    A lot of the comments here are dissing on the 3.5 L EcoBoost as compared to the Suburban. It sounds a lot like people who are talking without ever being in both. I have. The EcoBoost, and I was a non-believer at first, puts you in your seat in this thing. And it delivers 420 lb/ft at 2500. It has 4 way independent suspension and auto leveling. Suburban...solid rear axle and no auto level. Meaning when you tow, the truck sags. Expedition levels out. Ford also has a fully useable back seat without cramping legs. Suburban cant touch that either. A lot of people accusing TFL of being ford fanboys when yall sound like GM fanboys. Try them both and form your own opinion.

      but see...your just as biased. the turbo 6 is the same as a v8, same power, same mpg, two different routes (v8 with cylinder deactivation vs v6 with turbo). the suburban stomps the ford on interior look and exterior design. the ford stomps the GM on rear suspension and auto leveling. it's actually pretty funny, the GM looks new and futuristic, and it uses old outdated parts (especially that suspension), and the ford looks like a 2002 vehicle, that uses pretty impressive tech (auto load leveling for 1).

    @Stuka87 10 лет назад +19

    The old engine was a 5.4L, not a 5.3L. But while it may only be a 15% improvement in fuel economy, it has WAY more power than that 5.4L triton put out.

    • @edwardsr70
      @edwardsr70 10 лет назад

      Ford's Website shows the engine choices. They are still going to offer the 5.4L V-8 on the Expedition. The vehicle they drove had the 3.5L Ecoboost and they failed to mention the other engine is still being offered on the newer model.

    We just purchased a 2015 EL and it has way more power than our 2010 5.4 v8 (non EL as well). Only 300 miles on it so far and it is averaging 3mpg better in combined driving even with the bigger/heavier truck. I was highly skeptical about the ecoboost in a vehicle this heavy, but Ford has made a believer out of me.

      It works though... since 2003 the Expedition has been reliable and has good pickup while driving. Gas is the only downside to these things. I find it easier to park and drive than a lot of cars, and definitely has a better turning radius than my Volvo. But when I drove a suburban it just felt way bigger, although it wasn't, the seats weren't as snug, they were basically a couch cushion wide and had no support. The suburban also felt very wiggly compared to an Expedition and although it soaks up the smaller bumps better than an Expedition, the steering was way to mushy. I haven't been in a new one yet but they are prettier than an Expedition, they just don't have the practicality. The third row in a new suburban is a hill and doesn't suit adults.

    • @TomDeVito
      @TomDeVito 10 лет назад

      Yeah the suburan has its flaws i admit. But again ever suv and car will have something good and bad about. The important thing is the 3rd row is usable in the regular length Expedition which competes with the Yukon and Tahoe. The 3rd row is useless in the GM twins unless you go with the longer wheelbase models and there's still that raised load floor in back with that useless storage bin. Expedition wins towing, interior volume and power over the Tahoe and Yukon.

    The Tahoe and Suburban are superior over the Expedition. Sales say everything. Chevy sold 10,000 + Tahoes in the month of July. The Suburban sold around 5,000 units. Expedition only sold around 4,000 units. But if you want a great full size SUV look at the GMC Yukon, especially the Denali!

    Doesn't matter guys. They know they have at least semi consistent market share with this version of the expedition and navigator. They're not going to do a full update until they've made their nut with the new F150, then you can bet those two are going to be the first to get the aluminum makeover, probably saving more than 1000 pounds. I also read that an updated 3.5 ecoboost is coming with 385+ hp and 460+ tq. Sounds like a winner to me. They know what they're doing, and when the update comes (probably in '17) they'll knock it out of the park.

    I would definitely choose a Tahoe/Yukon over this Expedition. They definitely did improve the Expedition, but they didn't completely overhaul it. And frankly, that's what it needed.... I would be worried that those twin turbos would go out after 6 or 7 years, and then it would be $$$$$$$$$....

    Coming from a Ford guy I think Ford really missed the boat on this one. This isn't a redesign, it's a refresh. There's hardly anything new about it. The ecoboost is nice and should have been offered years ago. Ford needs to start on a clean sheet of paper if they want to compete with the Yukon and Suburban. My dad has a 07' Expedition EL and while it was an awesome truck back then, it's pretty hard to see any major differences between it and these new ones aside from the new front end and new gauge cluster. Sorry Ford, but you didn't even really try this time.

