I always run my new jeans through the wash inside out with just vinegar. It sets the color. Subsequently I always wash jeans inside out with detergent and vinegar. Really helps lock in the dye. I still wouldn’t carry my light color bags if they might rub on my jeans. Great vid and thank you!
Cute Chanel bag 😍 I used to work for LV, and people would wreck their light colored bags, then say it’s the fabric’s fault, even after explaining to them, do not wear this against jeans! 🤦🏻♀️

I just wanted to point out that if you go to the 01:23 minute of your video you can see that the left side of the bag's flap it's a lot longer than the right and it covers up the leather pattern and doesn't let the continuity of the patter flow right. This may not be an issue for you but for the money you invested in the bag, it may be.

Sophie, you’re right on time with this video! I’ve been thinking real hard about a white handbag. My worry was color transfer. I’ve seen white and lite colored patent leather handbags destroyed by color transfer. I decided to settle for a bone creme color handbag instead. My SA found a round, small creme color Gucci Marmont for me and since it was just $900, I purchased it over the phone with her yesterday. I’m going to let this small Gucci be my guinea pig tester of how well I do with a white color handbag. Lol! If I destroy it, I won’t be too upset since it was just $900. But I’m going to try and take care of it. If no color transfer occurs after about 6 months and everything is going well, I may then get a large white leather handbag. So we’ll see. I will say that it’s not as many fashionable & sharp white handbags as it is colors. It’s not a lot to choose from when it comes to white.

You should think about exploring the Japanese secondhand market. They take it quite seriously over there and have all sorts of shops selling preloved designer items, with a strict authenticity process. It’s not uncommon to find women who get bored of their Chanel bags and go into one of these shops to get something else. You can even buy online so that’s a plus!

Less than two years ago I would not even consider a white bag. Then I fell head over heels in love last year with the Chanel Ccco handle from the 19K collection, and decided to take the chance. I love it! And last month I bought another white bag, a 21S iridescent white mini. I am very careful, and cognizant of the risks, but so far my Coco handle is still in perfect condition. I have not had the chance to wear the new white mini yet, but hope to this week. They are such amazing beauties that I feel they are worth getting 😊

I love white bags and had a few of them. I think color transfer depends on the quality of the clothes you are wearing as well as the bags. I do not know if the quality has changed but there seems to be a big problem now. I am older but I do not remember having a big problem in the '60s and ' 70's bags.

Perfect timing! I bought a Chanel beige clair 4 months ago (Dec) & last week bought a white cardholder for it, but have been curious if certain fabrics dont transfer color, such as silk, cashmere, etc or just to buy higher quality clothing. I know some people spray their denim to prevent transfer but I'm still skeptical.

Really good advice Sophie , if you love light color bags don't be afraid to buy and wear them, they are beautiful and compliments a lot of outfits. Like every expensive bag you have to take care of them no matter the color .P.S the white chanel bag is gorgeous ❤

Have you thought about sneaker protection products? Like the liquid repellent & cleaner etc, they’re designed for different types of leathers / canvases / suedes on sneakers which tend to be delicate and get dye transfer from pants. They work great, so don’t see why they wouldn’t work for leather bags too
I’ve used the foam cleaner on my white bag in the past and it worked beautifully! Wasn’t harsh at all.
Hi Sophie, I heard there are "luxury bag doctors" who specialize in re-painting or fixing and restoring well used bags (The Handbag Clinic for example, their videos are so nice and calming lol).

Hello my love! I know what you mean, to wear a whole white outfit (not so much a dress, but top and trousers) I wouldn’t feel comfortable in 😅 but I’ve noticed that not all dark clothing transfers, so I dodge jeans and go with nice trousers etc. Happy Easter my friend!! 🐣

Lovely video! I have another tip: My white Chloe Marcie is turning 10 this year and there is only a hue of colour transfer at the back. Whenever I notice some, I go over it with a super soft rubber (eraser for the americans here :)) But I don't know if I would recommend it for very delicate leather... the Marcie leather imo is pretty indestructible, yet it is softer than chanel caviar leather for comparison

One of my beige Gucci bags has color transfer from wearing dark rinse jeans. I'm super careful now. I actually like how the handles on LV bags get darker with age. That Prada tote is adorable! 😎

I love that Chanel have revamped a classic bag by adding the top handle! But doesn't it bother you that the flap is uneven?? You pay a lot for a Chanel bag and the quilting isn't even lining up/pattern matched - the left side of the flap comes down more than the right. I know that these bags are in high demand, but as consumers, are we really willing to spend all that money and then just accept quality like this?

I really religiously try to go with a completely white outfits or almost white outfits when I want to walk with a bag like that. It’s maybe to much for other people but after I ruined the backside of a perfectly fine bag with my shitty jeans, I go that route. Maybe extrem but really save I guess

Thnx Sophie! I find the magic eraser a great hack when you accidentally get dye on your leather bags. Also I always spray EVERYTHING with Colonil Carbon Protect. Vachetta, lambskin, works like a charm!
Great informative video. I’ve been wanting ysl white camera bag since last summer but since we didn’t travel and go anywhere, I didn’t buy it. Was recently reviewing what’s new on ysl and saw same white puffer bag which is really lovely. And I’m less afraid to own white designer bag as well now. Had accident years ago where I bought MK wristlet and was so proud of it. The first night I wore it with some cheap dress it got all ruined 🙈

Does this also work on white bags? Did you ever tried it on white leather? And was that untreated or treated leather? I know that patina instantly darkens so I'm afraid it will turn my white bags yellow

I have a white Gucci marmont bag that kind of turned yellow at some regions and I don’t know why. I always keep it wrapped in its sleeve and I don’t use it really often. Any ideas why this could have happened and if I can save the bag?

I have the ysl loulou bag in small in their white vintage and I tested it on black faux leather jacket if it will transfer and it didn’t so I used it with that but after my use I decided to check it, the color did not transferred on the leather but on the threads 🧵, that is something to think to as well. I tried to removed it but it didn’t happen it just faded a little..
I literally JUST bought a white bag. Extremely bright white one too, the Jacquemus Le Grand Chiquito. So this helps!

Hi Sophie 🤗I always see your videos and today I watched this one in particular because unfortunately I have stained my Vuitton Speedy By The Pool. I am always very attentive to my bags, I take care of them so much that they always look new but I bought a jacket (which I will cut into a thousand pieces) that has stained the canvas. I tried to remove it with Huggies wipes, with a luxury leather cleaner product, with Chanteclair soap… I also tried with a two-phase make-up remover but nothing… I'm desperate. The thing I struggle with the most with designer is I want classic items but I also want limited addition and a college student on a budget like me I always play it safe and go with classic. The Dior Caro strongly reminds me of the Miss Dior or even the Dior New Lock bag (which is my all time favourite!). I am not keen on the embossed 30 Montaigne in the back of the Caro and the bright gold hardware. Do you know whether there is a silver hardware option, too?
First. Not a white bag fan at all. But I do like lights colours so like the rescue bits are good. I use renapur leather cleaner on my bags.

I'm afraid to by a light color any leather especially patent leather because it turns yellow in many cases. I had a Kate Spade black and white patent clutch and it became a black and creamish clutch. Also, I had an adorable Coach mini bag years ago in off white patent and it had yellow patches afte a few years. With that being said, all of my high end luxury bags accept for a Chloe Marcie in Cloudy blue are dark. I guard that Chloe with my life. It's rather annoying. Any advice on patent leather??
