@0:56 Makes a solid case for why every feature film / tv series should have a minimum of four people! (astonished though you got to have a sound department of 16 people on Cats, shows just what a challenge that was for sound)
Fascinating and inspirational reading this. I wondered why they used a roof kind of boom on top of the boom mike instead of a Rainman/Kelly solution. But I guess this was beneficial for avoiding raindrops on the lavalier as well. I guess the "roof" was covered with hogs hair or something similar to avoid noise from the rain hitting it..?
I am VERY interested to hear more about booming the makeshift roof during the rainy scene! Student filmmaker producing a short film set in a very wet dystopian setting.
Imagine being the sound team working on a Simon Hayes interview
They better use some carpet to get that extra 10%
Awesome, simply awesome piece of work by Simon and his sound team.
Oh! Shocking video. I loved hearing "secrets" about how the voices of "The Miresables" was recorded in such excellent way.
Thank you very much.

BBJ black belt and instructor
@@dgibbrd love to hear that
@@dgibbrd I've always been concerned about damaging my ears from BJJ, but always wanted to start. However, if Simon does it, it must surely be fine.
