All time greatest birder quote: "See that green tree?"
"Technically we're not supposed to be here..."
Yeah but... we’re Citizen Scientists so it’s alright.
You gotta be a birder to relate to this. It's exactly what we bird brains do and say to the T!
The Language of the Tribe
1:15 I credit watching this video so many times with why I recognized the Kirtland's I heard singing in the woods this spring.
How about, "Where is the bird?" "It's right there?" 'Where?" "See where I am looking?" "Where are you looking?" "Right where the bird just flew from" "So, where did it fly to?" "Right there"....
Only a birder can understand....
not in the video, but this was from a day in the field a while back..... "over by the tree, behind the cow, not the first cow, the second cow, and not the green tree the deciduous branched out tree, with the broken limb, to the right of that and on the clump of dirt by the rocky out cropping" ..... good times
West County Hawkwatch
West Coast Hawkwatch
As a birder I was sceptical when I saw the title but you really nailed it. Excellent work!
„fairly extinct“ lmaooo
I can't believe this hasn't got more views! Brilliant, accurate and damned funny, Thanks.
My wife and I have birded a dumpster behind a Burger King on Stock Island for a lesser blackback gull. Haha
Spot on, Jason. I love this! I'm also worried that I identify with so much of it.
"fairly extinct" haha
Instant classic. Thank you!
This had me belly laughing, thanks for that-- A quick observation of another birding dilemma at .31 seconds - the left objective lens cap on your binoculars is flipped up, blocking the lens while you're looking to the left of the second hill. Classic.
This is classic humor only birders will understand
"You brought a Crossley's?!"
Very funny. Only a birder would get it.
All I can say is: "WOW". Thanks Jason, this is a very funny video. I will recommend this to most birders I know. I think it is pivotal that the title uses an asterisk as it helps provide laughs to birders from different backgrounds and ages. "WOW!!"
+Aviary Paragraph Thanks!
This person nailed it. It is so hilarious because these are conversations I have had with fellow birders. I do worry that I know of which he speaks!!!!!
I can see the wings moving...watching a plane.
This is a scream. My wife is already using this to mock me, and SHE's a birder also!
First video I’ve seen of yours but I've got tears of laughter rolling down my face. Brilliant video, absolutely brilliant!
just sharing this today with some Aussie Birder friends... it is so spot-on!!
R. Bruce I'd be interested to know how it plays on the other side of the planet! Congrats on the new adventure, amigo. Yer living the dream; I.e., getting the hell out!
This is hilarious!! The shot in the parking lot next to the trash at 1:41 is beautiful...
Reminds one time my dad stopped in a parking lot to pick up something from McDonald's, I just sticked my head out the car and watched some alpine swift, while thinking how awkward I look to all the people passing by, but then the swifts got closer to me so I didn't care about anything else...
Pretty amazing. 10,000 views. How far can this get? Can it reach a million? I think it can! Everybody share now! It is the perfect counterpoint to all the people who have seen The Big Year. It shows a very humane and innocent side to birdwatchers. There is an interview with Jason on Birdingblogs and a chance to wind his DVD opposable chums.
Calling out the "green tree" is because it is surrounded by leafless "snags". Any birder would understand this but yes, it does sound absurd.
This was great. Really tickled my funny alula.
Love this. Very clever!! I've shared it with many people, birders and non-birders alike. They all love it.
Nature Studio Thanks!
Thats too cute! Love the directionals! lolol
I have those lens cap binocs, lol. I finally cut them off because one kept flapping up, and I am sure it scared the birds also!
This is great, thnx for the laugh. Don't forget, "which way do you wanna go today?" "I dunno" "Me either, can;t make up my mind!"
Awesome!!!
What about...Oh just another LBJ, it's 2:00 in that tree at 40 percent near the area where the tree forks. Where are my bins? Ahhh..crap it flew... You see where the light is shining on that branch? Just 5 feet up from that and a little to the right. Is that a Snowy Owl or some styrofoam?
A great late night quote I have uttered several times to non-birders.... "Um, there are warblers going over."
PRICELESS!
Priceless. Makes me want to make my own video of strange terminology non-birders don't understand. Loved (and own) Opposable Chums by the way.
Hmmmm. Note one of the bino lenses has it's cover on when he's looking at something. :-)
So...I have shared this video (several times) on my own page and most recently the CT BIrding page. I have also shared it directly with some birders I have met since I watched it. I laugh just as much every time I watch it! :-) Ummmm....laughing means relating, right? :-)
+Jerilyn Duefrene Thanks, Jerilyn. In fact, the video was produced entirely within The Great State of Connecticut.
