing in the schools down your road. I hope this channel never ends and keeps spreading knowledge and truth. From the tour guides, the mosques, shops, schools, destroyed monuments, delicious food, and kind citizens everything is just amazing and indescribable. I had Syrian friends and I can really sense the sadness and the depression they feel when they remember the destruction of their home country. Yet, they still find ways to smile.
As a 20 year old Palestinian who’s lived the past 16 years in Syria, I can say I’ve benefited a whole lot from this well-made documentary. Even though the information laid in this video is nothing new to an insider like myself, but in some way it made me face my demons and process all the bottled up emotions/trauma that had built up over the last 12 years. As we’ve always run away from our dark realities and tried to distract ourselves by any means possible. Growing up in a war-torn country and pushing through the challenges which the war presented was never easy, and is forever traumatic. But at least it’s forced us to grow a thick thick skin that will help us dramatically throughout our futures(Ghaidaa is a great example for this). Watching this video made me so proud of myself and of our people for having such a positive spirit, even after all that we’ve been through. Really appreciate the work Yes Theory :) keep it up!
Bashar, please explain to me why Gaiida can not get a passport. I always was under the impression, that Jordan issued passports to Palestinians. I would think that she should be able to get either a Palestinian Passport, a Jordanian passport. Or that the Syrian Government could issue her a travel document. I would like to help this lovely young woman with such passion. Get a passport of some kind and fulfill her dream of travel.
@@michaelreid8857 So what happened after we got kicked out of our land in 1948 is that millions of Palestinians were scattered all over the Middle East(mostly Jordan, Syria and Lebanon), and a handful stayed in Palestine. Now legally and practically Palestinians are treated differently as opposed to the country they refuge in. So Palestinians living under the Palestinian State in Gaza and the West Bank(the people who never left Palestine) can get a Palestinian passport, which is still a weak passport. However we as refugees can’t go back and enter Palestine(even the free lands) since we’re considered a “threat” by Israeli forces who still forcefully control the borders. So at the end of the day refugees like Ghaidaa and myself are considered stateless, and are limited to whatever passport or legal work the countries we live in offer us. In the case of Syria we’re offered a passport that can only get us to a handful of countries around the world, since the Syrian passport itself is one of the weakest passports in the world… and the one issued to Palestinians is even slightly worse. So that’s what Ghaidaa spoke of in the video.

This is one of the best travel videos I've seen on RUclips. As a Lebanese who grew up abroad, I spent all my teenage summers in my village in the north called Tannourine. On so many occasions I had the opportunity to hop on the bus right outside my grandparent's house and go on an incredible roadtrip to Syria for less than $10. I cannot believe I never went. I lived in Syria before the war. I stood in some of the places shown in this video. I can not describe the state of emotions I am in right now. Always thought I would go back some day, but she's right; the burden of the ghosts would be too much to bear.

We don't even have faced any war since WW2 in India but we all are poor and struggling to survive everyday,forget about the needs we are just trying to earn for everyday to feed our stomach(just food) and our economy is terrible because of corruption'/s and unemployment,I can't imagine our living conditions if India is at war . As a Syrian and a Yes Theory fan for a long time, I've gotta say i was scared to watch this video even tho i have faith in Yes Theory to tell the full story, because I was constantly disappointed in the way my country is portrayed by media.. but watching it made my heart so happy.. i cried and smiled throughout the video and was so glad the people were shown the way they are! One of the people I love most was born in Damascus, I wasn't scared to watch this until 15 minutes in when I checked to see how long it was. I made it through but just barely. So beautiful. So sad. Uplifting and disheartening all at the same time! I'm grateful for being one of the few who is aware of Yes Theory and their willingness to bring us to places that very few even consider let alone actually act upon!! Even amongst all the destruction there is still an incredible beauty to the country that needs to be shared!!!
Every time Ghaidaa spoke and smiled with pure joy, I got goosebumps. I recognized a pure soul that has quite possibly been through the storm yet her heart remained soft and humble better yet it is oozing kindness and the need to give back and help others.
I was 5 when the war began in Syria. I'm not from there, but I felt a very deep sadness begin to fester a few months into the war. I remember my dad doing his morning ritual of listening to the radio while brewing the coffee. On NPR, there was always a story about something major happening in Syria. I'm 19 now, and for the first time, that sadness has faded into joy. *Today is December 8th, 2024* and after 12 days of fighting, the rebel group, HTS, has toppled the Bashar Al-Assad regime. I think it's safe to say the Battle for Syria is over, after 13 years. I didn't sleep last night because I wanted to be up for the announcement that Syria was free
I had the privilege of going back to Aleppo last year, after 7 years of living abroad in the New Jersey. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. My life changed for the better and it started a cultural revival in me after years of pretending I was “American.” Leaving your ethnic country at the age of 14 and going to a first world country really messes you up mentally. For years I felt like I was a citizen of nowhere because I pushed every bit of Syria out of me when I first left. People think America fixes all your problems, and it might in some ways, but it also installs new ones, like this identity crisis that made me depressed and hit rock bottom. I’ve never had financial problems, and I’m thankful for that, so I’m not going to sit here and tell you I’ve had it the hardest. But I guarantee you most if not all Syrians who left will tell you they feel empty. It hits harder mentally than it does materialistically Seeing my family after these years was also scary. I thought they’re going to judge me and make me feel out of place, but I was disproven constantly as they welcomed me with open arms and we all became best friends again. The feeling of going to your aunt’s house to chat with her and have lemonade just doesn’t exist abroad. The pride that you get from looking at all these amazing landmarks, mosques, etc. is just not the same through a screen. I finally realized that Syrian hospitality is in my blood and I’m so happy for my rediscovery. I’m going back next year and I’m planning on staying for several months, and I could not be more excited wow this was long lol

