Trying this with Windows 10 (and having got the Prolific to register with a driver) unfortunately with MEGAFILE60 or just Floppy I can set up PCSLAVE no problem with 9600 and STMASTER.PRG sets up fine. When I try to launch/open the Z drive busy bee appears and hangs. Guessing something is wrong with the cable or maybe RS232 jack on the back of the MEGAST2. Hmmm...
It could be the baud rate on your ST. You can use XControl to adjust RS232 settings on the ST and match the 9600 rate on your PC. If that doesn’t work, I have another video that uses Z Modem / Teraterm to transfer files - might be worth a look! ruclips.net/video/ofhKCXVbu-0/видео.htmlsi=YnkjQpTF51UrxIdB
@jamesfmackenzie I wanted to but unfortunately I have 3 PCs that can use floppies. The reliable XP box 1 which I was making ST disk images threw a HECI fault on startup. So no go as likely motherboard dead. #2 (Hand me down from a friend) won't post and #3 power switch just broke when I tried 0/3... LOL So had a friend in another city copy the STMASTER but I forgot XControl. So no way to get a file onto floppy from PC. Working on the PC, will let you know. Thanks!
Thanks James, this is really helpful. I do have a question though. Can this technique be used to copy files from a PC onto a >720KB floppy disk? E.g. the 820KB or 880KB formats so frequently seen in games. This is, to my knowledge, impossible to write on a standard PC floppy drive. I ask because I have some damaged old games and applications that I would like to run on a real ST again, but no ability to do so.
You can create >720kB floppies on the PC using some software called Makedisk. See this article where I write a 902kB disk: www.jamesfmackenzie.com/2015/09/22/use-your-pc-to-create-a-bootable-atari-st-game-disk/
But to answer your question, yes this is possible on the ST too. You can copy an .MSA or .ST file over and then use Magic Shadow Archiver or JAY MSA to write it to a physical floppy. Hope that helps!
Brilliant, James, thanks. I will try both techniques! Cheeky related question, seeing as you're sure to know: I have about a hundred disks full of Deluxe Paint stuff I made when I was young. What is the best way or archiving them away from an ST machine? Can I make my own archives of them on a PC?
rymixxx the ghostlink partition (Z: in this video) is writeable, so you can just drag the deluxe paint files from the ST floppy to Z: to back them up to the PC. If you need them back on ST just do the reverse. Hope that helps!
I have problem. Ghostlink work fine but when i use ATARI MEGAFILE 60 this metod dosnt work :( i want copy files from pc to hard drive in mega file unit.
Piotr Chmara are you able to transfer a file from your ghostlink drive to floppy OK? What error do you see when trying to copy to the megafile? Is the megafile in otherwise good working order? My megafile is getting a little unreliable nowadays!
I'm not a Atari ST user, but I like this harware [it's crazy only with short-names] But I have a quiestion. Your tutorial is so nice i complete, You have a skil, and your computer C: drive have 'Localdisk' name ? How You can ? :)
michal brzozowiec thanks for the kind words Michael. In modern versions of Windows you can just right click and select Rename on any drive. That’s how I changed it
@@jamesfmackenzie Hi. You don't understood me. I know how we can change a name of partition, even You can just press F2 to rename [whoa!] but question was: WHY YOU DIDN'T CHANGE name of your partition like System , Windows, etc.

Why is my Atari 520st only showing Desktop Inf... Under the Desk menu and no modem listed?
Did you copy across the control panel accessory at 04:25?
