I love that Ben and Callum are properly communicating with each other, talking about their day, talking about Phil and not hiding anything from each other. Also I love that Callum gets Ben's attention and is making sure bens looking at him before talking. I love them both so much, just seeing them tonight as really made my night. I am dreading the episode for tomorrow because I hate seeing them fight
I 100% agree with you! Couldn't have put it better myself! When i was watching this scene and the other one I was literally freaking out but at the back of my mind I felt a kinda sad and dread because i knew that tomorrow they would be having an argument. But they will make up so it's better having angst and a makeup then not seeing them on our screens
Phil: *defends Ben from Danny's awful comments* Me: Yes Phil!! Phil: *drags Ben back into another dodgy job despite knowing about his upcoming op* Me: No Phil...
It's pretty much a mirror of Ben and Phil's relationship too, isn't it? Phil makes Ben feel like shit, then gives him a crumb of kindness to suck him back in!
Can Phil leave Ben out of his shady dealings? Jeez When will Ben stop craving and needing his dad’s approval for once? He needs to come to the realization and focus on him and Callum, before he loses him for good this time around.
@@johnDoe-uw2zs Phil is a piece of work. Him standing up for Ben is awesome to see. I just wish that Ben could let go and just focus on the one good thing in his life, Callum. Seriously, I may not have seen this for long, but it hurts me seeing Ben doing some dodgy stuff and now that Callum is an officer, it's only a matter of time before Callum gets caught in the middle. *sigh* These two are so good for each other and it's frustrating seeing Ben doing the dodgy stuff!
Guardmuscian2013 I hate to say it. I wish they could both move away from that area altogether. I feel that Phil wants Ben to take over the business. Which in hindsight, I think Ben wants it for the sake of getting his fathers approval.
I'm glad Phil stood up for his son, Ben against that threatening thug. Phil does love his son but he just has a hard time showing it. It was refreshing to see, Phil, Callum and Ben smiling and looking forward to future possibilities. Please writers, be kinder to them. The public demands it. Happiness is not an impossibility. During this dreadful Covid 19 pandemic, give us something to cheer about and smile.Let love win. Ballum has bloody well earned it.
Hey Ben! I’m Chinese, so you know there’s a Chinese slang that’s perfectly describes your behavior right now called: 好了伤疤忘了疼 Translation: once on shore, one prays no more Meaning: you never learned your lesson!! After all you and callum have just been through, you can’t stay happy with him for a second before going back to the trouble land again!! I know it feels good trusting by your father, knowing that you are still worthy and you want his approval to be proud of you!! I get it, but again, the same time you are not thinking about callum again!!! Why can’t you just put callum first for once?? You know he’s officially a cop now, right? Getting into another job with phil, put risks of Callum’s job and reputation, and god, callum has just started on it, ben didn’t think about what that would do to callum at all!!! Come on! Ben! You can’t realize that you have to put callum first every time he’s in trouble or getting kidnapped or being in danger in your mess, it’s then you finally realize what you put him through and try to be there for him because then you’re scared of losing him again!! If Ben keeps this pattern, he and callum won’t last long, it just won’t!! Light or dark? They just won’t survive at the same time! You just can’t be both ways, you have to choose!! Otherwise daytime and nighttime would exist on the same hemisphere of the earth at the same time aren’t it? The fact is they are not!! So Ben, be more thoughtful of callum for once!
*SMH and facepalm at Ben & Phil* Ben, NOOOOOOO!! What the heck is he doing? I feel like he's telling Callum that his dad isn't saying much to him, when Ben is really reluctant to tell Callum that he sucked himself into another shady deal with his dad. :(:(
So Phil decides to stick up for Ben, but I suspect his is more trying to compensate for his own feelings about Ben. Just my gut hope I am wrong but still hate Phil. Ben was trying so hard to got legit and Phil is dragging him right back in. This will only be bad for Ballum on so any levels. Ben is pulled in cause he is so starved for his Dad's unconditional love and acceptance. Of course Ben will get into a "job" just to attempt to prove himself to his Dad. The screen time with Ballum is again great in the way it is written, directed, and acted. You note that Callum always makes sure Ben can see his lips before he speaks. This is shown visually and expressed audibly in the clear words we hear. The disappointment both guys feel about how Phil treats Ben is so easy to see and feel. Just hope Ben does not screw up and drive Callum away whilst trying to get Phil's approval.
I know I'll be in the minority but I believe Phil does love Ben and now is the time to step up and show how much. Ben has the chance to be happy with the man he loves. Phil can help by letting him go instead of pulling him back into the "family business " That's Phil's life. It doesn't have to be Bens.
I think so too, Phil loves Ben(in his own way). But I also think he has very conflicting feelings about who Ben is. He had this image of who his son should be and he accepted nothing less. Although, over the years he has shown growth. That's one small step for man, one giant leap for...Phil.
Nah, I see that. I do think some part of Phil does love his son, albeit in a kinda screwed up, conditional way. Otherwise he wouldn't have defended him against Danny. But he definitely needs to do what's right by Ben and let him live a crime-free life with his boyfriend.
I agree, but in my opinion he should love him *more* . And accept Ben for who he is. He also needs to show it. Phil has never been a good dad and he still isn't. He always wants Ben to be someone else, someone better, and expects more from him. Ben isn't exactly what Phil wants as a son for him and he will never accept it. Its so heartbreaking for Ben I feel so bad for him.
@@JessieArt He does love him but it's not unconditional and it should be. I want him to tell Ben that he loves him for who he is and not for who he thinks he should be. I know you have been watching alot longer than I have. What are the chances of that happening?
@@theresabruebaker1030 I think the chances of phil saying that are low. Phil literally gets annoyed when Ben can't understand what he's saying which is not right because it's not Ben's fault he's deaf. I can't think of a time where Phil has ever really opened up to anyone like that. But I definitely agree with you for sure. I would love phil to change and be a better dad. Yeah it is late but it's better late then never. And yes i agree. His love is conditional, and its wrong.
So you are telling me, he disappears for a few weeks then comes back and all of a sudden he is having this operation, just like that! I thought they wanted this to be realistic. With waiting lists he would have been waiting wayyyy longer than that. And needed test, I know not all of that will have been onscreen but it’s just odd.
The writers don’t seem to understand all we need is domestic scenes like this. Sometimes angst can be tasty, but repetitive ‘we’ve already been here and done this’ angst? It just gets boring!
So being gay and def is a weakness wow. these men do not belong in the 21 century, honestly I pity people who are so narrow minded. I so wish Ben would stop looking at himself thru Phil's eyes and see himself the way Callum and Lexi see him.
I think Phil got over Ben's sexuality already; however, the deafness is a major issue and liability in his perspective of how he sees it as a weakness. Which I personally don't believe it is.
@@Kirichu25 I don't think so, he has accepted that Ben is gay however seeing Ben being romantic or intimate with a man makes him very uncomfortable and I don't believe it's because of the act but the gender. It's also very hypocritical of him to detest "weakness" considering Phil is an alcoholic.
Zero hesitation from Ben when Phil asked if he’d help with the job. When faced with a choice of making lexi, Callum or Phil happy it will always be Phil.
Because all he wants is his dad to love him. If it were as simple as a straight choice between Phil and Callum/Lexi, he'd choose them. Just like he ultimately proved he'd choose Callum by putting a gun to Phil's head. But thats not what this is. Life is rarely that black and white.
