What do they call this song? I can only find it called Weelia Wallia or The Cruel Mother and whatnot I can't hear clearly what the host calls it. I'd really like to hear a recording of the song not in an audience. :\

The Dubliners took England by storm with their smash hit 'Seven Drunken Nights', but the Clancys and Tommy M seemed to stay in America and Ireland, so they were hardly known here in England more's the pity. They did do a sellout gig at London's Royal Albert Hall but didn't seem to stick around England after that.

the clanceys though a irish to the core are technically an american band.they moved to the states early 50s to new york and intended to be actors mainly in off broadway shows in greenwich village.they were pals with other ex irish such as malachi mccourt frank of angelas ashes fames brother milo oshea and of course brendan behan.behan and jfks highly public rise to the senate kicked off a fascination in the folk bars for traditional irish music.the boys busked there for a bit but son the music became the attraction so they formed the band full time in bigger gigs.their carnegie hall concerts were abslute smash sell outs.a young hopeful called bob zimmerman hung out with them.in the folk craze of the late 50s in america they became a massive sensation.realising they needed to get back to their roots they went home in 58 to get new material .films still exist of them at both the clanceys and tommys mums cottages with all the family singing.they took zimmerman now bob dylan with them.he reworked the patriot game and brennan on the moor and other songs into singles for himself his first taste of fame.back in america the boys went from strength to strength jfks election provided them with a rare honour a two hour live tv concert at the whitehouse for the president and first lady.in 1962 their ep featuring the holy ground went no 1 in ireland and as ronnie said they toured for the first time in their country in 1963 .they were hits in the states long before europe.as an irish family we had all their records and they hit a high level of excellence mid 60s with their brilliant albums celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1916 rising.though they played in the uk and did the top rated frost show at this time they said it wasnt their favourite venue as they often had to tone down remarks or change songs to avoid offending the brits! a sorta watered down clancys said liam! rather than extended tours they did one off prestige concerts like the albert hall which they figured were for the real fans so could sing or say what they liked.tommy makem and tom clancy who still worked as an actor had homes in the usa and liam and paddy in ireland so they did less touring concentrating on albums when they got together every so often however going back on the road to sell out audiences and as they said remind them were still here! liam clancey was called the greatest folk singer of all time by bob dylan.
