totally agree w/ the OP. when i lookup covers for this, there's always some type of extra-ciricular activity going on. this drummer apparently understands that mel gaynor already wrote the part perfect. great cover, very enjoyable to watch..
Massimo Campoli: what a great point of view. I play piano and guitar occasionally, not professional, have a quite good ear, but this is a totally new perspective to me. Thank you for this comment (and for the video of course, great).
@@max21ization I'm using your drum track to re-create the entire song in FL Studio, but I couldn't find one good enough . . . until now - Thank you Massimo!
Everytime this song comes on the radio or in the supermarket for the past 30 years I have said to myself damn that is some great drumming - IMO it absolutely is what makes the song great!
Whoaaaa... I'm sure this would get the Mel Gaynor stamp of approval. This was *_AWESOME._* I always loved the drumming on this song. Classic 80's anthem by Keith Forsey and Simple Minds. This song has been featured in countless events of my life, both in the distant past and present. Here's to it (and *_ALL_* their other great tunes) being a part of future one's too. Top cover here, my friend. Nod in your direction. *_SIMPLE MINDS RULE..._*
You sir are a drumming GOD!!!!! I wish that I was half the drummer you are. Simple minds should hire you for your next tour. You need to send me your autograph, so I can remember you when you are famous.
In the late 80's I had the extended version of this song and when I played it in my room it looked like the drummer was in the same room, so powerful, raw, natural, like this one. Love it. Thanks for sharing
You absolutely nail ever aspect of this. The right feel and all the important fills. While this song's hook is very catchy, I've always been convinced it was Mel's monster groove that took it over the top and made it an all-time 80's great.
So pleased by all the comments here. The drum parts on this track are so underrated and I agree they're what makes the song so memorable. I've been playing this track for over 20 years, and embarrassingly I've noticed that my practiced flik flak open hi hats that build up to the laa, la la la laa's need work! Excellent work, sir :)
For non drummers to notice & appreciate the drumming in a song it has to be unique and add something to the song. This would be one of those songs! Nice work.
Hey thank you that’s a really nice thing to say. All I try to do is bring a little bit of your style and personality to a song wether it be recorded or live but it’s the song to me that’s always most important 👍
Fantastic; love this song. When I was a kid, I thought playing the drums was the easiest thing until I saw a real drummer playing and my jaw hit the floor! Ha! Ha!
Absolutely fantastic and, to my understanding, 100% faithful to the original. No room for nonsensical fills. Brilliant job. A real gem and an inspiration for every drummer worth his/her salt. Bravo!
you know, this is perfect. it sounds confident and so professional, excellent playing. i'm not a drummer, i used to play bass a long time ago, but i can feel the solid touch here, it must be a pleasure for someone to have you as the other part of the rhythm section.
This is one of the reasons I love videos like this: I thought there was way more drum fills in this song, especially after the breakdown... nope. I just heard them in my head, apparently!
yes! "don’t you" is the very first song i play while learning the drums, thanks a lot for your very descriptive video! the basic rhythms and fills come across very well. so... let’s get it on! ;) best wishes!
Yes yes yes !!! ... That's the way you have to cover a classic, with no BS, just like the original notes. Thank you bro ! You just bring joy to my ears ! 😃
Love it! And you even nailed my favorite bit at 3:46 till 3:49. I am not a drummer (play guitar), but this song is one of my favorite drum performances and very well covered by u.
I agree... almost 44 now... is it still an option to take lessons? Not fit at the moment and have Bechterew. But i love music and like to express it myself... the best remedie and medicine know to mankind. Don't you forget about me... in reply that is 😉
I like how his drumming is clean. No add on fills. Just like he’s recording for the album.
Banksy ha thanks that’s exactly how I approached it😃
Massimo Campoli 👍🏼 right on brother.
This comment 1000000%. Spot on drumming!!
It's called staying in the pocket 😂
totally agree w/ the OP. when i lookup covers for this, there's always some type of extra-ciricular activity going on. this drummer apparently understands that mel gaynor already wrote the part perfect. great cover, very enjoyable to watch..
I liked the way the camera vibrates when you hit the bass drum
I was going to say the same thing!
+1 😀
I love his facial expressions! That's what you call having fun!
Yes sir I always do thanks😀
I love watching drumming videos and this was one of the best I’ve ever watched! That guy freaking nailed it! Sounded perfect!!
Nice job. I always felt the drums never got enough credit in this song.
Thanks
Mel Gaynors feel is what makes this tune if you ask me😁
Massimo Campoli: what a great point of view. I play piano and guitar occasionally, not professional, have a quite good ear, but this is a totally new perspective to me. Thank you for this comment (and for the video of course, great).
What?! It’s the drums that are the stand out in this song!
Drummers rarely do.
Totally agree
Rose's are red
Violets are blue
I came just for 3:42
Awesome!
Haha awesome thank you 😃
Yesssssssssssss!! Love it!
@@max21ization man I do wish at that 3:42 mark you would have done a bunch of Carter Beauford type ride/high hat interplay. Nice play through though
And 3:42 was quite well addressed. LOL
Lol 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
Just brilliant - it's always inspiring to see someone doing something this well and making it look easy.
I keep coming back to this drum cover. My favorite. Dude has nice energy and mad skills. ❤❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘
Good looking bloke as well..
Top drummer this guy could walk into any band .👍
Its a 10 from me on the drumming sir!
Thank you very much😄
@@max21ization brilliant!
You should take over from Mel Gaynor!👌👍
Best cover of this PERIOD. Exactly as the original, or as near as damn it. AWESOME!
Thanks Stuart😃

Love that passion in this man with his drums
Everytime this song comes on the radio or in the supermarket for the past 30 years I have said to myself damn that is some great drumming - IMO it absolutely is what makes the song great!
Yup, great song, but without the drums it would be, Meh
Bueno, very well played. 3:45 is one of the greatest drum fills in music - simplicity is perfection.
It sure is thanks man

I dont know how anyone could give this a thumbs down. It was spot on studio take quality.

Well executed. Mr. Mel George Gaynor would be proud.

This is so theraputic that I watched it twice in succession.
😄
Nice strong groove... beautiful!
Just trying to figure out why this video has dislikes?? Those haters need to accept the fact that this is some of the best drumming out there!!!!
Rudy Salazar YAAAASSSSS!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Drums are the star of this song and the break at the end of the bridge reminds everyone of this.
I have never seen a cleaner drum cover of this song ever. Well done. Well well done
If I was the drummer, I would have let out a huge YEAH after nailing the drum break at 3.46. Good job Sir. 👍👌👊
😆 thanks
