But listen man, you just gotta crunch the numbers on the smoke and really all you need to do is calculate the airspeed velocity and the amount of photon clusters in the immediate micro-area and divide by (of course) the number of hex diagonals and boom, you'll know exactly where the smoke is going. It's not any more complicated than that.
The old Corn Cob Pipe brings back memories. My dad bought me one when I was a little kid after the movie Popeye came out. I took it to preschool and all the other kids liked it so much he had to go buy some for all my friends. I accept your challenge. I can actually predict the direction of smoke from a campfire. It travels exactly towards the direction of wherever I decide to sit. Gotta play musical chairs/logs every freaking time. Worth it though

Im currently recovering from double knee replacement surgery here in Texas and enjoy watch camping videos until I can get back out to do my own camping. I have a tip for you with your tarp. You need a 25 foot paracord hank tied to the center point of it to lift when need for extra room underneath. When packing the tarp up just leave the paracord tied to that point because you will need it again next use. That way you will always have it there and not have to look for some when setting up.

Today I went and bought a 5th of Monkey Shoulder. It is quite delightful. I bought a 5th of Rumple Minze too. Monkey Shoulder is good with a Buckeye cookie. Maybe see ya in the Allegheny National Forrest sometime.
Hi Dan! That Monkey Shoulder is pretty good for the price point in my opinion. I definitely don't mind some Rumple Minze once in a while either. Originally Kevin and I were planning to go to Allegheny, but it worked out better for us to do SE NY state. I still plan to do a road trip out to Allegheny at some point for like a week and do a bunch of overnight trips to some locations.

Gear Question: Are the folding hand saws like the one you used here safe enough? Are there safety gloves for using it? You look to being very careful when using it every time.
Hi Nancy, great question! They are just as safe/unsafe as any hand saw. But part of the reason I’m so careful is because it’s fairly easy to break the blade. But the fragility is a trade off because this type of saw flies through wood. It’s used by a ton RUclipsrs.

I still have the Snugpack, in fact they accidentally sent me two of them. But they only have a max temp rating of 40F, so I'm waiting for some warmer weather to use it. I've definitely got some stealth camps in mind with that thing and a tarp. And dude that Gold Armour tarp is the bomb. I still remember that gear video you posted where I got the idea to buy those so thanks for that bud.

@@CampingwithSamBananas not much experience with down myself, outside of the bedroom, but from what I've heard, don't get it wet! That's why I rock wool. Worth the money and the weight.
If you build a stone fire place with a high back wall, it will take away the smoke. Perhaps stones may not be available where you are. How do you leave no trace ? You leave timber with saw marks etc. Just saying. Cheers
That’s correct, stones are not readily available in this woodland, but I’d love to build a stone fireplace at some point. I use only dead wood for my shelters and fires. The fire pits I make are from soaked, punky wood that is already starting to biodegrade. I don’t think it’s an issue to leave timber with saw marks in it. Eventually it will disintegrate into nothing. I think the bigger issue is the people who leave actual garbage in the woods. Shotgun shells, beer cans, discarded paracord, glass. Almost every time I camp I take someone else’s garbage out with me.

Its easy to make smoke go where you want it. A Chimney rock. Place a tall rock in the fires edge. Smoke will track to it. Tourist

Gear Question: Are the folding hand saws like the one you used here safe enough? Are there safety gloves for using it? You look to being very careful when using it every time.
Hi Nancy, great question! They are just as safe/unsafe as any hand saw. But part of the reason I’m so careful is because it’s fairly easy to break the blade. But the fragility is a trade off because this type of saw flies through wood. It’s used by a ton RUclipsrs.

I still have the Snugpack, in fact they accidentally sent me two of them. But they only have a max temp rating of 40F, so I'm waiting for some warmer weather to use it. I've definitely got some stealth camps in mind with that thing and a tarp. And dude that Gold Armour tarp is the bomb. I still remember that gear video you posted where I got the idea to buy those so thanks for that bud.

If you build a stone fire place with a high back wall, it will take away the smoke. Perhaps stones may not be available where you are. How do you leave no trace ? You leave timber with saw marks etc. Just saying. Cheers
That’s correct, stones are not readily available in this woodland, but I’d love to build a stone fireplace at some point. I use only dead wood for my shelters and fires. The fire pits I make are from soaked, punky wood that is already starting to biodegrade. I don’t think it’s an issue to leave timber with saw marks in it. Eventually it will disintegrate into nothing. I think the bigger issue is the people who leave actual garbage in the woods. Shotgun shells, beer cans, discarded paracord, glass. Almost every time I camp I take someone else’s garbage out with me.
