Ubai bin Ka’ab (R A) narrated that Umar (R A) ordered him to lead Salat (Al-Taraweeh) during the nights of Ramadan; so, I led people (Sahabah and Tabi’een) in praying twenty raka’at. (Kanz Al-‘Ummal, v2, p284)
and there is another method of performing 3 rakaat witr together as well in which we dont sit in the second rakaah for tashahhud. We just sit in the final rakaat for tashahhud and durood and then dua.

First, we need to understand the meaning of the Arabic word Taraweeh. The word Taraweeh is the plural of the word Tarweeha which literally means ‘to rest’. In the context of Salat Al-Taraweeh, it means to rest between every four raka’at. (Lisan Al-Arab) Looking at this meaning we can understand that if we perform eight raka’at followed by Witr, we get only two rest periods (Tarweehatain).
Walykum assalaam, yes brother 2+2+2+2= 8 and then there are 2 methods of performing witr. One is to pray 2 rakaat seperately and then perform 1 rakaat after it. The second method is to pray all 3 at once. Watch this video insha Allah.

I just read somewhere the Taraweeh is plural form of rest in Arabic. Now plural in Arabic should be not less than three. If there only 8 raka'at then there will be only 2 rest. 20 raka'at will give us with 5 rest. Allah knows better.
Brother there is no difference between taraweeh, tahajjud or qiyaam ul layl. These are the different words used for the same prayer. brother i think u r referring to witr. The Sunnah of the witr are 1, 3 and 5 and in some narrations it says 7 and 9 as well. When we pray 3 Rakaat witr, we pray 2 complete rakaat first. And then we pray 1 rakaat seperately to make it three as this was the way of the prophet s.a.w. You can see this method in any witr salaah from makkah taraweeh.
By his own admission the hadith of 11 rakaat (8+3witr) is in the book of Tahajjud in Ramadhan. the book of taraweeh is a separate chapter. how many did Abu Bakr, Umar, Usman, Ali and the general body of the Sahabah perform, 20 Rakaats. Keep in mind zakir naik is not a mujtahid.

Till this day in mecca it is 20 raqa. Imam malik says you should pray 36 because he says it is better for you to pray the whole night while he stilled agreed and accepted 20 raqa

Imam Malik (Rahmatullah ‘Alay) says that if we come across two seemingly contradictory ahadith and if we know that Abu Bakr (R A) and ‘Umar (R A) practiced one of them and left the other, then this would be proof enough for us for its authenticity. (Al-Ta’leeq Al-Mumajjad, p43)
He just said in the book of tahajjud. Taraweeh and tahajjud different prayers.

what does a person do when he is in masjid where 20 rakats are read and then 3 rakats witr is read.because the way ahnaaf pray witr is not proved from prophet mohammad?
Brother, Taraweeh was prayed by the prophet s.a.w Himself and initiated by himself. There is no difference between taraweeh and tahajjud and the prophet s.a.w himself led the qiyaam ul layl in his life time.

Wait what... you're using ZAKIR NAIK as a source for answering a Fiqh based question? When in the world was he ever a valid scholar of the Deen? He's a Da'ee and an authorized expert on Comparative religion. He should stick to his field and refrain from answering Fiqh based questions. Knowing some ahaadith from Bukhari and Muslim doesn't warrant you the prerogative of answering such questions.

It says:”THIS IS THE THE BOOK WITH BASIC VERSES OF ESTABLISHED MEANING, FURTHER EXPLAINED IN DETAIL BY ONE WHO IS WISE AND WELL ACQUAINTED”.
IS THERE ANYBODY ELSE AUTHORISED TO EXPLAIN QURAN?NO; NOBODY EXCEPT ALLAH.

THEN WHY MOST OF OUR WOMEN FOLKS ARE GOING TO QURAN CLASSES CARRYING THE SAME QURAN IN HAND?
IS THERE ANY HUDHAVEE, MADHANEE, SHAKH, SAKHAAFEE, MULLA OR MUFTHEE WHO IS MUCH MORE E X P E R T THAN ALLAH TO EXPLAIN QURAN?
SUPPOSE A COLLEGE STUDENT DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE LECTURE OF HIS PROFESSOR, WILL HE APPROACH THE COLLEGE ATTENDER OR SWEEPER FOR DETAILED CLARIFICATIONS?
LET OUR PEOPLE READ AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND QURAN. THEN THEY NEED NOT DEPEND ON THE ABOVE 9:34, 2:78, 2:79, 2:159 & 2:174.
ALLAH SAYS QURAN IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND REMEMBER; FOUR TIMES REPEATEDLY IN SURA AL-QAMER.
STILL, IF IT IS NOT UNDERSTANDABLE, LET THEM VERIFY THEIR IQ THEMSELF BY READING 2:22, 2:23, 8:11 &72:16 AND FIND OUT WHAT IS THAT WATER ALLAH BESTOWED FROM SKY.
SURA 8:11 WILL GIVE YOU THE FOUR SUPERIOR QUALITIES OF THAT WATER.
1. It will keep you away from SHYTHANIYATH/DEVILISH ACT.
2. It will PURIFY YOU.
3. It will keep closer bond between the HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE.
4. It will provide a FIRM STAND IN YOUR OPENION AND DECISION MAKING POWER.

1. That Allah himself explained Quran(11:1). The Explenation is embedded in Quran as IN-BUILT.

2. Even Prophet is Prohibited to explain Quran (75:19).
Our society is disintegrated in to many groups, only due to our ignorant selfish religious leaders of 9:34, 2:78,2:79,2:159 & 2:174 violated the above clause 75:19 & initiated to give their own versions for Quran mixing with man made hadheeses deserting Allah's A-HASANAL HADHEESE ASIDE.

THEN:
YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF QURAN "MINAL FAJRY"
WHEN THE SUNRISE IN YOUR BRAIN.

DEVINE KNOWLEDGE WILL SHOWER UPON YOU CONTINUOUSLY HATTHAA MATHELAEL FAJIR, UNTIL YOUR BRAIN GET ENLIGHTED.

Well first of all brother your not even a proper muslim. Salafis are people who cling to the bid'at and that is worst than commiting a regular sin. All the 4 schools of ahle sunna agree and have proof of 20 raqa and 8 raqa. there is no laying.
