  • In this video, reacting to reactors reacting takes a look at Patti Austin and James Ingram's 1983 #1 hit, Baby, Come to Me.
"Baby, Come to Me", a love ballad from Patti Austin's 1981 album Every Home Should Have One, was her duet with James Ingram. It was written by Rod Temperton (formerly of Heatwave). The song was released as a single in April 1982, peaking at No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100. Several months later, American soap opera General Hospital began to feature the song heavily as the love theme for character Luke Spencer. It was re-released in October and reached No. 1 on the chart in February 1983.

Just perfection. Bringing McDonald in for the backing vocals takes the chorus to another level. That entire team on these Quincy-produced tracks in the late '70s/early '80s was amazing - from the musicians (John Robinson, Steve Lukather, Greg Phillinganes etc) to the recording engineer (Bruce Swedien) and of course Rod Temperton who seemed unable to not write a hit during this time.

I LOVED Rod during his Heatwave days. You're right, almost everything he touched turned to gold.

Awesome reaction. VERY entertaining .This is also one of my favorite songs. It literally takes you to a different space and time and the vocals are like nothing else out there.

I never really paid attention to this song before, but listening to Patti Austin's voice at this moment, it's so soothing and beautiful.

10/10/10. I love this channel and go to it when I want an authentic reaction to songs I care about. James Ingram has so many good early 80s offerings, as well as some stuff later with Linda Ronstadt. Anyway, to most reactors he has become the guy in the We Are the World video who no one recognizes. Oh, him and Al Jarreau :)

James Ingram had one of the most unique, smoothest voices of that era, for sure.

Asia here, she can sing. She’s done it in other videos. As much as I hate the long into and always skip it, I think that might be her singing it.
