You saved my life! Polish Łucznik 884 is a copy of this Singer model and I had 0 idea of how to use it. Now it works perfectly, but if it wasn't for you - I'd just have some more trash in my room. Thank you so much!
Hi, I found a machine singer Stylist 834 in the recycling on the street and it works! I am very happy to have found your video because I did not know how to put it. Thank you so much for your explanations.
The man has a lot of patience!! Way to go Joe!! My mother always got pissed off when I screwed hers up. Was brought up in a family that if you want it done, do it yourself!
Thanks, again, and again. I use the machine so infrequently that I keep forgetting how to do certain things. If it wasn’t for you I would be lost. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you! I bought this machine about 3 years ago. It was threaded when I bought it but when I went to change threads I couldn't figure it out. I have tried off and on to figure it out, looked online for help and couldn't find any. I decided to try again and stumbled upon your video. I FINALLY have a working machine again. Thank you!
I have 4 machines at home, two of them are Singer Stylist Stylist and Predom - Łucznik 834, Singer 518 and Singer Stylist 814. These are great machines - they can not be torn. All of these machines were installed in Poland under a license agreement. Best wishes! :)
SO MUCH HELP THANK YOU!!!! I just got my grandma's old sewing machine for a "birthday" present. I've worked with sewing machines before, but never this kind, and not in a couple years. I had to look up about 14 tutorials before I found yours.
I have almost the same sewing machine model 1022 I bought in 1992 in a Singer store in Steinway, NY...Few weeks ago or 28 years later I dusted off the case and opened it I was not so sure how to thread it on the tension area...Thanks a million!
Thank you for posting this video I have a Stylist 514 that I pull out of mothballs every so often to keep it working and this video was easy to follow.
Thank you!!! I have my mom's sewing machine and I've been having trouble with the tension. My mom is no longer with me to show me how to properly thread it. I studied the manual, which she still had but didn't quite get the threading of the tension disc. Problem solved with your help. Now I can sew the quilt for my son's wedding. 😁
Omg thank you I've tried at least a dozen times to thread my grandpa's old sweing machine right 😅😅,,,, for anyone curious this method also works on the Tailor flat-bed model 934 !
I just received the 833, a very similar model. I checked this because of the similarity. When I got it, it was already threaded and worked fine but now the bobbin is looping like crazy. I was hoping this video would reveal my mistake but it’s exactly as I’d done. I’m at a loss.
I have a Taylor professional that looks just like this machine, and I also have a Nelco that looks just like my taylor which looks just like my singer. I've got the suspicious feeling one manufacturer is making a lot of sewing machines for different people that just slap their name on it. Thanks for the video
Thanks. This threads the same as my 1022 and I forgot how to thread it or never knew. I've had trouble with thread bunching under fabric but I think I was doing it right. Thanks again.
Thanks for this video. The diagrams in my instruction manual for the Singer 833 I inherited were about as clear as cheese, but it's set up pretty much the same way as this one. You cleared up some essential set-up steps I was struggling with.
Omg thank you soooooo much… my mom passed down my Gma singer machine from when she made clothes so I have a stylist 6548 lol right.. but this helped me re thread and stuff thank u
I have this exact same model, and was wondering if you had any idea when I use the flex stitch (red patterns) it sews in reverse. Thanks for any suggestions as to where to start correct that
This was very helpful....by chance do you know how to oil the machine? I took mine out and it hasn't been used in 20years....think it might need a wee bit of oil....LOL
I have the 833 version very upset I tried to emulate you got it setup halfway mashed foot pedal the needle wasn't pulling the string idk what I did wrong
Thanks for the video I just picked one of these machines up for 8 bucks and wondering if I need to watch out for anything as far as breaking or anything and what size needle to use thanks
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I've just got my machine out and tried to put in a bobbin from my collection and none fit. Do you know what type fits? So far my research says that a class 66 should fit.
Take it to a repair shop. They are really complicated to fix yourself. I had this one fixed after the needle went crooked and jammed, cost $100 for repair with a general service too because it's an older machine.
I cam across your video while searching for information as to why the thread on my machine keeps breaking. I've had the machine for about 12 years and at first loved it. I have the Tailor version of this and was told it is a Singer. Everything about the machine is exactly the same. Lately I have had so much trouble with the thread breaking like every 10 inches of sewing. I have checked everything and can't seem to make the correct adjustment. Not sure if you check here often but was wondering if you have any ideas.
Other than checking the quality of your thread, the size of your thread, tension, and burrs anywhere the thread touches I have no idea. I'm not that experienced with sewing machines
I have this sewing machine. My mother gave me this. But it has a problem that its thread which is in bobbin case doesnot come out by the needle. Please anyone can help me with this??
This tutorial is older but for anyone watching currently, but sure to raise the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread tension disks. When the presser foot is up the tension disks open to accept the thread properly. This info is specifically mentioned in this machine's manual on page 15 (#1). Here's a link to its Singer free online manual: www.singer.com/search/support?title=834 (Click on 834 Full Manual) Having the presser foot up before threading the tension disks (whether visible on the outside of the machine or tucked inside that aren't in view) is imperative to do for any brand or model sewing machine.
Always thread your sewing machine with the pressure foot up!!!! Otherwise, you will get loops of thread on the back when you sew. Having the presser foot up opens the the guides on the needle-thread tension disks you wind the thread around and makes the tension correct.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy! I was hemming my wife's pants. She's good with a scalpel and suture, not machines. The last time I used this machine was over 2 years ago and I jammed and broke it then I had to get it repaired.
Joe Malovich a friend of mine said "any self respecting modern homesteader knows how to sew" haha these machines are easy to jam. I must jam mine every 10min.
My needle keeps going into the needle plate and snapping and I have no idea why 😭 have you ever experienced this? I was given it second hand so I'm not sure what to do.
Mine had a gear go bad on the bottom so nothing below would work, I had to replace the gear. amzn.to/3xQ4h2C Timing is critical but I don't remember well enough to explain how I did it. It could also be the needle alignment which I have not messed with and can't help with.
Thanks for trying to help us beginners out BUT with all the camera shaking...out of focus and rushing through it with bad editing...shaking it was too much to watch and learn.
There is an arm sticking out to the right of the needle . Twist it toward yourself to loosen until the needle comes out. Replace and tighten. I hope this helps!
Thank you so much for this - I was gifted this model from a friend’s grandmother, and as a beginning (machine) sewer, I was befuddled!
Mom bought me that one new for Christmas in 1979. Best Christmas gift I ever got. It still works great.
You saved my life! Polish Łucznik 884 is a copy of this Singer model and I had 0 idea of how to use it. Now it works perfectly, but if it wasn't for you - I'd just have some more trash in my room. Thank you so much!
I have that copy too :)
Oooo I’m trying to purchase that too, so I’m so happy to find an English review!
I had a hard time finding help, too, because mine just says JC Penny. No other brand info