    I have an 07 EB EL 4x4. It has been BORINGLY reliable. I now have 212K miles on it and the engine and tranny are as strong as ever. On the highway, at 55mph with cruise, I get a RELIABLE 22mpg and about 20 at 65mph.
    It also handles like a 8000lb sportscar compared to the suburban, which feels like the family "tractor" by comparison...I drove both prior to buying. I won't upgrade until I hit at LEAST 300k. At the rate I am going, that will be spring of 16. My interior is still in GREAT shape and have not rattles or issues, body is also rust free. I do have an issue with paint peel on the tailgate though. At this point, no rust as the primer is still in tact. I will get that addressed this fall.

      I have the previous gen (an 04 4.6 2WD) I can get 27 highway doing around 70 if I am careful (usually not and get around 23), and the best I've ever gotten on a tank (average speed of about 56) was 32. I understand how people get so many low figures when it comes to the Expedition, but I feel like the general population just thinks GAS GUZZLER and gets scared away. Yeah it's slow, yeah it's big, and yeah if I'm towing it doesn't really understand what third gear is (jumping from 2nd to 4th) but it's a great car. I can fly down dirt roads and across fields all day long without breaking anything, I can hit speed bumps at 50 and everything is okay, and at the end of the day I can still kick the tail out on asphalt and be able to control it. What more could a person want? Oh yeah, it does also have the 5 star crash test rating too, so seriously, what more is there to want out of them?

    The Expedition will be fine. Only flaw I would say is the folding the second row. The Tahoe/suburban uses electric power folding on the second row. Just look how much of a hard time Nathan had just figuring out how to fold it. 4:58
    I am not sure about the Navigator since it dropped in V8 for twin-turbo v6 producing less HP than the Escalade and Yukon Denali. Pretty sure the Navigator lost big time. If the Navigator had the 6.2L V8, same one found in the Raptor, then it would have a chance

    • @Stuka87
      @Stuka87 10 лет назад +8

      The EcoBoost F150 out towed the Silverado with the 6.2L on the Ike Gauntlet though. Mostly because of the transmission programming, and the fact that the EcoBoost doesn't lose much power at altitude, and it makes peak torque for nearly the whole RPM range. So the Denali may pull ahead in a 0-60, but I think it will be very close.
      As for those power seats in the Denali/Escalade, I guarantee you the manual seats are faster to flip forward. SUre it took him a few moments the first time. But once you know, its one level and a pull and its done. The electric seats are annoyingly slow.

    • @LeshVarg
      @LeshVarg 10 лет назад +1

      Yea. The Ecoboost got better over the years. idk, I like v8 more and i like the v8 purr sound on the Silverado more. Plus I wasn't sure on the Silverado ike Gauntlet video if the gears shifted properly. If you run it on manual, then it would be ok. The auto has it's quirks.
      The power seats when it was first introduced in the Escalade and Denali in 2007, they were really slow. A few minor adjustment will make it faster and convenient.
      BTW, by next year there might be a 8 speed transmission offered on the new Escalade.

    • @bmwmsport11
      @bmwmsport11 10 лет назад +6

      Maybe ford will upgrade the turbos and tune the ecoboost for more power. I mean if people complain enough i think ford's gonna do something. They upped the power from the 6.7 powerstroke the second year it came out, so it could happen.
      Also power seats just add more potential for issues in the long run. motor dies and the seat won't fold anymore. atleast with a manual latch it may be cheaper and easier to replace.

    I think the Expedition looks SO much better than the new Chevy Tahoe & Suburban/GMC Yukon & Yukon XL/Cadillac Escalade. The GM SUV's are very ugly and boxy in my opinion. Although the Expedition isn't a complete redesign, I still prefer it over the GM SUV's. Yes, there are some fine lines between what GM has to offer and what Ford has to offer (interior and exterior wise) but since I own a '99 Ford Explorer and a '96 Ford F-150, they've been in my family for some time.
    PS,
    I also have an '03 GMC Yukon XL but its not functioning and hasn't been for a while. There's another reason why I prefer Ford over and GM vehicle.
    Don't mean to offend anyone, just my opinion and what I'd prefer over the rivalry of GM and Ford.

