  • NEW Website Launch! It is with great pleasure that I warmly welcome you to visit my brand new revamped website maximvengerov.com.
Released as part of the launch is this FULL masterclass with Brett Yang of TwoSet Violin on Ysaÿe's Ballade. New concert videos to follow tomorrow as well. All these and more now available on my website!
Brett Yang has made a formidable reputation for himself as part of TwoSet Violin. Along with Eddy Chen, their highly amusing videos have become a phenomenon on social media, with over 1.5 billion (!) views and 8 million followers who observe their often painfully true and funny exploits as classical musicians exposed to the real world.
Despite their comedic talent, they remain first and foremost serious musicians.
Brett began his studies in Queensland, Australia and quickly became concertmaster of the Australian Youth Orchestra as well as the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony. One of his highlight performances was at the 2014 G20 Summit in the presence of Obama, Merkel, Rousseff, Abe and other world leaders. He made his debut performing the Tchaikovsky violin concerto in 2012 with the Queensland Conservatorium Orchestra and later performed Mozart's Concerto No. 4 with Corda Spiritus. Since then he has worked professionally as a violinist in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. As a 2013 honours graduate at the Queensland Conservatorium, he was awarded the prestigious Brisbane Club Scholarship.
Today, I will have the pleasure of hearing him play and exchanging on Ysaÿe's marvellous Ballade.

But since I follow two set (only recently), i've listened to it so much more, learned so much more, even bought myself a beginner book for piano and start next week!! And will attend a concert from Hilary Hahn next week, so excited! I still feel like such a noob, but you got to start somewhere right. They inspire so many people and i hope they continue to do so in the future. I will certainly try to do my part. I’ve studied music for 40 years. And the thing that is always the most important is the feel. Anyone can learn technique if you practice enough. Anything is playable as a mentor of mine used to say.
I’m not talented. I just tried hard.
But you can immediately tell when someone ‘ plays’ a piece and someone else makes it ‘ music’.
And this for me took decades.
The young man is wonderful, really good. And it’s so amazing to see Maxim teach him to make it musical.
    God I love music.

wow, Vengerov has a story, a picture for every musical phrase! and I'm happy because it matches my story a little!! but his visions, his expressions are so clear, so natural, it's like I'm really there, lost and directionless with him. this piece for in my opinion is a tale, of desperation, trying ti find your way out, for me it would be out of my own head. the questions you ask, the answers you can't find, a whole jumble of emotions a spiral. and I see colors too! I see, a blend of deep reds and, blue and purple. like a sea really. it's very dark too. idk where I'm going with this, but that is how this piece makes me feel. so beautiful. this piece represents hitting rock bottom. when you can't do anymore, you don't want to go on, but something inside you tells you to keep pushing and so you struggle tirelessly. I'd love to to learn Ysayë's Ballade one day!😆

This is the best masterclass I have ever seen, I have lost count of how many times I have watched it and I'm not even a violinist. How you break down the music, the interpretation, the phrasing, the harmony, its just magnificent and gives one so much more insight into the music. Thank you!

MV is an unbelievably good teacher. I love how he uses imagery and metaphors in his teaching.

Thank you Mr Vengerov I loved this class. i really liked how you drew out some necessary technical aspects, but always emphasised above all the story within the music, and how you shared your vision of this with Brett and us. I really felt that you opened for Brett a pathway for deeper connection with this piece and like you i was "bravo" and "nailed it" and clapping at the end with Brett's expression, which did feel, as you said, personal, as if he had written it himself.
Brett I am in awe of anyone doing a masterclass, and while I'm sure you've done them before, doing it on YT !....but, as a viewer i got so much out of this too, and i'm not even a musician; this piece was unknown to me, i dont know the composer either, but his masterclass really helped me engage with this music and i was surprised how fascinating I found it. That middle section OMG (Mr V said it's about pain) was just like re-enacting one of my migraines coming on, it actually made me feel a bit queasy.... then the final section in contrast is so liberating. So engaging. All up, this has been a must-watch 75 minutes. Thank you both.

Twoset made me love classical music and I started taking violin lessons 7 months ago at 23 years old. This masterclass really gives me a level to strive for. I was absolutely amazed by your musicality and how you shared your understandings of the music. I really think this video will help figure out some tips to play the violin better even if I cannot play big pieces for the moment.

TwoSet first rekindled my desire to pick up my old violin, then introduced me to a bunch of soloists and orchestras which in turn remind me to watch TwoSet, which also make me watch other content that makes me watch more TwoSet. It’s a formidable combination. I learned of Vengerov through their videos, and really like his energy and guidance.

I hope once we will heard music made by Maxim as composer. His music understanding is unique, he like music as a little kid but understand it like a professor.

I loved this masterclass! Super educational and stunning performances from both! Twoset got me into classical music and that's why I'm playing the violin now for more than 2 years already. One day in the far future I want to learn the ysaye ballad too! And maybe there's even a new recording of your performance to listen to out then 😍
