I just did my first Platinum Palladium print from an 8X10 negative. I came out really flat as far as contrast. Watching your series on digital negatives is pretty involved but the results speak for themselves.
I've been debating whether to try the Palladium process for my photos, but after seeing the effort and care you have put into this video series, it wouldn't be right not to. Thanks a lot.
Thank you Bill for all the effort. I have been watching all parts and i am in the process of building a new setup for negatives alt printing. I was working on a windows pc with other negative creating process that uses curves on photoshop for a couple of years and always ended up chasing my tail trying to print an accurate digital negative ... finally after looking at you’re videos I decided to ditch for a new Mac system and learn to work with QTR. It’s a steep learning curve for me but this system looks firm and flexible and I can have complete control on ink curves and I can calibrate the process with my x rite 810 densitometer. I hope to get my setup back on track fast. You’re videos came just in time! Thank you for that! Oded
Great Bill! I've seen all your videos to learn how to make a dn to print wit palladium/platinum tech / QTR / Quick dn software. Maybe you have said in one of your first videos but I didn't remember : which kind of black ink do you suggest to use with the Epson in the entire process : matte or photo one ? does it makes some difference? Other question : if I have P800 modified with K6 Piezo Carbon can I use these set to create a correct dn ? thank you !! Romano ( from Italy )
Bill, thank you for this series. You have demystified making Digital Negative. I can't wait to make negatives for Brown prints as well. Thank you also for introducing me to Richard Boatman's excellent programs for how to fine tune our negatives.
Hi Bill, thank you very much for the workshop series dedicated to digital negative printing through the QTR engine. I don't know if you can find it interesting, it would be nice to have a series also dedicated to direct digital printing in BN with QTR, with construction of curves, linearization and correction of dominates due to cyan and magenta inks. The Epson P800 is a great machine for making such prints even with its original inks. At this point there would be a specific integration of this series. Thanks again for your attention and for your work, very valuable. a greeting giacomo
Thank you so much for doing this series! Its 2024 and I am just getting into QTR. It doesn’t seem like many things have changed since you made these tutorials but I am wondering if QTR and QuadToneProfiler-Pro DN is still the best way to go.
Thank you so much Bill, your a godsend. Hopefully in the next while I can do my social documentary photos in Palladium because of your efforts. Without you it would have been impossible for me to do digi negs. I will try help spread the word about your channel,
Great series, really has me wanting to get producing alternative process photography again. FYI: Healing brush with content aware is much better than the ole clone stamp.
Thank you. I appreciate you watching and commenting. And yeah, I’m using more content aware and healing brush, but there is still the times when it doesn’t do what I want. Hard to teach old dogs new tricks.
Good morning Bill First of all, congratulations on your videos, they are the best when it comes to digital negatives. I have been printing in the dark room for about 5 years, before I photographed with a digital system. I have a large archive of digital files and I would like to start printing with the digital negative system on silver paper. I have no printers anymore, so I have to buy an Epson printer. What I don't understand is whether I can use Epson inks, or should I use Piezogrphy inks? Do you recommend an 8-color Epson printer, or more colors? Thanks Andrew
I am a bit late to the party, but looking forward to digging in deeper to your channel Bill, and getting down to improving my prints when I am back in my attic-cum-darkroom. Thanks for the insight and inspiration.
You can either scan them on a transparency, flatbed scanner or you can take pictures of them on the light table with your digital camera. Try this link and see if it helps. I know I’m shooting black and white negatives in it, but you can also put color transparencies on the light table as well. Good luck! Dear Bill, thank you for producing this 5 parts of your interesting work. I hope that QuadToneRip will work soon with my Epson P900. I've read the Book of Peter Myrhar, but now i better understand the whole process of digital negatives. Thank you for all!!! Best regards Hans
Hi Bill, Thank you for all your hard work, please remind me of the tool(s) you use for screen calibration. Thank you, you can also contact me on Patreon.
Hello and thank you for signing up for Patreon! The tool I use is called color munki from X Rite. I do not think they make that one anymore but they do make one called the i1display. I think it runs $150-$170, but is well worth it. I calibrate every couple of weeks without fail.
Lovely, I am very excited. Before I proceed I have to unclog a black ink channel in my Epson 9880 using piezo cleaner:). If I can’t, I will have to convert it to piezography printer instead as I can supposedly do it with at least 6 channels open. I really hope it doesn’t come to that as this system allows me to utilize the printer in colour as well.
Great series, Bill. Many thanks for the huge amount of work that this took.
Thank you so much, Tony!
This lessons are amazing! Thanks a lot! It is nice to listen to you!
Thank you so much for saying so! And thank you for watching!
Thanks so much for sharing all your knowledge Bill. Much appreciated

So glad it helped, Brad. Good to get beyond this stuff so we can make more prints!
Great video Bill thank you for the effort of making it!
Brilliant.... you are the best... I'm your next Patreon

Thank you for your efforts in making this series. A lot of the mystery is gone.

Thank you! You will want to use regular photo black ink. The matte will work, but it will be that much more grainy.

Thats for the series Bill, took a lot confusion out of looking through books, look forward to more of your videos
Thanks for the great videos that you have made. It would be great to have another series with Richard's Pro version.
Me too, on P700 if it is possible.😇🇮🇹
Thanks!
Thanks Bill, Nice job.
Thank you
Really nice!! Very inspirational! Could you share where to find some UV boxes for the platinum prints?
All the best

How can I transfer transparency film images to paper or digital image files? Can someone help me?
It’ll be a lifesaver literally