    Personally, I really wish that ALL of the American manufacturers still made a smaller version of this. Like the full-sized Ford Bronco and the full-sized Chevy Blazer. And while I am wishing, I wish that the dimensions were the same as those older vehicles. I just watched a Mr. Truck video on this same automobile and one of the engineers, when asked if you this automobile was available with rims that were smaller than 22 inches, replied something like " well, um, no. That was a decision that was made by marketing." So, in other words, another example of form over function. You mentioned that this comes in two different lengths, but you never said which length this particular model was...

    • @poundinthastreets
      @poundinthastreets 9 лет назад +1

      It definitely can come with smaller wheels. They offer 20s and even 18s on the lower trim lines. Sounds to me like Mr. Truck just got a hold of an idiot.... Also, why have a Bronco? That's where the Explorer comes in. I understand they aren't exactly the same, but it just wouldn't make any sense in the big picture to produce two vehicles that are so much alike. That being said, I do miss the old "OJ-mobiles"... You could do things with them that you just can't with these explorers.....

    • @lkcampbell9795
      @lkcampbell9795 9 лет назад +1

      poundinthastreets You wrote: "That being said, I do miss the old "OJ-mobiles"... You could do things with them that you just can't with these explorers....."
      That is partially my point. And, in my opinion, The older full-sized Blazers and Broncos are better looking automobiles. I don't need anything with three rows of seats. And I don't need a full-sized pickup truck that is eighty inches wide. The super-sizing of everything is just getting more and more stupid every year. I was getting the oil changed in my pickup truck the other day. And while they were doing that, I was walking around and looking at the new models on the lot. On one side, there was a Jeep Grand Cherokee with rims that were twenty inches or more, and directly across from it was a RAM 3500 pickup truck. The truck had seventeen inch rims on it. This trend is just (in my opinion) ridiculous. If people want to put twenty-five inch rims on whatever they want them on, that's fine with me. But at least give me the option to NOT have them. That's all I'm saying.

      Imma got it right. I'm talking the likes of Goldmine Hill as the worst case scenario and then, only very occasionally.
      I think the twin turbo on a smaller V6 motor is way better tan any V8 option.... more power, quicker, less weight, better fuel economy... it works for me. Having had a turbo car, I LOVE them.
      Biggest problem for me, is that I am all torso and an Expedition with a sunroof, just doesn't work. My head hits the sunroof surround. I would have to get a sunroofless XLT and load it up with extras, to get anywhere close to what I'd really like.

    2015 Ford that has a flat load floor, so the stuff doesn't fall out when I open the back. 2015 Suburban has a slightly sloping load floor so they can have power folding seats, but I can see stuff rolling out when I open the back. What I really want is an SUV that's made to carry my kids, not my bosses. I want easy to care for/replace seats, rubber floors (especially in the cargo area) and less electrical crap to break in ten years.

      Ford thinks 6 cylinders are better. The Hemi can get 23 possible 25 mpg on the highway. And that is putting the accelerator to the floor. They say this Expedition makes 365 horse power but when you get there, 8000 rpms. Chances are the vehicle will never reach that even with towing a large load. The V8 needs to come back. Ford made a good V8. Not as good as Dodge. Dodge has more pep and better fuel economy.

    I had heard that they haven't done a complete redesign because of the motors. Apparently they have tons of the motors that use in the expedition and were using in the F-150. Ford really needs to update the design. It's essentially the same as it has been for years. They just smooth out the sheet metal in different ways for every model year update. The belt line is too low, the front of the vehicle sits higher than the back,... just to name a few. It needs a lot more than a Titanium name, bigger wheels, and a new front grill.