This was extremely helpful!! Thank you!!
Thank you for this. The feed is not moving at all on my SINGER Stylist 834. Any idea what I can do to fix it?
Take it to a repair shop. They are really complicated to fix yourself. I had this one fixed after the needle went crooked and jammed, cost $100 for repair with a general service too because it's an older machine.
Thank you, didn't know where the reverse button was
THANK YOU this helped us so much!!!!!
Does anyone know what bobbin this machine takes and if its comparable with the tailor 834. Thanks
Thanks, that was beautiful!

Always thread your sewing machine with the pressure foot up!!!! Otherwise, you will get loops of thread on the back when you sew. Having the presser foot up opens the the guides on the needle-thread tension disks you wind the thread around and makes the tension correct.
I am actually sitting at my sewing machine right now. Making a footprint for my backpacking tent.

Thank you so much i was struggling
Very helpful video thank you
Thankyouthankyouthankyou. You just saved me a bunch of time.
Alicia ThatThing you're welcome :)
My needle is banging something when I hand turn the wheel to catch the bobbin thread. What is that? the needle does not go down?
Check for a bent needle or clogged up thread around the bobbin, failing that you might need to have a professional look at it.
@@JoeMalovich Thank you so much and I fixed thanks to your great video
Hi..I have this machine.while I was stitching, the feed dog stopped moving fabric..can someone explain why ??
Have you figured out why? I just got this machine and the feed doesn't move either. I'll let you know if I find the answer though.
This was most helpful BUT my machine is still sewing double stitches??? can you help me???

Thanks for trying to help us beginners out BUT with all the camera shaking...out of focus and rushing through it with bad editing...shaking it was too much to watch and learn.
it's the same for a singer 833?
It also helps set up for model 518
cool, thanks for letting me know!
Can you show me how to change the needle?
There is an arm sticking out to the right of the needle . Twist it toward yourself to loosen until the needle comes out. Replace and tighten. I hope this helps!
Thank you
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
why is my singer 834 only sewing in reverse even tho reverse button is out?
I'm not a service tech but your reverse button might be jammed or gummed up.