A major root problem in America is the lack of connection to our ancestors and any kind of history or culture beyond 200 years. We come from everywhere and nowhere. Our roots are shallow and soaked in blood. For many the Americas are just one big identity crisis. Hold onto what you have, what you spoke off. Those faces on those kdis as they found out you were a foreigner and the way they said i love you melted my heart. They are kinds inncoent souls who were born and raised in a war torn country yet their child like nature and kindness and curiosity still persists.
As a German who got to know a lot of Syrian refugees and who considers one Palestinian-Syrian family from Damascus as my extended family, I could never imagine the destruction and suffering this beautiful country and it's people lived through. All the Syrians I know love to tell me of their culture people and of the beauty of their homeland but they never really talk about the war and about how they fled the country. I know a few basic facts of course but I never really had the courage to ask them about their real experiences and their feelings. This video opened my eyes and showed me again how stron these people are. It hurts my heart to see the countries in shambles but I have faith and hope that Syria can heal in the future and that people can rebuild their homes.
As an american who grew up in Libya which has also been torn by civil war, i really appreciate this story of love and courage and hope. My parents went to Damascus in around 1975 and loved it. What a wonderful video.

I'm watching a year late. The irony of the tour guides' life as she was a granddaughter of Palestinians that immigrated to Syria in 1948 when Israel took it over, and now lives in war torn Syria, unable to leave because of her mixed citizenship. And now, after October 7th, her grandparents' homeland of Palestine is now also being destroyed. How she remains positive and even a shining light in her corner of the world is awe inspiring.

As a westerner who no longer sees Syria in the news, this video has been a stark realisation that we as westerners have never truly known Syria. And it’s because of this that we have missed out on its utter beauty, and the loving kindness of its peoples.

How can you keep quiet about the atrocity that has happened in the Middle East? Not being curious or completely indifferent to your own country's policies in war zones means you approve of what they are doing or you just don't care about the future of these people or this country you don't even know. How many Americans could locate Iraq or Syria on a map? How many Americans could explain the country's religious differences, its past, the reasons why there are conflicts? Rare...and yet the Wikileaks affair proved that the US got involved in this war for economic reasons only. The irony is that Julien Assange is convicted for wanting to speak the truth and Bush/Obama end their lives quietly without any problems. You are as much responsible (the western people) not because you agree, I know that the majority do not agree with their decisions, but because you do not give a damn about this region, that you keep silent and that you see this population as terrorists when they are the main victims of these religious extremists.

I mentioned this in another post but my comment was more directed at the west, european/american type. But yes Russia is greatly responsible too. I'm not pro-assad, I hate him but I'm sick of people not caring more about the world just because they live well. We don't know what can happen tomorrow.
As a teacher in the Netherlands I can't wait to show this video in my social studies class. Watching this gave me goosebumps and I think it's so important for everyone to see this side of a beautiful country with even more beautiful people. I visited Syria before the war, spent one month there, driving all over the country. Been to all the places that were in the documentary, seeing them so destroyed breaks my heart, what fills me with hope is that the people are still welcoming and eager to show beauties of their country. I've never experienced more welcoming people in my life. Hope they get to rebuild their country and more visitors can experience syrian hospitality.
Hopefully they start rebuilding after the fall of assad regime.