@@BoulderOakFilms That is so cool! I purchased the video of the World of Series from Cape May - Opposable Chums and I love it! I have told quite a few birders about it too!
superb!
Superb lyrebird?
I absolutely love this video!
My birding buddy and I now commonly use lines from your wonderful video. Can't wait for your encore (although I did see a 2nd one you did that was excellent, too). Thanks!!!
Laughing so hard. Excellent topic, and even more excellent performance and editing.
Love this - laughed out loud at the accuracy and I have said them all!
+Kindness It's the disease of The Tribe.
I love birds sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!
fantastic!!!
This made my day! :D
Just couldn't stop laughing! I've said all of those!
Nailed it
Brilliant. Absolutely accurate.
Bravo
Loved it, thanks for the bird themed giggles!
"Fairly extinct" "Yeah, there, on the green tree"...Usually, my conversations go like this (I'm too concentrated on the bird to explain others where it is): -where is it? +there, on the tree -which tree? +wait a moment... -right there? +yeah, there -are you listening to me? -what? xD SO FUNNY. Just birders can understand.
Ha-ha, that was good! 🤣
Just getting into birding and this was fun to watch.. "it only has one leg" made me lol.
and it makes me really want someone to do one for herpers too.
Whoa!
While seawatching ' it's above the wave'. 😂
“It’s above the waaaaaaave…NOW!”
@@BoulderOakFilms "It's going up, it's going down" 😂
@@joshmaccallum-stewart2474 "Ah, it's just a ba-...uh, never mind..."
hilarious!!!
I've said all those things! Thank you for the good laugh!
Just getting into birding, too, and I've already heard these words coming from my own lips, heehee!
I absolutely love this one! I have heard that laughing is a form of identifying - so be it! Over there, ya know - 2nd branch from the left near the dead tree....about half-way up!
+Jerilyn Duefrene Ya mean half-way down?
I think that I have said all these things......
Yep!
OMG! I laughed and laughed. Been there, etc.
Fantastic!!
I'm dyingggggggg this is so accurate
So true!
Let's see if we can pish it in.
Brilliant! My brother says this stuff ALL the time.
dipping = missing or failing to see a bird
Love it. Please make more.
Thanks so much. If you'll search, you'll find two more, each far less funny than the previous one.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Ok I dont' know diddly about birding really, at least not yet. I got interested though so I bought some Bushnell 7x26 Custom Elites, iBird Pro and Birdlog. Today I'll get a hardcopy, that's a book, regional field guide. I can totally see all this stuff transpiring and really enjoyed the humor in it. Nice vid.
Sh*t real birders say: "uhh, where is it?" "It's right in f*ckin front of you."
Best video I've seen in a long time - VERY funny!!
Have you got Collins? (Europe)
Guilty!
What fun!! Thank you!
brilliant!
I was with a group yesterday and I got the impression that they weren't seeing what they claimed to be seeing. After watching this I think I was correct. I'm going to stick with watching alone.
cool!
Very amusing but not as shitty as some if the things I say while birding!
Hey Jason we need an updated version 😅
Oh, man…
OK: what did I leave out of this one?
Loved this!
So glad!
AWESOME!!
Why, thanks!
oh, it's a ..leaf bird!
Karen Drozda Common around here...
Hilarious. I have gone to such great lengths to describe trees sometimes and had people still not get onto the bird. Maybe I should just say "green tree" next time!
this is funny.
Fairly extinct! You brought Crossley's?
Classic Jason! Hilarious.
me? Never. But I *have* called out a green tree.
Amen.
That was sweet! Thanks
Good stuff!
Nice!
That's so cool! I'm birder too :-)
very funny thanks for sharing
that sounds a bit like geologist, see that rock there, no that one, *throw rock in general direction* the brown one next to the other rock. *try and guide your brunton mirror reflection in area and fail spectacularly* *draw shoddy picture* give up, drink beer
This was awesome, lord knows I catch myself saying variations of all these. Throw in a couple of straight-faced lines about jizz and it'd be perfect!
Lol!!
If you don't understand birding lingo. Try the automatic speech recognition subtitle option (CC) and you get some additional laughs from the video. Then try to translate that to Spanish.. Hilarious...again!
pish AKA spit!
"It's a Stick Bird!"
This is awesome hahaha
Thank you.
Been talking like that for a long time now :)
