- For our final days of our Kimberley trip, we drove out to the creeks near Broome for sunrise. We then headed to the airport for our aerial photography flight to capture the views from above of the coast up to Derby.

The basic plan was to fly up the west side of the peninsular and then east to Derby which would take us over Pender Bay. While there were some locations we wanted to check out on our way up, we wanted to spend the majority of our time explore the coffee tones of the sand banks in Pender Bay.
I took two cameras up with me, the Nikon Z7 with the 14-30mm lens and the D850 with the 70-200mm. In the end I used the D850 more because of the height at which we were flying. I was setting both the Aperture and Shutter Speed manually. Typically the Aperture was at the widest f/4 on the Z7 and f/2.8 on the D850. Depending on the light available I had the shutter speed between 1/1250 and 1/1600 of a sec allowing for the speed the plane was travelling and the shake created by the air blowing into the plane with the windows up. I've included my camera settings with each image I share in the video.
I had the ISO set to auto, limited to the range of 64 to 500. I also had continuous shooting mode set on each camera, so I could compose up each shot and keep my finger pressed on the shutter button and the camera would fire off a series of shots. In the end I took about 1000 on the Z7 and 4000 on the D850.

Take a bow Andrew that was your finest series of videos to date, enjoyed the Tasmania series but you've excelled yourself here, ever improving, more interesting and informative stories with great B-roll and music. Bravo, love the Pano at 1:56. Cheers.
Massive thanks Craig, thanks very kind feedback mate! I enjoyed this trip as I did the Tassie trip. So glad you enjoyed the videos!
The colours and landscapes of the Kimberley’s never ceases to amaze ! Great video & photography Andrew
Great insight. Thanks mate. Resulted in some fantastic photographs too.
Thanks so much Adam, its a different world up there! ✈️
hey andrew , welcome back to youtube , i cannot wait until get new amazing video
Hey mate, I was wondering where you were. I've pumped out more video this year than I have in previous years. Where have you been? 😀
@@Andrew_marr oops i was too busy mate,i got married after 39 years of being single , i am preparing to travel to austria , i think i will get amazing landscape better than in Jordan of course .. i always here , you know my dear will never stop watching you , you are someone special
Another great video and the images were awesome
Cheers David, thanks for your comment, so pleased you enjoyed the images.
Thank you for your insights! I'm usually facing a tradeoff between flying the plane and taking pictures, obviously always keeping safetey and piloting at the highest priority, which sadly often means missing shots though.
Fantastic photos! Good to hear about the planing. It just didm´t come easy.
Thanks very much Helena, it was a great experience and I learnt a lot so I wanted to share that it the video. I can't wait to get the chance to shoot again from the copper or plane! Hope you are staying well! 😊
Thank you Andrew for the beautiful 🤩 video
Interesting chat you three mates had there. Especially the pre flight path planning was really helpful to see. I'm sure after that carefull thoughts you put in there it was quite a bummer to see the Chesna being configured totally different. No three rows, impossible to easily access both sides. So someone was always sitting outbound instead of inbound in reference to the coastline. Pilot probably had fly much more 8-figures than expected 🙂👍
Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to your next trip. Stay healthy 💪🍀👍
A very unique photographic opportunity. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Some incredibly beautiful images in there, Andrew. I must get over to the Kimberley someday. I went to Broome with Mitsubishi for the original Magna launch decades ago, and shot the Stairway to the Moon before indulging in a private dinner in Lord McAlpine’s zoo. That trip is still etched in my memory: so many amazing experiences in just 48 hours. Maybe one day I can drive over for a coffee (any excuse to cross the Nullarbor!).
Super beautiful scenery and photos, I really like the soundtrack of this video, thank you for sharing Andrew 😊
incredible images from both your drone and from the plane Andrew. The array of colours and patterns was jaw dropping.
Really interesting video Andrew. Your aerial shots are fabulous and it looks like a wonderful adventure for sure.
Beautiful images. What shutter speeds did you use? Any benefit from using a particular mode of image stabilization vs. another?
Thanks Gerry, the shutter speeds were up around 1/1200 to 1/1600, I ended up with more sharp images with the D850 than the Z7.
Very interesting to see the thoughts and planning that went into the flight, was there anything you had to change once you were up?
Really interesting this one Andrew as I went up to Broome in May so this was a retro for me, and flew to Cockatoo Island before going to Horizontal Falls as I didn’t know you could do this! I really fancy hanging out the side of a plane in a harness clipped onto anchor points using karabiners I reckon that’s the way to do it you’d be in the clear then! The Kimberley from the air is breathtaking.
Very interesting, a different perspective from other videos. Thanks Andrew
Great photos and a style of photography that's really different. How does the cost$ of the helicopter trip compare to the fixed wing flight? Many thanks.
I was out looking around on youtube and another person I subscribe to is saying to stack your drone shots to eliminate noise. Anywhere from 10-20 shots of a scene. I am assuming that you don't do that. I also haven't been either.
I know this is from a plane but you do overhead shots using your drone.
No, I don't stack my images. The sensor in the Mavic 2 Pro is a one inch with 20 Mpx, so that's pretty good. You can get professional images easily with out the need to stack the shots. I do bracket my images through using the AEB feature on the Mavic.
@@Andrew_marr I too have the Mavic 2 Pro with the Hasselblad camera. Have never stacked. My images only need ACR to edit. Makes me wonder what drone this guy has.
The person who disliked dropped their camera out of a helicopter last summer.
