Loved that guy and his music. Loved even more that he was unapologetically patriotic. He was emblematic of America. He will be so missed. RIP Big Dawg.
I've always loved The Statler Brothers. They have got to be among the most patriotic country singers ever. They wrote and sang so many great songs and a number of them reflected their faith in God and love for their country and those who serve it. Such songs 'You've Been Like A Mother To Me" , "More Than A Name On The Wall", "Nothing As Original As You", "Silver Medals and Sweet Memories", "Moments to Remember", and a bunch of others immediately come to mind. They are worth checking out. Though they retired in 2003 ( and one member passed away a few years ago), they have 40 years of music, several TV specials and a farewell concert available to listen to and watch. They also had a 7 year television variety show. I miss them but their music stays with me forever.
He was a true American patriot. I seldom cry when a celebrity dies, but I did when I heard about his death. I was lucky enough to see him at a concert in central California years ago with my son. As a military brat, I can’t even tell you how much he meant to me. His devotion to our troops was unmatched (except for maybe Bob Hope). Since I married a cowboy, that was another connection that I treasure. I take some comfort in thinking of his legacy and knowing that he’s singing to the glory of God now.
Yes, Toby was very special to a lot of people. He was down to earth and humble. And his talent was off the charts! So sad we’ll never hear anything new from him. He will be missed! 😩
I saw Toby in concert a couple times in Niagara Falls,N.Y. His shows were amazing. If you like him you will also love Hal Ketchum. He also died not long ago from cancer. His song Point of Rescue was one of his great hits. I now live in Frisco, Texas and love it here.
We lost a super talented musician and true patriot. I rarely cry over celebrity deaths, but his was an exception. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about him.
Super sad news. I loved his music. I met him several years ago at a celebrity softball game. He took time to take photos with everyone who wanted one- he was so nice.
I am 77 YO and have only ever felt a personal loss upon the death of one other artist, and that was the loss of John Denver (RIP) and now Toby Keith (RIP).
He started out working in oil fields and in band on weekends. Then, when oil went bust, he needed to make a living to support his family, married to love of his life. He was turned down flat and told he couldn't write, but another guy heard his songs after freind gave his tape to him... well, that was the beginning. He faced disappointments, and to pay the bills sometimes had to bend to record company telling him what to play... But eventually, he was successful enough to do what he wanted. I wish his writing skills could have continued for 15 more years... I'm 67, so to me, he was way too young at 62.
Toby should be in the country music hall of fame and should have been Before he died what great loss to country music and he was a patriot who would visit bases over seas and do concerts for our troops. Leaving a base after a concert he noticed the helicopter was flying sideways and when he asked why they told him they were taking small arms fire, and please don’t talk about it because it might scare other artists from going to Afghanistan to preform.
Just discovered channel. Subscribed. Can say - me, too, buddy. Toby Keith hit me also. SiriusXM channel 58 and more, had a nice weeklong tribute. Welcome to Texas and USA. Look forward to watching your American dream unfold.
My daughter is a car salesman. If you eventually start looking for a Ford F150 I can recommend her. Also, my sister is a hair stylist at La Centerra. If Tasha is in need of a stylist, let me know
Should have been a cowboy is one of favorites. Also Cowboy take me away by the Dixie Chicks. I know they went woke, but both those songs made me realize I wasted my Texas roots. I don't belong in the city
Born and raised in Katy. Back when it was a small town west of Houston. We still have the Katy Rice festival even though Katy doesn't produce rice anymore. One of my fondest childhood memories is swimming in the rice ponds
Try doing a reaction to this - Toby Keith wrote a song after his friend, Wayman Tisdale, passed away due to (ironically), cancer, 14 years ago. Wayman was a star basketball player at OU, where they met and played for 3 NBA teams. When he finished playing basketball, he became a well known jazz recording artist. He was 44 when he passed. i departed from the country music world shortly after I got out of high school in 1998.

You might look into how our troops are being treated today and help to continue his work in supporting them.

It's over 100 degrees in the summer and the rice ponds were cold. I loved it
You both were meant to be Americans.

Did Toby ever play Europe
Yes
Only singer with balls big enough to play at Trump’s inauguration.
