  • MARY ELISE SAROTTE IN CONVERSATION WITH IVAN VEJVODA
    SAMSTAG, 30.09. 2023 / 12h30,
AKADEMIE DER BILDENDEN KÜNSTE WIEN, AULA
An influential minority of Western politicians and academics have argued that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine was triggered by the policy of NATO expansion eastwards over the last thirty years. In her book, Not One Inch, Distinguished Professor of Historical Studies at Johns Hopkins University, MARY ELISE SAROTTE, is the first to trace the process of NATO’s enlargement. In a taut narrative, she bases her account on a meticulous review of the documentation and dozens of interviews with many of the key actors in this drama. In discussion with IWM Permanent Fellow IVAN VEJVODA, Professor Sarotte’s research will go far in answering the question whether that minority is justified in suggesting that NATO bears some responsibility for the Russo-Ukrainian war.
