Thank you for sharing your drive through the beautiful UP. I know you primarily do camping, but I for one would love to see you stay at one of those hotels you mention as you pass by it and give a review. It would be cool if they would comp you a room to do so. Enjoyed your video!

I will agree with getting gouged everywhere. Our Washington State Parks now charge about $45 a night for water and electric and maybe sewer. Often the full hookups are $50. The tacky fairgrounds in the middle of nowhere with full hookups and wifi, showers, etc. charged $20 but raised that to $30. Everybody is doing it.
I lived for 2 years on the edge of the UP in Up Nort' Wisconsin on da big lake. I enjoyed it but winters were long, there were no mountains, and utility rates were high. Oh, and the humidity for a couple of weeks was terrible. People thought I was crazy because I'd go out and soak in the lake on hot days. Grew up swimming in glacier fed lakes. Anyway, I have saved up gas money which is currently $4.32/gallon here and have a trip to West Central Oregon coming up. I try to ride my bicycle around my town to get groceries and stuff. That saves me a lot of money. Thanks for da videoing.

I agree with all of that. Also, riding a bike not only saves gas money but it also gives you a much better "feel" for a place moving a little slower. Safe travels

We've stayed at those places just not yet this year. All the CGs we scouted on Hwy 13 are federal not state so glad to hear the state ones haven't gone up. thanks!

Wander Dano, it's time do some free national forest camping. Last year I stayed at Big Lake State forest campground and it was $20. Nice spots on the lake with stinky pit toilet and garbage, but yeah, that's too much for no electric in my opinion and don't forget the Michigan pass you need to camp in them. $50/year for the pass I think.

I get what you are saying. I just bought the non resident park pass.. it's $40.

My complaining video was not something I liked doing but yeah seems searching for boondocking is something most of us need these days. all the best

I, for one, am quite happy that the majority of people find their happy place in their HOA comfort.
If the upper had the population density of the lower, it would make my happy place, less happy.
I've been boondocking in the Hiawatha NF for over a month now.
Total number of persons coming by my camp? One. Forest ranger checking Timber.
    It's good to be king...

I get what you are saying. lol keeps them out of the way in their little HOAs. :-) Ohh if it was crowded here it'd be just like everywhere else in the country where you can barely tell where you are because everything looks the same.

I’m from Long Island NY, I’m retired but my wife still works so we are limited by her days off, we would love to visit the UP but it’s a long drive. I am thinking of driving there and she will fly out and camp with me for two weeks then fly home and I will drive the van home. If I do decide to do it I’m going to rewatch all you videos from there and make some notes on places to see. If you only had 2 weeks there where would you stay and what would be the places I must see

Brooklyn born and bred here! The hardest part can be adjusting to the rural way of thinking.. in some ways it is nice tho. Flying UP here can be a bit pricey and limited dates. I think many people here fly from Green Bay or even Milwaukee.

I understand what you’re saying about politics, I’m tired of hearing them all lying about everything, I watch your stuff for camping not for laughing at Biden falling, doesn’t matter anyway we can’t do anything about how they piss away all our money, one thing I have learned is left or right they sure know how to spend our money. When I go camping I just want to spend time with nature not idiot Biden

    • @WanderDano
      @WanderDano  4 месяца назад +1

Yeah yeah I get that I don't do videos of Biden stuff or the convicted felon running against him. As I said I do this channel for fun and have ZERO interest in anyone's political beliefs. Even mentioning red or blue makes otherwise friendly people not want to even speak.

Everything has gotten more expensive. Even the state campgrounds are raising their rates. And I'm definitely making my own for more than I'm getting prepared meals or going to restaurants. Also, thanks for the demonstration of why I prefer to navigate by maps rather than GPS. If I use GPS at all, it is for terminal guidance only, once I'm off the freeway and trying to navigate the backroads to destination, or it's too dark to quickly glance at the map. I try to get parked up before it gets that dark though, but the best laid plans do sometimes go off the rails. The way my body reacts to caffeine these days makes me glad I have a toilet in my van. I notice that large vehicles like trucks and vans seem to make people anxious to pass, because they can't see the road ahead as well. FUN FACT: I have a cuckoo whistle, and I will use that on my videos to bleep swearing when I edit.

I really try not to complain too much and try harder not to do it in videos but these price gouging days are making that difficult. lol Yeah restaurants are crazy too even the fast "food" places are nuts! So glad I have the benefit of an awesome cook! lol Seems like more research into boondocking places is going to be a priority. all the best

I will be heading for the U.P. mid September and I hope the bug season will be over. I have stayed at that casino's parking lot campground a few times over the years but cant remember what I paid. I plan on heading west and going up to Grand Marais MN. and hit the Gunflint area. I love to boondock!

Always a GREAT time for the Yoop! lol The Kewadin casino in Christmas just started charging in the last 2 or 3 years. In the past I gambled or got food in there so I showed my appreciation.. I'm just not will to pay a campground price for a parking lot and literally a foot from other RVs. That shows my point, we all know that when it was free it still brought money into their casino but they want more and more.
