Great video! Having grown up in Ballina back in the 1980s, it brings back memories. The old highway certainly was a goat track. There were many accidents, including two horrific bus crashes in 1989, which probably were the impetus to get the road upgraded, which was sorely needed.
Memories , Sweet memories !!! Brought back memories of 2004 to 2017 when i used to live in Brisbane and used to travel to sydney if not every week but at least once every 2 weeks . Im back home now ( turkey ) since 2017 but the memories are still in my mind . Any way mate , thanks for the wonderful video . 🤔🤔🤔🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
Been waiting to see this. I made a series (many years ago) on by-passed "Old Pacs" and many of the ones you started on here are in my neck of the woods. Like you I have a history with it - like driving often along what's now Wooton Way on my way between Sydney and Elands nearly 40 years ago. I also met Adrian Nickelodeon (probably Australia's most famous Motovlogger) in the infamous tunnel near Berowra and rode the famous "Old Pac" with him and many others. The old sections make for great riding, now that the traffic has been removed :)
Oh god, the pronunciation of names in the Tweed area was getting to me lol, not sure where the second A you were throwing in Chinderah was coming from, and I won’t get started on Murwillimbah, many of us just call it Mur’bah
My partner, soon to be wife in about 3 weeks, grew up with summer holidays to Yamba. We both ride (you first got our bikes snapped on a youtube clip as you were riding out of St Albans many years ago while we were still snoozing in the cabin!) and we are keen to reverse engineer your non M1 trip up that way.. Furthest north we've been is Coffs Harbour and we ended up going back up Waterfall way to Armidale then down to Gloucester and over to our destination of Forster for the day. If there's a better route for that leg (and we will be taking note of everything else) then please let us know!
Hay, new to your channel cant wait for the next installment. Have travelled some of those roads heading back to lake Macquarie, wangi is where I grew up , we would do the annual migration back to Brisbane every year travelling mostly the inland way (new ingland hiway). But every so often mum would want to go the coast road much to to dads disapproval but mum one in the and , thanks for the video .
Loved the mispronouncing of the place names. Just did this trip myself in parts. Miss some of the vistas the old road gave you. All that eyewateringly expensive real estate, all that potential for the Obeids.
Certainly looking forward to the BMW this time around. However, I was surprised how I go used to the single thumper after a few days at highway speeds.
The problem trying to do this today is that many sections of the old Pacific Highway are disconnected from each other, esp. on the north Coast. This is compounded by the fact that each section has been renamed.
You’ve inspired me to check out the old road on my bike too. I lived on the pacific every night as a drug fucked Truckie at the turn of the century and because most of the new freeway was done in my absence I can’t recognise much. If you get me lost I’ll unsubscribe and take off the thumbs up.

Nice road to travel . I traveled that road many a time myself . Thanx for taking us along 👍
Happy to be able to share it 😀
Cool video mate. This would be an awesome trip. You bring back some memories especially with Mooball. Wow I haven't been there in about 35 years

Awesome, that was what I was hoping for. 😀
nice onboard footage, gotta love old pac !

The honey place is in urunga. But, that’s probably in the second video.
OMG. You know what these means?! I just looked it up, referenced my GPX file and checked the video footage, and I rode right passed it!!!
😂. I guess it won’t be in the second video then.
I also checked the footage, and I had the camera rolling 40 seconds prior and 1 minute after!! 🙄😜
Oh well, I must stop there next time I go past!
Vern, great informative and enjoyable video, thanks!
Thanks Lori, glad you enjoyed it!

Just put the final episode out now 😄

I gave up trying to get everything right 😜
The Ballina bypass didn't open in 2011, it opened in 2012!
The ferry was to south Ballina, not part of the old pacific hwy
Before the Wardell bridge was built, that was the Pacific Highway.
Awesome idea, i want to do the same idea of a trip myself. Can you link a detailed map route you took?
I will do a blog post on the website, because there are parts that are great, and parts you can most certainly skip!
Did you enjoy riding the tenere that far on the road, would've been more comfy on your f800gs
Certainly looking forward to the BMW this time around. However, I was surprised how I go used to the single thumper after a few days at highway speeds.
@@MotoRidesAustralia nice mate and when i finally get a bike id love to tag along.
In the olden days the Boyd bridge had the fruit fly inspection dudes on it.
Spotto? What you spotting?
Have you never played spot to??!!
spottofederation.org/rules
Yellow Cars?
Yep. Spotto for yellow cars, but then you can extend it to Snotto for green, Lotto for gold etc.
Nothing romantic about the old pacific hwy back then; frustrating, and at times terrifying, following caravans and semis up the buttingbar range.
Bad idea having your phone up there. Way too distracting for proper riding …
Who said I was doing "proper riding"? 😜😂

Its not Chin dara its Chin der a.
….and it’s not pronounced Hel e na. It’s Hel eena or St Helena 😁
And Mooball is actually pronounced Mow-ball.

Good stuff mate!! 😀
