I've got two redfoots and freaking love them! Hands down my favorite reptiles. So much personality. My cousin breeds them and I'm afraid I'll end up as the crazy tortoise man instead of the crazy cat person
I'm buying one this week... within the next few days... I'm sooo excited. I've wanted a tortoise for a while... I finally decided on a red foot. They're gorgeous... and I love the size they get!
Hey there peeps! Just want to let ya folks know to be careful on where you get those veggies and fruits for the reptiles. It seems that these past few years the number of deaths to young tortoises are due to pesticides from the fruits/veggies. I owned a bunch of tortoises and also a beekeeper and I've lost 24 hives last year due to neonicotinoid poisoning that some idiot sprayed on his cornfield. And just 6 months ago, I've lost my 1st and oldest redfoot that was 26 years old which I got when I was just 13(he was my 1st pet). He died just 2 days after he ate an apple on which I found out later on was imported from China on which they used heavy pesticides there. I was so devastated that I actually went the trouble to spend a good amount of money and preserved his carcass and stool then send it to the University of the Philippines(I live in the Philippines btw) just to find out what happened to him. That's when they(university people) found out after a good long 2 weeks that it's some kind of pesticide they used in china that is also deadly to reptiles especially ones from the tropics.
I had a red footed tortoise and it just recently died it was 7 months old. Ever since we got it it hasn't eaten and looked healthy but was not internally. Plus we we were going to take him to the vet the day after he died