    • @Fordguy1997
      @Fordguy1997 10 лет назад

      Actually, as of now, I was wrong. I'll admit it. Those updated power ratings that I gave are for the refreshed Lincoln Navigator only. Before the refreshed Expedition was released, everybody assumed Ford would carry over the more powerful Ecoboost from the new Navigator and put it in the Expedition as well, but I guess they didn't do that. Instead, it has the same power and torque as the outgoing F-150, except it reaches peak torque at a lower rpm.
      So, recap:
      2015 Expedition: 365 hp/420 lb. ft.
      2015 Navigator: 380 hp/460 lb. ft.

      this platform is based on the F150 so the frontend would be a little on the light side so the weight of the Powerstroke would be too heavy however, International did have a V6 twin turbo Diesel, VT276 or PowerMaxx5, based off of the 6.0 Powerstroke (nicknamed the "mini-Stroke") it had 200hp and 440lb/t. With some tuning to add a little more horsepower, this platform (or something similar considering this has been discontinued) would be perfect for the Expedition

      bonchristian20001 Or how about the 3.2L powerstroke that's used in the Transit. 185 hp and 350 tq at 1500 rpm. Wait.... on second thought never mind, cuz then it would be a slug... just look how slow the Ram 1500 is with the Ecodiesel.... but it gets great gas mileage!!!!!!!!! (sarcastically speaking)
      This vehicle is not a Ford Excursion, it's a people hauler with the capability of a half ton truck. People aren't gonna be towing 30 foot trailers or 16000 lbs worth of crap with an Expedition. The 3.5L ecoboost has PLENTY of horsepower and low end torque for this vehicle. The 3.5 has enough grunt to whip my 5900 lb F-150 4x4 around like a rag doll and it's bone stock. 0-60 in six seconds and some change?
      If anything, why not the 5.0 V8 as a base engine or at least a second option?

  • @MadOgre
    @MadOgre 10 лет назад +22

    My wife has an Expedition. Large and Comfortable, but a gas sucking monster. We're 3/4 of the way through a round the country journey... Currently in New York...
    BTW - Any State that puts Tolls on an Interstate - You freaking SUCK and I hate you. The Expedition for it's size and weight, cruises well enough. But for a 5.7 Liter V-8, the power and fuel economy disappointing. We should have got her a Yukon XL or Suburban instead. It tows well due to it's gearing, but you can really drop into single digit MPG's... and those Digits are on the small side.
    Of Dodge should make such a vehicle as this based on the Ram 1500 - which I'd buy in a heartbeat.
    The new Expedition seems to be just a refresh of the old Expedition. It's not "New" enough. And Ford's Interiors are way behind Chevy's. I'd pass on the new 2015 Expedition.

    Why don't Americans have diesels in these huge SUV's

    • @jorgeu111
      @jorgeu111 10 лет назад

      like $10K price difference. one of reasons: EPA requires some expensive emission control stuff

    • @newwavetheo
      @newwavetheo 10 лет назад +8

      Another reason is that, Americans have a bad perception of Diesels in general, and you can largely thank General Motors for that influence. It also doesn't help that we have lots of people here doing "coal rolling", a practice that involves installing smoke stacks onto a heavy-duty Diesel pickup truck / SUV. The Diesel engine ends up burning more fuel, and then produces thick and heavy black smog smoke, ruining the environment in the process.

    • @jeepluv76
      @jeepluv76 10 лет назад +2

      Theodore Thorpe I completely agree I would just add another reason Americans don't have diesels is largely because of our government. Our government is highly reliant on big oil industries and if Americans such as myself were given a wider range of diesels to choose from, the oil industry would lose out because of the overall benefits diesel provides. Such as fuel efficiency and the ability to run the vehicles on alternatives and we all know Corporate America won't stand for that.

    • @newwavetheo
      @newwavetheo 10 лет назад

      ***** I also completely agree with everything you said about the oil industry. For one thing, I'm really starting to think that the EPA, NHTSA and FMVSS / CMVSS are a cover-up for that (and other things too), to make Americans believe that our vehicles are "safe" and "efficient". It also doesn't help that Americans really don't have lots of vehicles to choose from to start with. No French cars are sold here at all anymore (Peugeot left in the early 90s, Renault left in the late 80s and Citroen in 1974). The "Big Three" (Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler) largely dominate the pick-up truck market (About 90% of all trucks sold here - estimate). Only 2 imported trucks are sold here, and even then, they all are built here because of the outrageous 25% Percent Chicken Tax. Not that is a bad thing. We do need the jobs.
      If you compare a U.S specification of a car to a Euro spec one, the fuel economy numbers are lower on the U.S one, sometimes by as much as double, even after the conversion from Km/l, L/100Km or U.K. MPG to U.S. MPG.