I am from Damascus, and I really thank you for showing our country to the world. The media always has a bad picture of Syria. I have not seen my country Syria since 2013 as I had to flee the war, and now I live in Canada. Everyone is welcoming here, and Canadian people made me feel at home again. I will go to Syria one day and contribute to rebuilding it again.

I'm a Syrian refugee, I've been out of Syria 9 years ago and I could not go back. I want to go back and see my home land so bad but I can't, and seeing this video made me happy but sad, I'm crying. I hope one day I will be able to go back and help build it and see it grow.

Im in syria for vacation rn cuz im syrian and yea there are a bunch of destroyed buildings but there is always kids outside playing soccer. There is alot of gunshots there tho like just yesterday we had two cars pull up to my grandparents house and they just sprayed there guns. Like 500 bullets prob went out of those guns. But me and my 2 cousins just ran inside cuz we were outside playing soccer ( i saw the cars ) and just ran inside and started laughing cuz it happens like every month. There food there is soooo good though like if you go there and go to a place called Divino or Chocolake, you will have the best food you have ever tasted.

Palmyra hit the hardest. Specially knowing the story of the archeologist “Khaled Alasaad” who protected Palmyra’s treasures and refused to give their location to ISIS, which lead to his beheading. There are so many stories to be told about the braveness of the Syrian people and the heroes within them who have sacrificed their lives to protect their country. When we talk about Palmyra, we have to talk about Khaled al-Asaad, an archaeologist and the head of antiquities at Palmyra. He helped evacuate the city and helped hide the artifacts. Unfortunately he was captured by Daesh, tortured to disclose the location of the artifacts - which he didn't do - and publicly beheaded. He is the protector of Palmyra and part of the reason, why there's still some left. Bless his soul, may he find peace and watch over Palmyra from where he is now.

I went there last year for 20 days and only heard a bomb on my last day, the people I was with said it was Israel bombing a military base so there's no worries only the Syrian government bombed the people.
My parents are from Syria and immigrated to the US in the 80s. I used to spend every summer in Aleppo, and my last trip was 2010, one year before the war. Seeing some of these sites broke my heart. The people of Syria are so resilient. My mom and dad recently went to Aleppo back in May, and they had a great time. I’m itching to go visit.

Yea my Middle Eastern Studies professor also traveled there almost every year from the early '00s all the way up to a year before the Arab Spring happened. Syria was also one of his favorite countries to visit. He said the people were/are so welcoming and are very proud of their rich culture. They way he described how beautiful cities like Raqqa and Damascus were and seeing how they're basically in ruins today makes me sad.

I cried multiple times throughout this video, I grew up in Al Zabadani Syria but had to leave with my family when I was ten, we managed to become refugees in Canada and secure a safe and comfortable life, now as a twenty year old adult watching this video of my childhood home brought tears to my eyes. Knowing that I will never return to the same Syria that I so desperately miss and adore and that it will take decades to repair the physical damages and eons to heal the emotional damage breaks my heart, with that being said I know that Syrians are strong people and they will persevere and they will build an even bigger and better Syria for future generations to come.

I am from Iraq living in Sweden, but I have travelled to Syria when I was young before the war started and I can say Syria was so beautiful. I remember going on a road trip to different cities in Syria with my family and relatives. We travelled in a van and saw so many things, the nature, waterfalls straight out of a disney story and Bedouins (people living in the deserts). Although my memory is not clear from then because it was about 12 years ago I remember so clearly the time we went to an outdoor restaurant around mountains and greenery. It was so beautiful words cannot describe it, it had a river going through the restaurant and the comfort I felt there was unreal. There was an old man with a tabla (a kind of drum) and all the kids were singing with him and having fun. Syria was full of liveliness and laughter.
I cried so many times while watching this, it felt personal even though I am from Iraq and not Syria. It breaks my heart how the media view us from the middle east, but I hope more people will see this side of Syria and the whole middle east. Behind every war, trashy governments and politicians we are still humans just like everyone on this planet, we are just people trying to live and exist. Aside from that like said in the video, we from the middle east have hope for a brighter and better future. I hope one day I am able to contribute to rebuilding the middle east for its people, traditions and culture.

