Not sure why the clarinet has fallen out of favor to many modern jazz musicians! It is such an expressive instrument and the soft vibrato sends chills up my spine, thanks to Victor, Ken, Eddie Daniels, and their mentors Buddy DeFranco, Tony Scott, Art Pepper, and of course Eric Dolphy on Base Clarinet!
It seems the focus of aspiring reed players remains with the saxophone. They all want to be Wayne Shorter or John Coltrane. It seems the clarinet has gone out of favour. Or perhaps it’s fashion? In Toronto, the home of Jazz FM 96.3, a station devoted to jazz, it’s a rare occasion that the host features a clarinet player. Tune in any time and you will hear no end of saxophone players, some great, some good, some just so-so. Please don’t misunderstand me. I also enjoy hearing great saxophone players...........Cannonball, Stitt, Sims, Rollins, Gordon and on and on. However, as a clarinet player, a lover of the instrument and an admirer of so many of the virtuoso clarinet players.......Goodman, Shaw, Fountain, Daniels, Peplowski, De Franco, Hall...........I find Jazz FM’s clarinet myopia tantamount to a dereliction of duty. I suppose they’re preaching to the converted.
@@maxverhagen3379 Thanks , Max. The name didn’t ring a bell but when I searched for him on RUclips I instantly recognized him. Yes. Great musician, for sure. In fact I had saved a couple of his clips from previous viewings. So many good musicians......... with no place to go. Damn this Covid!!
Two of the finest clarinetists around today playing the best ever slow dancing piece. 3 a.m. fine wine and a lovely lady...what could be better than that?
Beautiful. Wonderful. You all together, and each single one of you. Masterful. So modest - "In der Beschränkung zeigt sich der Meister", so to-the-point. Highest praise. Quite the discovery.
This is one of the most beautiful tunes - a love song - ever written. What's wrong with playing the melody before improvising. Bechet hit it on the nose when he said 'always make love to the melody.'
Very Nice ....although I prefer less notes. Michel Mosher ..... Dan Nimmer is the pianist; he plays with Wynton Marsalis as well. jacques deghorain ...... No winner; both very good.
Victor Goines is the winner !!! jeu plus sensible et phrasés plus mélodiques que Ken Peplowski qui a tout misé sur sa rapidité de jeu.......mais la musique n'est pas une course de vitesse !!!
I am 98 and have had a very full life but this music brings tears. Wish we had this type of music now!
Instrumentistas MARAVILHOSOS !!!

Extraordinary... Does anyone know this pianist?...
Dan Nimmer plays a lot of time in Marsallis orchestra
This looks like Ken is with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orch.
indeed. He and Victor are so similar in style. I still think Ken is the greatest in the world right now.

Missing the “real performance of benny” but it’s further perfect too
Fabulous. What clarinet do you play on Victor?
i think he plays a buffet greenline
沢山いるクラリネット奏者二人グッドマンの身も心もは聞いているデユオで、大ホールみたい

Mais le Son de Ken et de son 5 RV , timbré comme à l'époque swing sont superbes...
I doubt it was a contest😊
