Ernesto Hoost is pronounced as HOST, not "Hoost". So HOOST sounds like TOAST or ghost, most or roast. In Nederlands (Dutch) a double O is pronounced as a LONG O. To get the sound of "boost" or "roost" you add an E after the O. (voet = foot and voetbal = football) I am telling you this as I have been mega annoyed at "professionals" messing up Ernesto's name. GET IT RIGHT!!!

    • @TheModernMartialArtist
      @TheModernMartialArtist  3 года назад +1

@@receptieletoile7595 Yes I know, but since the announcers and commentators pronounced it oo for so long and since he never complained when interviewers said it with the oo I figured it was easier to go with the more well known variation and also that he didn't care about it.

His low kick is a signature style form the gym he trained at . Vos gym in Amsterdam. All fighters that came out of that gym in the 1990 /99 era had this style trained into you day in day out and it was a matter of pride of how hard your lower legs could kick and take a kick . I was there during this period and I can still feel the bumps on my shin today

He had people messed up waiting on the 3 strikes and kick pattern with the kick and three strike pattern. The worst was when you backed away giving him room to get maximum velocity on the leg kick. I was taken to emergency two times just watching him do that..

@@m.o.5291 every fighter has his peak. I watched all the K1 fights in that era. Aerts and Hoost were the biggest pioneers in the field, being the first to apply the kickbox strategy and optimizing themselves towards other types of fighters. Bonjasky, Schilt and most of the others are 'just' 2nd gen successors.
Also: after his 4th K1 win, Hoost had some physical issues and had to cope with the loss of his brother during some crucial k1 tournaments. He had quite a losing streak in that year.

I’m from Japan and I was teenager at his prime. He was called “Mr. Perfect”
nor only by being strong.Look at his
      kicks, punches, combinations.
All his movement is so sophisticated
and it’s so much smooth & solid it can be on textbook. Thats why we called him “perfect” He was called by that name long before he start to dominate as a champion level.
I like him but not a crazy fan of him,
because of the perfection. My favorite fighter is more rough
pumped up soulful kind of guys.
And I’m not sure about this and no bad feeling about him but I think he
start using steroids at the point he suddenly got bigger and powerful.
He was skinny, tall & less power but accurate kind of fighter in his first era.
Then suddenly his body got bigger(thicker) . After that ,the weakness was gone and then start
to be a champion class contender
You know , the whole body turns big in a little weird way and think when you do PEDs right? ....Like Barry Bonds,
has changed since his younger days.

Id love to see Carlos "escopeta" Monzón, the man was very impressive, 100 fights, 87 wins, 59 by KO, 3 losses, and 9 draw (1 no contest) his style was neither flawless nor flashy, but somehow managed to destroy everybody. he never looked tough, he was quiet, thin physique, he came from extreme poberty like Duran, so much he grew with a red blood cell defiency, because of the lack of foodmthis made his bones fragile, and he will often break his hands during fights.
though he might not be flashy, I think he sets an example of force of will, and controlled agression. Def worth checking him out.
outside the ring he wasn't a good person, he drank a lot and will end up serving 11 years in prision for killing his girlfriend, he died in a car accident on his way back to prision after visiting his family.

Have you ever considered doing a video on sumo wrestling? They have extremely well developed techniques for maintaining and disrupting balance. There are lots of pushing and pulling techniques, plus non-belt-grabbing throws that are more practical than their judo counterparts due to more legal leverage targets (legs, ankles, etc.).

Besides Ernesto Hoost check Rob Kaman, Ramon Dekkers, Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjasky ,Badr Hari, Ivan Hippolyte, Gilbert Ballentine, Ryan Simson,Perry Ubeda and the list goes on. All deadly kickers! One thing was not mentioned in the video is were does he got his force from? In short and long range! It's from the hips. In the Netherlands beside good footwork and positioning we turn our hips a bit more in and ones feet should point to the ground. Check it out and study Dutch fighters and you will notice it.

He tied his hands behind his back and asked people to come up and try to hit him. About 10 got up including me we got about 30 seconds each to land a punch and out of 10, only a hand full landed who when had stood still but with little to no power as his body was always retreating then he would be on the right of left saying " bang "
The guy was fast and had amazing head movement. I remember he asked for the two-faced person in the room to stand up and fight one-handed. One fool stood in the ring but wasn't stood for long:)