I had a student from Syria. She had recently moved to Malaysia back then, while the war was still on. She always had this sad face, and was a girl of few words. I knew she missed her home and life terribly. Whenever I looked at her, I could only imagine her feelings and prayed for her silently.
My mum used to take me to Syria (Damascus and Sednayah) every summer on holiday from Lebanon back in the late 90s when I was 6-8 years old and I consider myself so lucky. It was such a beautiful country with a wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, humble people. I have photos from my holidays there and when I look back I tear up, thinking of what the country has become. Thank you so much for this video, for showing the world a glimpse of what it was like long ago. ❤️ I really hope the Syrian people will rebuild and overcome history.

As a Syrian who has not been back to Syria in over a decade, this was an emotional rollercoaster and arguably the best RUclips video I have ever seen. It shares some of the most important stories on the planet, shedding light on the experiences of those who have suffered possibly the worst injustices of this generation.
I’m sure every Syrian that yearns to go back will have the emotional rollercoaster I had watching this, but humanity in general will benefit tremendously from this as well. Bravo.

If this youtuber didn't not take a permission from the dictatorship regime, he wouldn't been able to enter the country, thats why he never mentioned the regime’s crimes against its people when they demanded freedom. Unfortunately, there are a lot of scum on RUclips and social media who promote visiting the country that was destroyed because of the mafia regime who killed and tortured people in prisons (search about Qaisar photos on internet).
This regime killed journalists were trying to tell the true story of the Syrians, and bombed cities with chemical weapons, and all this is documented on the Internet, and everyone knows that the problem of the Syrians is not only ISIS or al-Qaeda because the leaders of these terrorist groups were in Syrian prisons and they were released to give a wrong image about the Syrian revolution. The amount of time, planning, effort, and determination to just fly down and arrive in Syria is beyond admirable on its own. But to produce a masterpiece. To capture so many emotions, moments, and history that the world is yet to even discover. To share stories of human beings who are living in pain, heart ache, yet have so much patience, so much positivity and will power to spread love to a stranger that is an outcast in a country that has lost everything. The strangers still choose to share their love, their time, their food. This documentary that is so well put together, is the epitome that anyone in the world that has a roof above their heads, electricity and a stable job should count their blessings on their hands and to think twice before complaining about non-sense, and to thank god and to be grateful for every day you wake up to see your family, neighbours and the echoes of children running and playing in the schools down your road. God bless every one of you in the video shared and to who ever is reading. Tell your family you love them. Smile at all the simple things in life that we are so blessed to witness. I hope this channel never ends and keeps spreading knowledge and truth. From the tour guides, the mosques, shops, schools, destroyed monuments, delicious food, and kind citizens everything is just amazing and indescribable. I had Syrian friends and I can really sense the sadness and the depression they feel when they remember the destruction of their home country. Yet, they still find ways to smile.
As a 20 year old Palestinian who’s lived the past 16 years in Syria, I can say I’ve benefited a whole lot from this well-made documentary.
Even though the information laid in this video is nothing new to an insider like myself, but in some way it made me face my demons and process all the bottled up emotions/trauma that had built up over the last 12 years. As we’ve always run away from our dark realities and tried to distract ourselves by any means possible.
Growing up in a war-torn country and pushing through the challenges which the war presented was never easy, and is forever traumatic. But at least it’s forced us to grow a thick thick skin that will help us dramatically throughout our futures(Ghaidaa is a great example for this).
Watching this video made me so proud of myself and of our people for having such a positive spirit, even after all that we’ve been through.

I always was under the impression, that Jordan issued passports to Palestinians.
I would think that she should be able to get either a Palestinian Passport, a Jordanian passport. Or that the Syrian Government could issue her a travel document.

@@michaelreid8857 So what happened after we got kicked out of our land in 1948 is that millions of Palestinians were scattered all over the Middle East(mostly Jordan, Syria and Lebanon), and a handful stayed in Palestine.
Now legally and practically Palestinians are treated differently as opposed to the country they refuge in.
So Palestinians living under the Palestinian State in Gaza and the West Bank(the people who never left Palestine) can get a Palestinian passport, which is still a weak passport.
However we as refugees can’t go back and enter Palestine(even the free lands) since we’re considered a “threat” by Israeli forces who still forcefully control the borders.
So at the end of the day refugees like Ghaidaa and myself are considered stateless, and are limited to whatever passport or legal work the countries we live in offer us. In the case of Syria we’re offered a passport that can only get us to a handful of countries around the world, since the Syrian passport itself is one of the weakest passports in the world… and the one issued to Palestinians is even slightly worse. So that’s what Ghaidaa spoke of in the video.
It was an honorable visit for us. Thank you for coming to Syria and walking the streets and introducing people to the history, the antiquities and the current pains.

