I chatted with a recruiter a few months ago about this. He said he was unfamiliar with the term "woke." He explained that the military is trying to be more inclusive. I argued that when you're in the business of protecting our freedoms, it is OK, in fact it is necessary to be exclusive.
If he was unfamiliar with the term woke, he must have a super low IQ or perhaps has been living under a rock for the last ten years.
Sounds like you were dealing with a true believer.
As a representative of the armed forces tasked with public interaction, I'm sure there are words and rhetoric they are restricted from using. Even writing a report 40 years ago found myself having to reword it to use proper nomenclature which would make it legal. My point is the military at least during my time of service didn't allow use of words or phrases which would be considered slang or otherwise inappropriate to a formal record. Don't worry, I don't care for what 'woke' encompasses.
Military is, by definition, exclusive. Not everyone gets in. If they did, we’d have tons of mentally ill and weak people fucking it ALL up.
i call bs on him not hearing woke. I know too many of the guys in my unit who got out all said same thing when biden came into office....first 2-3 months was a conservative purge of all the branches no joke. They even busted out the power point presentations and told soldiers to report anyone who harbored conservative viewpoints to their chain of command.....knowing what our military has mutated into under the direction of liberal extremism has led me to do everything in my power to dissuade people from joining who are thinking about joining...
Anyone who didn’t vaccinate and was kicked out needs a lawyer and a lawsuit!!!

As a NAVY veteran during the 90s, I'm seriously ashamed of the propaganda campaign, not just USN, but all branches. We serve one purpose, to put the fear and reality of death in our enemies hearts. This guy is the exact opposite, as well as the people promoting this anti-American sentiment and propaganda.

I was addicted to heroin and meth and spent 2.5 years living in my car trading off sleeping between a Walmart parking lot and behind a La Quinta. What was always so frustrating was that no one who loved me accepted me as an addict. I wanted to identify as the victim of circumstances and a broken mess, but people were so intolerant of my addiction that it led me to get help and come to Jesus. Now I'm getting my graduate degree and celebrating 4 years of living as a person who wasn't encouraged to be who I wanted to be, but as something better. Sexuality, gender, and our identity are choices that we make that impact our lives and the lives of everyone we know and love. When we let God be the one who determines who we are and when we go to Him to find love and value we begin developing a relationship that will change us for the better and teach us how to help others do the same.

I'm a US Airforce combat veteran of 9 years, including two revolutions (Marcos in the Phillipines and Contras/Sandanistas in Honduras) plus Grenada, Panama, and then Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Everyone I served with would almost certainly put "loyalty" and "integrity" at the top of their list of desired qualities in fellow military members. But "toughness" is a big one too...will the guy next to me come into the fire to get me out if I need it? Will they head TOWARD harm's way if that's what the mission is about?
And a "drag queen" who takes pride in a hyper unrealistic feminine softness just aint the one.
I served with plenty of outstanding women in uniform, so its not that.
But anyone who puts themselves out there as clearly conflicted about their most basic biological standing?
No. That's a really shaky person to rely on when things get rough.
And on that - there is no bilaterally symmetrical vertebrate mammal ANYWHERE on Earth with more than "male" and "female".

My aunt was a WWII code breaking WAC. Always thought she was the most feminine woman you’d meet, until a cougar showed up in our back yard. That military training came back quick and I got to watch the 5’ woman, wearing a house dress & pearls, using an Enfield to take down a predator threatening her homestead.

I got rejected because I had asthma so mild I didn’t know I had it (guess I wasn’t constantly getting bronchitis as a kid 🤷♂️) but it was bad enough for them to say nope in peace time.

Navy veteran and active duty Navy family member here. The good thing is is that these people are few and far between! It’s embarrassing though…it makes us look weak. Remember back in the day when drag queens used to be fun? Now they’re not.
The Navy would be well served to give bonuses to people who are currently active duty (so they don’t get out or retire), make rank easier to make, and increase pay (especially housing pay) because they don’t even come close to keeping up with inflation and housing costs. We also need a desperate change in presidential leadership because why would anyone want to join with Biden inching closer to WW3? It’s quite scary to think that Biden is the person who decides whether to drop nukes or not!
As a matter of fact, I do NOT remember any day where drag queens were fun. Please...remind me.

Little did I know that by putting on camo stick and wearing my camouflage uniform I was socially appropriating a shrub.
To be fair if I was sitting in my living room somewhere in Afghanistan or Iran and the door gets kicked in by soldiers in drag wearing wigs and lipstick I would be terrified 😂

HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED! I served in the USN during Vietnam. It was rough being a female, we were told "The USN DOES NOT make Pregnancy uniforms" If you got pregnant back then, more than 50 years ago now, you had two choices, Medical Discharge or Abortion, paid for by the US Government. That was it. No other choice. Then
the other day I saw a recruiting poster for the USN. Not only did they have pregnant women shown, they had PREGNANT MAN! YES! So okay, you can be pregnant in uniform now but A PREGNANT MAN IN UNIFORM????
I thought I'd keel right over in shock. Oh my God....I hope and pray that is NOT representative of the US Armed Services!
