      @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 i did a field of oats this year hopping to support our local bird population.. most likely i'll just cut it late and let nature take it place.. The oler guy that use to rent our feilds for his cows now has reach the age he can't do it any more. so i'm not sure what i going to do with the 35 acures at this point. maybe another farmer will take the fields and rent them. whom knows at this point.

    Another trick is seed companies saying they have a proprietary seed. One company that is owned by a habitat consultant has a type of corn that is higher in carbs,sugars and protein they tout as such. You can do a google search and find it is not proprietary.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  Год назад +1

      Hi Shawn! I like wheat...I like rye better tho for a few reasons. BUT, often folks can't find rye but they can find wheat...or the other way around. I like using 1 or the other tho...they are so close to each other. Rye is for poor soil poor oh...wheat needs good soil, decent pH. Kind of like a Norway spruce and white spruce comparison. White spruce grows in any soil, bad or good and in full shade. Norway needs full sun and better soil, better pH.
      Bottom line I like them both 😊

    We used your EZ no till strategy last season on a 1/2 acre plot with good results. This year we are going to try the Ultimate no till. Would you recommend trying to divide a small plot like that or should we just plant your green blend on the whole 1/2 acre and top dress with rye later? I know you usually do half brassica half green blend and rotate.
    Thanks in advance. We appreciate all of the information you share with everyone.

      @@timhatfield6367 the good thing is you can spray the en thing switch with Simazine. Only bad thing is that if switch is up...so are the weeds that Simazine would have killed if sprayed before they popped up. So a waste of money at that point...

    • @jeffpangborn4943
      @jeffpangborn4943 Год назад

      @Ben Borgschatz you can spray that mix on switchgrass seed...not the switchgrass once it's germinated. If you planted this year, you should be good to spray until mid May or so depending on where you are located. After that, mow if you have a weekly issue. If you still have a broadleaf weed problem, you can spay 2-4D late in the summer, once your switchgrass has at least four leaves.

    Any experience in wolf territory? Do you find they are less predictable? Mature big woods bucks in heavy wolf territory, maybe the hardest thing to get close to imo. Any changes to your food plotting strategy?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  Год назад +3

      Hi Keith! Larger plots and edges that aren't as thick (more of a filtered look) are critical. Bigger, less confining bedding areas and rarely any hinge cuts unless for screening access of a stand, as deer do not like to be near habitat they can't see into or thru. Absolutely zero gas machine access. Think BIG movement. Often morning bedding areas and stand locations are back on public land somewhere...
      The opposite of northern OH, and then a sliding scale of bigger and less confining...along with more food...the more remote and wilderness.