i began living under the poverty line about 20 years ago, so i am not required to help fund the Military Industrial Complex, anymore.
We don't even have faced any war since WW2 in India but we all are poor and struggling to survive everyday,forget about the needs we are just trying to earn for everyday to feed our stomach(just food) and our economy is terrible because of corruption'/s and unemployment,I can't imagine our living conditions if India is at war . As a Syrian and a Yes Theory fan for a long time, I've gotta say i was scared to watch this video even tho i have faith in Yes Theory to tell the full story, because I was constantly disappointed in the way my country is portrayed by media.. but watching it made my heart so happy.. i cried and smiled throughout the video and was so glad the people were shown the way they are! Just kind, life loving, big hearted and hard working humans who are trying thier best to smile everyday despite the hardships of the daily life.. so big thank you to Thomas for making this trip and telling our story! One of the people I love most was born in Damascus, I wasn't scared to watch this until 15 minutes in when I checked to see how long it was. I made it through but just barely. So beautiful. So sad. Uplifting and disheartening all at the same time! I'm grateful for being one of the few who is aware of Yes Theory and their willingness to bring us to places that very few even consider let alone actually act upon!! Every time Ghaidaa spoke and smiled with pure joy, I got goosebumps. I recognized a pure soul that has quite possibly been through the storm yet her heart remained soft and humble better yet it is oozing kindness and the need to give back and help others.
I was 5 when the war began in Syria. I'm not from there, but I felt a very deep sadness begin to fester a few months into the war. I remember my dad doing his morning ritual of listening to the radio while brewing the coffee. On NPR, there was always a story about something major happening in Syria. I'm 19 now, and for the first time, that sadness has faded into joy.
*Today is December 8th, 2024* and after 12 days of fighting, the rebel group, HTS, has toppled the Bashar Al-Assad regime. I think it's safe to say the Battle for Syria is over, after 13 years. I didn't sleep last night because I wanted to be up for the announcement that Syria was free
I had the privilege of going back to Aleppo last year, after 7 years of living abroad in the New Jersey. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. My life changed for the better and it started a cultural revival in me after years of pretending I was “American.” Leaving your ethnic country at the age of 14 and going to a first world country really messes you up mentally. For years I felt like I was a citizen of nowhere because I pushed every bit of Syria out of me when I first left. People think America fixes all your problems, and it might in some ways, but it also installs new ones, like this identity crisis that made me depressed and hit rock bottom. I’ve never had financial problems, and I’m thankful for that, so I’m not going to sit here and tell you I’ve had it the hardest. But I guarantee you most if not all Syrians who left will tell you they feel empty. It hits harder mentally than it does materialistically
Seeing my family after these years was also scary. I thought they’re going to judge me and make me feel out of place, but I was disproven constantly as they welcomed me with open arms and we all became best friends again. The feeling of going to your aunt’s house to chat with her and have lemonade just doesn’t exist abroad. The pride that you get from looking at all these amazing landmarks, mosques, etc. is just not the same through a screen. I finally realized that Syrian hospitality is in my blood and I’m so happy for my rediscovery. I’m going back next year and I’m planning on staying for several months, and I could not be more excited

A major root problem in America is the lack of connection to our ancestors and any kind of history or culture beyond 200 years. We come from everywhere and nowhere. Our roots are shallow and soaked in blood. For many the Americas are just one big identity crisis. Hold onto what you have, what you spoke off. It's a beautiful gift that your parents and ancestors have given you. A place to truly call Home.

Your 45 minutes video made all of us cry and heart broken, imagine the amount of pain that these people are going through on daily bases for the past decade .
Those faces on those kdis as they found out you were a foreigner and the way they said i love you melted my heart. They are kinds inncoent souls who were born and raised in a war torn country yet their child like nature and kindness and curiosity still persists.
As a German who got to know a lot of Syrian refugees and who considers one Palestinian-Syrian family from Damascus as my extended family, I could never imagine the destruction and suffering this beautiful country and it's people lived through.
All the Syrians I know love to tell me of their culture people and of the beauty of their homeland but they never really talk about the war and about how they fled the country.
I know a few basic facts of course but I never really had the courage to ask them about their real experiences and their feelings.
This video opened my eyes and showed me again how stron these people are. It hurts my heart to see the countries in shambles but I have faith and hope that Syria can heal in the future and that people can rebuild their homes.
