Even Conrad contributed! When he talked as an 'advertiser' and said he prefers live action ads (news, sports, wrestling) because you can't DVR fast forward thru the ads.
Eric shut that shit down quickly, when he mentioned Brad Segel trying to double-dip the demo, his preteen and 18-40 groups didn't want to see any other programming in that age bracket from wrestling ads, the wrestling fans are FICKLE (/Bryan Danielson) and only want wrestling content not other similar-demo content. Hence why FOX didn't renew Smackdown despite having an average 3M per week rating-- it seems like wrestling is hard to program for before the collapse of the TV industry, and now in the age of Streaming TV (Netflix will probably find this same lesson out soon with RAW).
I think WWE and AEW need to get back on board with creating their own network. The WWE Network and an AEW Network where they just have their own brand and their own payment subscription tiers, for anybody that wants to watch wrestling 24/7. AEW would be able to FINALLY create a Ring of Honor TV show, and WWE can return to their original NXT greatness like back when the Black and Gold brand was an exclusive WWE Network show. IMHO.
I have to kind of trust Eric on this more than most. He’s worked as a TV producer and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has friends in the industry with some at WBD and he knows more than he can reveal.

Due to their falling ratings, massive overspending, and low attendance they've managed to make the chances of a renewal at all go down drastically.
Id say it would be one of the biggest achievements in wrestling history if they manage to NOT get a renewal the first time out because I think every wrestling company that's been on television has managed to get renewed at least once.

As an Australian; there is no Australia deal. They'd be lucky to get 10k to a show here. They have no presence. It'd be like the AFL fielding a game in Florida.
To be absolutely fair, I was at the New Japan PPV which had a full building at festival hall and at the NXT taping which was at Margaret Court Arena and sold out - both bigger crowds than I expected for what it was, even though NXT was hot at the time WWE overall wasn't. However running a stadium show with the current AEW product is absolute madness, they can't even lean on big ex WWE names other than Jericho. The WWE PPV back in 2018 had the Undertaker, Triple H, HBK, Ronda Rousey, John Cena, Roman Reigns, AJ Styles etc on the card.

Bear in mind Nitro and Thunder did tapings here in October of 2000 and they did big gates and the crowds were very loud. Not defending AEW at all but I think they'd do an ok crowd just not a stadium.
Edit : Although WWF hadn't done a show in 14 years at the time of the WCW tapings - so that probably helped

I don't know why people would want to get rid of Conrad. It's good to have someone challenging Eric a little, imo, even if it's just for the sake of promoting discussion. But to the point of the tv deal, I'm seeing reports of them getting 'double' what they had previously and that is FUCKING INSANE. 😂 If WBD, who is already losing money hand over fist, *doubles* their offer to a company that has *halved* their ratings from their peak, that's just pure insanity. There's no argument for it. None. AEW should be lucky to get 3/4 of their current deal. The idea of someone greatly valuing their catalog is hilarious as well. AEW has been gifted primo timeslots on a primo cable network with a primo lead in, and they have done nothing but decreased their viewership. Even their big London show, which is all their fans can talk about, is seeing a big drop in attendance from the first one. The demand is simply not there, and for Khan to say and have his surrogates say that things to the effect of 'they're holding out for a better deal' is laughable. Right now, WBD is their only deal, and it's probably only a consideration because they lost the NBA.
Yeah but it doesn't have to be Conrad who challenges Eric. It could be someone with some charisma, someone who Eric has chemistry with, even if it's sparky and confrontational at times. Conrad is just who we're stuck with. He's longwinded and endlessly takes the same positions, without fail. It's predictable and flat. He doesn't come across as a gadfly, he comes across as compromised, biased and disingenuous. It's wearying hearing his repeat interjections that always sound like they're meant to protect Conrad's own businesses and alliances and nothing else. Who wants to hear that? WB is content with running big bang theory, friends, young sheldon and the other shows on repeat on TBS, as far as TNT they are more than willing to air the sports packages they already have plus the procedural shows. AEW will have to sign a slave contract where they are putting out additional content with a small pay increase
Exactly! Nowadays, the owners of TNT & TBS are not concerned with having wrestling on their program schedules. The demand is not as strong nowadays. AEW is lucky to even be on TNT & TBS, to begin with. It's not the '90s anymore, as much as I miss the '90s.
I'm sure there's some sort of offer on the table. I'm considerably less sure that it's the sort of deal AEW wants or needs in order to grow.

Double is nowhere near what Tony was aiming for. He said he would 100% get a huge increase and that would make AEW profitable. Double is not enough, not even close.
Eventually one of two things will happen; Tony’s father will decide he’s tired of bankrolling AEW. Or WBD will conclude they can better fill the time slots. The ones to watch for are Jericho and Mercedes; when they conclude they’ve gotten all they’ll get and jump back to WWE, that’s when we’ll know the end is in sight.

In fact, CD sales almost eclipsed vinyl sales in 2023 for the first time in over a decade due to its low cost and inventory versus the collector nature of the other one. There is no renewal deal with Warner Bros Discovery like Tony Khan says there is. If there really was a deal, it would have already happened and an announcement would have been made in the stock markets and there hasn't been. The fall television seasons have already started for most part. 90% of your television show deals and contracts for broadcast rights occur in the summer in between seasons and/or during the off season if it's a traditional sport with the exception to racing based sports. Starting tomorrow, WWE's programming basically tripled their income across the board in terms of broadcast rights fees.
If AEW gets another deal from WBD, it should be for less money than what they’re getting now. Ratings have done nothing but go down since the shows have debuted on TBS/TNT. No network executive is going to give them more money.
AEW will take whatever offer they are given because they have no bargaining power in these TV deal negotiations.

As a die hard college football fan (Go Sun Devils), I am having flashbacks to the PAC-12’s negotiations for media deal. For those who do not know they were saying the same things as Tony and now the prestigious conference, with over 100 years of history, has collapsed and is no more. Hopefully it works out better for AEW
The Pac 12 schools didn't want TV networks they are on to have any equity which other conference/networks like the Big 10 for example did. That then gives these companies an incentive to keep these networks alive as opposed to what happened to the Pac 12. I see this very similar to the AEW situation, if AEW wants a long term future with WBD they need to give a considerable amount of ownership to WBD so that they have an actual incentive to keep, promote and expand the company for it's own future especially after the NBA has left them.

It's interesting because early in AEW's days Tony would brag about how much money he had to keep AEW afloat. He's not doing so much of that and seems like he *really* needs a deal to make his company profitable. TNT could do a Turner Classic Movie Night to replace an AEW amd it wouldn't cost them a dime and probably do well in the ratings. People are desperate for good, non-political type of entertainment that TCM could provide.
