Everyone dislikes Monk, and think they are the easay mode for Rain World. Monk is not that easy. I upload Monk playthroughs to RUclips, and the story of Monk is better then Survivor's. Rain World is my first computer game away from Blender and Minecraft.
I caught a little Easter egg in the animation: when monk delivers the neuron fly and you see moon’s staticky display, the shape on the far right shows Survivor actually delivering the cloak! (Towards the middle you can also make out Hunter with the green neuron!) Edit to add: 2:51 is the time. And the shape next to Hunter might be Spearmaster, though the image is more corrupted. And bottom right corner *might* be a depiction of Gourmmand
Holy moly… A lot of people usually portray Monk as this smol timid child that would never hurt anyone. This happy and friendly child travelled into a hellish world for their sibling and took the side quest of making a robotic lady they hadn’t even known about before happier.
I adore the part where from moons point of view after Monk give her the neuron fly we can see the other scugs. Spearmaster when moon started malfuctioning due to the lack of water. Hunter with the green neuron (also carrying a slugpup.) I believe the gourmand is shown in the bottom right. Then there is survivor giving moon her cloak, which is something I did during my playthrough. died a lot, cried a lot, but it was worth it in the end.
there is not a single frame where monk doesn’t look extremely silly. this is a good thing since silly little guy is monks natural state of being. anyway only FIFTY VIEWS ?? FOR THIS MASTERPIECE ?? HWUH ??
I LOVE the details at 2:51 you can see Spearmaster meeting up with Moon before her collapse, you can see Hunter reviving Moon with the green neuron and what I think is a scugpup, you can see survivor give her the dress, and you can see gourmand in the corner with what looks like the crafting recipe for a lantern. It's a small touch but it breathes so much life into this scene for me, amazing work!
This is such a lovely pmv. Monk is a very underrated character and I think you capture his essence perfectly. I was surprised to see you use the ascension ending as well. A lot of people forgo it in favor of Downpour's alternative. Personally, I'm glad you went with the original game's ending. There's a kind of personal journey that you can't replace with it.
I would disagree because it's... Not what either Monk nor Survivor truly wants; they don't wish to cease existing, I doubt this would change even after their understandings and revelations from Moon and Pebbles... They want to be reunited- With each other, with their family... There's a lot of emotion on either side, but Ascension seems a little hollow, in my opinion; this is because it's... Likely only really showing what the individual who is ascending wants most in that moment; for Survivor, it was reuniting with the colony... For Monk? It was finding Survivor safe and alive... Ascension is what the Ancients wanted, but that does not necessarily mean it is the ONLY way; in fact, most creatures seem pretty content to just... Be. There's a journey, either way, and both outcomes are bittersweet to an extent... But, as I said, I feel like the original ending is much more on the bitter side of that. But, to each their own! :D At least we can both agree that this vid was a BEAUTIFUL animation

The highest enlightenment of them all. The way I see it, in basegame, by letting go of connection to others, Monk and Survivor are able to find self-fulfillment, and beautifully find one another, as monks ending suggests they are directly connected, rather than separate dreams. And as much as rain world is a story about family, it’s mainly about a journey of enlightenment, in which ascension is the natural culmination of. To me, actually the OE tree ending rings more hollow, because it doesn’t encapsulate the scope of everything they have experienced on their journeys. It’s like getting a glimpse beyond the veil, learning more about the truth and reality to existence and seeking *more*. That’s why OE ending isn’t as satisfying to me personally

To share the gift rather than to simply leave others to suffer; although I suppose that's inherently part of 'letting go', at the same time... Idk. I feel like the scope is not lost in the OE tree ending because... You can see how far they've come; Survi with their new pups, and Monk having grown up more both physically and mentally... They've grown in ways that cannot be understated, and could use that knowledge for better lives; for themselves, or for others, and then seek out the further enlightenment when... They're actually done in the world, when they've no more stories to tell or the torch has been passed to enough others that they're not just... I love this actually. This is the one Monk focused thing where they aren't potrayed as just a scared little baby, when thats far from what Monk is. They are a chill, genuinely kind hearted guy thats willing to go out of their way to help others, even if they barely know them. They have genuine care and respect for the creatures around it, but their still willing to kill if they absolutely have to. Hell, they literally jumped into a huge deadly torrent for their sibling, even if it was more realistic that they had already died. And even through all of the hardships and near drowning and death they have to go through, they still pushed through it. I'd argue that the lil banana is arguably the toughest of all the slugcats.

LOVED how you depicted monk in this 🙏 so much expression on their face and you can genuinely see so much personality in them. OH MY GOD. where do I even start?? The depiction of monk is phenomenal, just a kid trying their best to survive and help others. The scavenger scene was amazing, I adore the way you drew them reasoning with monk and befriending them. All of the iterator scenes were also fantastically made, I like how it felt like we were the slugcat as well, deciphering what Moon needed. I also love how pebbles was depicted as just a guy trying to help, which is what he is in reality as opposed to the angry fan made personality he usually has. And most of all, the art. Oh my god, the art. The shading and backgrounds were OUTSTANDING, I love how shiny everything was. Actual GOLD. Amazing job :)

Honestly one of the most adorable Rain World Animations I have seen since diving headfirst into the wormhole of Cute Rain world Animations. Also, when I showed it to my sister, she just started laughing because the design of survivor made it look like it had an emo hairstyle.

This made me genuinely tear up. The emotions are expressed so well, Monk's initial fright, the grief in Moon's tired posture, the determination, the drive to reconnect with a lost, fallen sibling even through terror, on both sides. It got to me. Amazing work.

No longer is monk something curiously exploring the world but something seeking ascention. But they also really struggle to let go of the things they care about. Balance. This just captures,, life, so well for monk. Brining pearls and neurons to moon, befriending scavengers,experiencing death and the shock that comes with it, braving through it to help moon, searching for their sibling aimlessly in the process, god this just encapsulates monk so well AUGH Not to mention the really pretty art too I can imagine this took a while to make and allot of emotion went into it (and its definitely noticeable). This made me genuinely tear up. The emotions are expressed so well, Monk's initial fright, the grief in Moon's tired posture, the determination, the drive to reconnect with a lost, fallen sibling even through terror, on both sides. It got to me. Amazing work.

ok um emotions aside THIS IS SO COOL!!! Love the fact that this captures the horror of knowledge the mark bestows all at once. No longer is monk something curiously exploring the world but something seeking ascention. But they also really struggle to let go of the things they care about. Balance.
This just captures,, life, so well for monk. Brining pearls and neurons to moon, befriending scavengers,experiencing death and the shock that comes with it, braving through it to help moon, searching for their sibling aimlessly in the process, god this just encapsulates monk so well AUGH
Not to mention the really pretty art too
