  • Tracy Letts' The Minutes returns to Broadway beginning April 2 at Studio 54.
"I would describe The Minutes as a 90-minute comedy. One act. One Scene. Eleven characters on stage," playwright Letts says of his play, and audiences know they will be in for a wild ride. This is, after all, penned by the author of the Tony-winning August: Osage County. Watch the video above to find out what to expect.
The Minutes began previews in February 2020, but never officially opened due to the Broadway shutdown caused by the pandemic. The majority of the Broadway cast will return, including Tony-winning playwright and actor Letts, Tony winners Blair Brown and Jessie Mueller, Tony nominees Ian Barford, K. Todd Freeman, and Austin Pendleton, plus Cliff Chamberlain, Danny McCarthy, Sally Murphy, and Jeff Still. Schitt’s Creek star Noah Reid joins them in his Broadway debut.
Anna D. Shapiro directs the work, which premiered at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2017 under her helm. The play takes a look at the inner workings of a city council meeting and the hypocrisy, greed, and ambition that bubble to the surface when a newcomer to the small town of Big Cherry starts to ask the wrong questions.
The production features scenic design by David Zinn, costume design by Ana Kuzmanic, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt, sound design and original music by André Pluess, hair and wig design by Tom Watson, dramaturgy by Edward Sobel, and casting by Caparelliotis Casting.
Though it is being performed at the Roundabout-operated Studio 54, The Minutes is not a Roundabout Theatre Company production.

He's wonderful, the heartbeat and soul of the play and production. His fine, nuanced work here in the de facto leading role -- the interloper into a very insular town council -- is award worthy.

Wowza! Out of the matinee: moved, shaken, haunted, parsing turns in the suspense-fueled storytelling and its thematic takeaways. Letts has crafted a subversive fable that offers sneaky homage to Shirley Jackson; like that other master, Letts trusts both his tale and his audience. The company is superb, led by a funny, heartbreaking Noah Reid.
