    Izzy!!!! I just found this. Beautiful and fascinating. I was a little alarmed at seeing you do this all from the side!!!! This is a beautiful video. If I wasn't so busy transferring all my work to online stuff, it would a GREAT time to perfect my calligraphy...during this "sheltering in place" stuff. Blessings to you!

    Hi Izzy, I'm a big fan of your work, i bought your book, your Sta"m alphabet is incredibly nice and sharp, would you be able to upload a demonstration?
    Thx

      Thanks for your kind words. i tried once to video it, but because of the much smaller writing my head gets in the way of the camera and all you see is my head! As of now I don't have the equipment to record it properly, but if i do will be happy to video it

      I have done demos for what i consider the hardest letters - the aleph, shin and tsadi. I will post links here. I have given instructions for the whole aleph-bet , in many styles (plus a whole lot more) in my book, Mastering Hebrew Calligraphy.

    What kind of "pen" do you use to make these? Also, what is your ink of choice?

    • @impwriter
      @impwriter  6 лет назад +2

      These were made with a large ( approximately 3.7 cm) Coit pen. The ink used for the demonstration is walnut ink but in regular work it all depends on what the piece requires.

    Why do you write from thw side, and work from the left side of the letter (Hebrew is written right to left)

    • @impwriter
      @impwriter  5 лет назад

      I write from the side because i am left-handed. This allows a left hander to keep a natural hand-position while still maintaining the correct pen angle. There are two other methods for left handers that i demonstrate in my book, Mastering Hebrew Calligraphy.
      As to starting from the left, yes, although Hebrew reads from right to left, each individual stroke within the letter is written from left to right as strokes are (almost) always pulled and not pushed.

      @@impwriter thats very interesting, im so used to writing hebrew in a normal handwriting "cursive" script.

    The best letter I like in hebrew is ש

    • @impwriter

      There are many who would agree with you! It is one of the more difficult letters to get right, though

    hebrew letters feel heavy and thick for the pen size

    • @impwriter
      @impwriter  3 года назад

      Yes, they are usually heavier than typical Latin letters, though in modern typefaces this is often "corrected"
