this is so nostalgic, it's fucking gut wrenching. in the most beautifully melancholic way of course. i feel my stomach sinking while my heart illuminates warmth. hair stands up on my neck, throat swells and eyes start watering.... my dear friend who showed me stars of the lid for the first time passed away a few years back. it still feels as if he is still around sometimes: when i meet a person with a loving personality, and when i spend all day cooking a feast for friends, and when i visit the certain spots along the oregon coast we used to explore, and when i'm alone playing a nylon string guitar outside in the summer, feeling a gentle breeze in the early hours before sunrise, after a universally reconnecting, introspective, reawakening night in the forest with some really good acid. KJ, you always were a beautiful soul. i loved all those mind opening conversations we had. you were an inspiringly strong person. living life to it's fullest, doing what set your soul on fire, smashing any inhibitions. you lived like a blazing pheonix sky-rocketing straight into the sun. you are very much alive in the hearts and minds of everyone you touched. much love, buddy. it was a privelage meeting you
I can tell by your words that you speak nothing but the truth. Sometimes the stars that burn twice as bright, live half as long. I am sure that you expressing your memory of him in such a way is what he would want.
Wow. I just stumbled upon this song and this band for the first time tonight, and then I'm here. I'm tearing up just reading these words and seeing all the beautiful images you shared in my mind. Thank you, hope everything's well with you.
These guys seem to nail every track. Amazing what certain notes and sounds can do to a human. I feel nothing but love when I listen to them. Ambient geniuses!
Stars of the Lid - old souls that long ago learned to float out towards the edges of what is known...Slowly, they drift over us, calmly watching - wondering why only so few come out to join them.
@piper102206 From my own experiments, I would say that most of this is made with conventional string and wind instruments played through reverbs and resonators. What makes stars of the lid so organic is that they rarely use any artifacts that sound "synthetic" - i.e like an analog subtractive synthesizer
So this song managed to blow out my speakers TWICE. On two different sets of headphones. My Bose NC 700s and my Sony 3D audio ones. This cannot be a coincidence.
Does anybody else hear clipping or popping in their music or are my headphones fucked? It's specifically in this song during the crescendo around 1:50.

one of many of the gems of SOTL, this is one of my favourites but I have a lot of favourites...
this makes me cry
You can listen to their whole album on repeat and fall asleep and it's wonderful.
I often put this track on "repeat" and listen through my headphones until I fall asleep, with ear cramps, of course. This is an indispensible album.
stars of the lid is maybe my favorite band of all time
One of their best songs.
I've ALWAYS thought that.
It's like sitting at the bottom of the ocean observing the sealife float around you

If music alone ever had the potential to detach my mind from my body, then this is it.
Ive always felt this was most fitting for the d day after math scene of saving private ryan or the like. just after the violence, the calm.
amazing !!!

The video reminds me of a place, that the music takes me.

if i go to the center of the milky way i want this to be my soundtrack
sounds like peaceful underwater music
@oceaneyesable
apparently Oosterpark in Ridderkerk, the Netherlands
Nice atmosphere.
I need to land on the Moon to this song before I die.
saw these guys live, met brian, nice fucking guy and helpful too.
I like this much better than their earlier stuff. Ballasted Orchestra was good but this is far better.
I don't know... I think I love Ballasted Orchestra for the darkness of it. It's a very hazy record
im absolutely certain i have heard this song somewhere but i cant quite grasp from where and it's frustrating me
Lara Horhor how about i pet goat when the pyramids get destroyed? I had the same feeling.
Four years late, but very similar to "Variation 15" from the Dunkirk soundtrack, credited to Hans Zimmer, Benjamin Wallfisch and Sir Edward Elgar.
The tree at 5:05 is watching us.
@thedorkybastard20 perfect sense. :)
where was this filmed?

Is this in any movies? It's so familiar! Maybe a children's sports epic? Or something in space? I can't place it, but I know those horns
